"The Poseidon Adventure" Challenge

Answer: It was where Moses received The Ten Commandments.

He mentioned this to Belle near the beginning. We found out later on in the movie that their grandson lived in Israel, and that is why they were going there. Belle was also wearing a necklace that featured the sign of life. This showed she was a very passionate and religious woman.

2. What year was "The Poseidon Adventure" released?

From Quiz The Poseidon Adventure

"The Poseidon Adventure" was released in 1972. This was at a time when digital imaging was unheard of. In the scenes where you see people falling or sliding down a large incline, remember they are real people.

Irwin Allen produced it and went as an uncredited director.

Linda needed to see a nurse because her husband thought she was seasick. The name of the nurse appeared in the movie's closing credits. 7. The epicenter of the tsunami was 130 miles northwest of what island country?

From Quiz "The Poseidon Adventure" Challenge

Answer: Crete

The guy from Athens told Captain Harrison this. Obviously the purpose of the tsunami was to capsize the ship and it was central to the plot of a handful of survivors banding together to make it out of the capsized ship alive. I also want to touch base on a common misconception among fans of the movie. The tidal wave occurred in the Atlantic Ocean, not the Mediterranean.

8. How tall was the tidal wave that overturned the ship?

From Quiz The Poseidon Adventure

Answer: 90 Feet

The tidal wave that overturned the ship was 90 feet. I still get the chills when I see that scene.

9. Who played the Captain of the ship?

From Quiz The Poseidon Adventure

Answer: Leslie Nielsen

10. What natural disaster caused the tidal wave?

From Quiz The Poseidon Adventure

Answer: Underwater Earthquake

An underwater earthquake caused the tidal wave. The earthquake started 130 miles northwest of the island of Crete. To quote the movie, "One hundred and thirty miles northwest of Crete". Crete is an island off the coast of Greece.

Yes it was the purser! He told Robin earlier in the film that he really ran the ship. His purpose there was to encourage the survivors to stay with him and wait until help arrived.

13. What day did the tidal wave hit?

From Quiz The Poseidon Adventure

Answer: New Year's Day

The ship was celebrating New Year's Eve and at midnight, which is New Year's Day, the ship was hit by the tidal wave. Remember they all sang "Auld Lang Syne" and said "Happy New Year's"?

14. Which ship was used for some of the interior shots?

From Quiz The Poseidon Adventure

Answer: Queen Mary

The Queen Mary was used since it's docked in Long Beach, California.

15. What character did Gene Hackman portray?

From Quiz The Poseidon Adventure

Answer: Reverend Frank Scott & Rev. Frank Scott & Reverend Scott & Rev. Scott & Rev Frank Scott & Rev Scott

Reverend Frank Scott, also known as "Buzz", was on his way to a country in Africa when the ship capsized. Reverend Scott was determined to save his fellow passengers, but only a handful actually listened to him. They didn't make it easy for him, they kept complaining the whole way. Sherwood Schwartz originally wanted Gene Hackman for the part of Mike Brady on "The Brady Bunch", but ABC wanted Robert Reed. This was because Gene, at that time, wasn't a well known actor. I fall in love with Gene Hackman every time I see this movie, but as soon as I watch "Superman" I immediately dislike him. I wonder why that is?

16. What part of the ship did the survivors with Reverend Scott climb through first?

From Quiz "The Poseidon Adventure" Challenge

Answer: The kitchen

They mentioned it several times. This was also where Belle freaked out and wanted to go back, but Manny encouraged her to go through and she made it. This was just one of many rooms the survivors had to go through to escape the ship.

17. What character did Carol Lynley play?

From Quiz The Poseidon Adventure

Answer: Nonnie Parry

Carol was given the part of Nonnie Parry three days before the movie was scheduled to shoot. Carol didn't have to have a screen test. The character she played was a woman paralyzed with fear. Carol herself was deathly afraid of heights and so was the character she portrayed.

18. How many people survive (assuming that nobody else survived that the movie did not show)?

From Quiz The Poseidon Adventure

Answer: 6

The characters that survived were played by Ernest Borgnine, Eric Shea, Pamela Sue Martin, Red Buttons, Carol Lynley, and Jack Albertson.

19. Belle was the swimming champion of the Women's Swimming Association for what state?

From Quiz "The Poseidon Adventure" Challenge

Answer: New York

She told the reverend this right as he was about to swim through the corridor. Unfortunately she could not survive a swim through the corridor and ended up dying while saving the reverend. RIP Belle Rosen.

20. What song did Carol Lynley's character sing?

He led a handful of passengers through the ship but unfortunately he did not make it out when he let go from the wheel and fell into the fire below. Mike was the first name of Mr. Rogo, John was the chaplain, and James was Martin's first name. Thanks for playing! I hope you had fun.
