Cyndi Lauper Trivia Questions

1. Who did Captain Lou portray in Cyndi Lauper's music video, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"?

From Quiz
Captain Lou Albano and Cyndi Lauper

Answer: The father figure

Captain Lou played Cyndi's dad in the music video "Girl's Just Want to Have Fun". That was her real mother, Catrine, in the music video. The song peaked at #2 U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. That's right; this classic wasn't #1. Hard to believe, huh? Well, the 1950s series "The Honeymooners"'s (which Cyndi said on she loves on Johnny Carson's show in 1984) ratings were never so good, which is why they only made 39 episodes. Captain Lou Albano and Cyndi met purely by chance on a plane in 1983. The rest is history.

2. "Shine", an independant EP release, came out in what year?

From Quiz This Quiz is Cyn-ful!

Answer: 2002

"Shine" was a 2002 EP release despite the 2001 copyright. It was an independent release that charted at the over all #2 position in the same year. This was the first time Cyndi ever released any media without the assistance of a major label.

Lou Albano appeared as the cook in the diner they were at in "Time After Time" music video. Written by Lauper, the song peaked at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart on June 9, 1984 and stood at the top for a couple weeks. The movie Cyndi was tearing at in the beginning of the video was "The Garden of Allah" from 1936, starring Marlene Dietrich, Charles Boyer, and Basil Rathbone.

Unlike the other five singles released from this album, there was no accompanying video for the song.

Answer: God

Captain Lou appeared all throughout this music video, the first time a little after the two minute mark. Just what were they hoping He would understand? I can't impart that information, for Funtrivia is a family website. But let's just say, contrary to what some people contend, the '80s were NOT just like the '50s.

From Quiz Cyndi Lauper Lyrics

Answer: She Bop

"She Bop" is another single from her debut album, "She's So Unusual." This song was released in July 1984 and hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100. Due to sexual lyrics, the song was included on the 'Filthy Fifteen' list by the Parents Music Resource Center. This group was founded in 1985 to try to increase parental control over the music children were exposed to (particularly violent, sexual lyrics or lyrics with references to drugs). This song made that list and got a Parental Advisory sticker slapped on it.

Answer: She's So Wonderful

One of the big wigs at Portrait Records exclaimed that Cyndi was "so wonderful" when he heard a demo tape of one of her tracks. Her manager at the time (David Wolff) retorted, "she's so unusual". They tossed the two around as ideas for the title of her first album. The rest is history... It reached number one pretty much everywhere (Ireland, Norway, United States, Canada, Israel, Japan and the list goes on...) and Lauper won an American Video Award and MTV Video Music Award for the song. 23. What episode of "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" did Cyndi Lauper appear in?

From Quiz Captain Lou Albano and Cyndi Lauper

Answer: "Captain Lou Is Missing"

Cyndi Lauper's appearance on "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" marked her first appearance on a television series. In the episode ("Captain Lou is Missing"), Cyndi bursts into Mario Brothers Plumbing with flyers crying that her best friend, Captain Lou, is missing. Mario (played by Captain Lou Albano) is saddened by the news, for Captain Lou is his hero. Mario and his brother Luigi vow to help her find him. A world-wide search ensues. It comes to an end when the President of the United States calls off Operation Lou Search. Captain Lou is deemed missing forever. Mario attempts to cheer the despondent Cyndi up by reminding her that at least he got to know Captain Lou. Captain Lou is his hero. I felt the same way as Mario. I was barely a year old when this episode aired in the United States 11/30/89, but "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show" was played in reruns for years, and I still remember seeing the show very clearly in my extreme youth. I had the privilege to meet Captain Lou Albano in a hardware store in New York years ago. I asked him about his being on the show. He said he did it for the kids, and that he wanted to make them happy. He did the right thing. After Captain Lou died, it was the now grown kids from the 80's who made the most YouTube videos in his remembrance, not his wrestling fans. I had the equal privilege of meeting Cyndi Lauper at a book signing a few years ago. I asked her if she remembered being on "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" episode "Captain Lou is Missing". She told me that she remembered making it, but that she had never seen it.

24. Which song are the following lyrics from: "She is awakening in dark swells and mysteries"?

From Quiz 15 Deadly Cyns

Answer: Sisters Of Avalon

This upbeat song is from the album of the same name.

25. This song was used in a movie soundtrack and has the following lyrics: "What's good enough for you Is good enough for me It's good enough It's good enough for me Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah" Can you name it?

From Quiz Cyndi Lauper Lyrics

Answer: The Goonies 'R' Good Enough

"The Goonies 'R' Good Enough" was released in 1985 as a single from the soundtrack for the movie "The Goonies." It was her fifth top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100. I guess it was one of those songs that artists get sick of performing live for one reason or another as Lauper refused to include it in her live shows between 1987 and 2004. Fans kept asking for it though so eventually she included it again. Originally Lauper called the song "Good Enough" but that was changed by the film studio so that there was a closer connection to the movie title. The movie "The Goonies" was directed by Steven Spielberg who made Lauper musical director, giving her free reign to include artists she wanted on the soundtrack. She included her friends The Bangles as well as Philip Bailey and Teena Marie.

26. What girl group sang back-up on the hit 'Change Of Heart'?

From Quiz 1980s singer Cyndi Lauper

Answer: The Bangles

The Bangles provided backing vocals on that top 10 hit.

27. From the episode of "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" with Cyndi Lauper, what song of hers were Mario and Luigi listening to on the radio at the start of the episode?

From Quiz Captain Lou Albano and Cyndi Lauper

Answer: Girls Just Want to Have Fun

In 1989, while on "Regis and Kathie Lee", Captain Lou Albano shaved his trademarked beard and announced he would be playing Mario on the "Super Mario Bros. Super Show". The "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" music video was shot during the summer of 1983 around her 30th birthday. Cyndi Lauper altered the songs original lyrics (despite writing many songs she did not write this one), which were mostly about a girl pleasing a man, to just a girl's anthem. Captain Lou Albano appeared as Mario in a commercial warning kids not to do drugs. He warned kids and anyone who offers them a drug is not their friend, and that "...if you do drugs, you'll go to Hell before you die."

28. The album entitled "A Night to Remember" (1989) had only two US singles. Which one was the first?

From Quiz This Quiz is Cyn-ful!

Answer: I Drove All Night

"I Drove All Night" (a top 10 single in the US) was the first US single from this album; it was originally written for Roy Orbison, but he didn't record it until after Cyndi. "My First Night Without You" was the second single. "Heading West" and "A Night to Remember" were also singles internationally from the above mentioned LP, but not in the US. All were released in 1989.

29. Originally written by Prince, this song contains the lyrics: "I know, that you're goin with another guy I don't care, 'cause I love you baby that's no lie I love you more than I did when you were mine" Can you name it?

From Quiz Cyndi Lauper Lyrics

Answer: When You Were Mine

The song "When You Were Mine" was written and recorded originally by Prince for his 1980 album "Dirty Mind." The Lauper version was covered in 1983 and released as a promotional single only in the United States. In Canada and Japan it was commercially released. Lauper performed the song at the 1985 American Music Awards. Both versions of the songs are synthesizer based, with the Prince version being a bit more up tempo.
