Anderson also wrote "Bottle Rocket" and "The Royal Tenenbaums" with Owen Wilson. Anderson met Wilson while he was studying at the University of Texas. "Rushmore" had a lot of events inspired by their own lives. For example, the Geometry classroom at the beginning of the film was actually Anderson's Math classroom.

Although there was no flashback scene in the film, allowing us to see Mr. Applebee, his photos were in Miss Cross's bedroom and the actor in those photos was Owen Wilson. That's why his name appeared on the cast list, though uncredited.
