Badu talked about this in several different interviews. According to J Dilla's mother, Dilla would hallucinate often, and in one instance her son told her that ODB of the Wu-Tang Clan, who had already passed away at the time, was talking to him. According to Dilla, ODB told him which bus to get on once he crosses over to the afterlife. "Telephone" was written as a tribute to Dilla after Badu heard of his passing. "Telephone" starts with the following lines: "Telephone / It's Ol' Dirty / He wants to give you directions home / Says it won't be too long." The track was featured on "New Amerykah Part One: (4th World War)."
