Slade were lead singer and guitarist Neville "Noddy" Holder, drummer Don Powell, guitarist Dave Hill and bass guitarist Jimmy Lea. Jimmy also played the violin and keyboards. The band were formed in 1966 as The N'Betweens, before becoming Ambrose Slade and then reverting to the name Slade. Early recordings by the N'Betweens and Ambrose Slade are very rare and collectable! In their early days, the band had very short hair and a "Skinhead" image, and early pictures show them in boots, jeans and braces.

Noddy was awarded the MBE in 2000, for his services to music.
