Answer: Dial M for Murder

In keeping with the big fad at the time, this movie was originally released in 3D. This explains why the camera shots are often set up so that there are a lots of things between the lens and the actors. Hitchcock can be seen in the reunion picture that hangs on the wall.

2. 'Each time they kissed there was the thrill of love...the threat of murder'!

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: North by Northwest

The terrifying finale on the face of Mt. Rushmore was not actually filmed there, Hitchcock could not get permission to shoot a murder on a national monument. A replica was built for the filming, and even then care was taken to not associate the actual faces of the presidents with violence. Hitchcock can be seen in the opening credits, rushing for a bus and having the door shut in his face.

4. 'The shadow of this woman darkened their love.'

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: Strangers on a Train

Hitchcock can be seen early in the film, boarding a train while carrying a double bass fiddle. Hitchcock always claimed that the scene where the stuntman climbed under the racing carousel was the most dangerous stunt that was ever performed under his direction, and that he would never attempt anything that dangerous again. There is a wonderful exhibit based on this scene at Universal Studios in Florida.

7. 'From the master of shock! A shocking masterpiece!'

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: Rebecca

Hitchcock's appearance is near the end of the movie, walking past a phone booth where Sanders is making a call. Olivier wanted his girlfriend, Vivien Leigh, to play opposite him. When Fontaine was cast instead, Olivier was quite unpleasant to her, making her feel shy and uneasy. Since these traits were exactly what Hitchcock wanted from her character, he played on those feelings, convincing her that nobody on the set liked her very much.

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: The Man Who Knew Too Much

Hitchcock can be seen watching an acrobat in the marketplace in Morocco, just before the murder occurs. 'Que Sera, Sera' won an Oscar for Best Song, and turned out to be the biggest hit of Doris Day's career. In the murder scene, Jimmy Stewart's fingers were supposed to wipe black make-up off of the victim's face. The make-up department could not find a black covering that wiped off that easily, so they applied white paint to Stewart's fingers instead, to produce that dramatic effect. This is another of the 'Five Lost Hitchcocks'.

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: Topaz

Starring Frederick Stafford and Karin Dor.

13. (1966) 'It tears you apart with suspense!' Paul Newman and Julie Andrews starred.

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: Torn Curtain

This is not one of Hitchcock's best movies, and a lot of debate has gone on over whether or not Julie Andrews did Hitchcock any favours by agreeing to appear. She does lack the usual cool, almost frosty, aloofness of many of Hitchcock's heroines. Hitchcock can be seen early in the movie, sitting in a hotel lobby with a baby on his knee.

14. 'Only Alfred Hitchcock could have created so suspenseful a sex mystery!'

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: Marnie

Starring Sean Connery and Tippi Hedren.

15. (1946) 'Notorious woman of affairs...adventurous man of the world!' 'Deep their love! Great the risk!' 'Electric tension!' 'The screen's top romantic stars in a melodramatic masterpiece.' Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains starred.

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: Notorious

Hitchcock can be seen drinking champagne at the party in the mansion, in this very suspenseful movie. Hitchcock claimed that because the film dealt with uranium, the F.B.I. had him under surveillance for three months.

16. 'Alfred Hitchcock engulfs you in a whirlpool of terror and tension.'

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: Vertigo

James Stewart and Kim Novak.

17. (1944) 'Six men and three women - against the sea and each other.' Tallulah Bankhead, Connie Porter, William Bendix, Walter Slezak, Mary Anderson, and Hume Cronyn starred.

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: Lifeboat

As the whole film was shot in a life boat, they had to get a little creative for Hitchcock's cameo. He appears in a newspaper ad for a weight loss program as both the before and after shots. Hitchcock really had lost a lot of weight because of a crash diet. Most of the cast caught pneumonia, due to constant exposure to cold water.

18. '25 steps down into a subway and for the first time he doesn't come home that night.'

From Quiz Hitchcock Movie Taglines

Answer: The Wrong Man

Starring Henry Fonda and Vera Miles.
