Shaun Cassidy was the son of award-winning actor/singers Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy and became a teen idol in the late 1970s. He went on to become an actor, and, later, a writer and producer. His older half-brother is David Cassidy, from the American TV series, "The Partridge Family." "Hey Deanie" was written by Eric Carmen who had been inspired by the movie "The Splendor in the Grass" in which Natalie Wood starred as a troubled teenager named Deanie. Carmen released the song himself but it was Shaun's version that was on the top of the charts in November, 1977.
