Amazing Race 30 Trivia Questions

1. In Leg 1, teams visited Iceland where, for the Road Block, the selected racers needed to spell what destination?

From Quiz
Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 30"

Answer: Ingólfstorg

Around the peak known as Mount Esja, teams found their first Road Block clue waiting next to a fleet of all-terrain buggies. Here, one member of each team took a ride through the riverbeds of the beautiful Icelandic landscape searching for eleven large, wooden letters, each marked with a number. When they had all of this information, they could return to the starting point and spell out the word Ingólfstorg to get their next clue. Henry, Conor, Cody, Jen, Shawn, Trevor, Brittany, Dessie, Tim, Daniel, and Sarah were selected to participate in this first Road Block of the race.

2. In Leg 9, teams flew to what city, found in the Kingdom of Bahrain?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [5]

Answer: Manama

Teams needed to leave Harare, Zimbabwe at the start of their ninth leg and commence a gauntlet of flights to reach the city of Manama, the capital of Bahrain, where they would be spending this portion of the race. To get there, teams needed to fly through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Dubai, UAE, a more-than-3,000 mile trip. When they arrived, teams could pick up their vehicles and head onward to their first destination.

3. Leg 7 started in which country?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [4]

Answer: Czech Republic

Leg 7 sent teams hurtling due south from Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, more than five thousand miles across Europe and Africa to the Zimbabwean capital city of Harare. Leaving Letenske Park in the order they arrived, teams had to go and pick up their plane tickets and then, landing in Harare, teams needed to go to Harare Station and take a diesel train into the savannah to Marondera. Their next destination was the Imire Rhino & Wildlife Conservancy.

4. In the start of Leg 5, teams travelled to Les Baux-de-Provence, arriving there at what time?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [3]

Answer: Early in the morning

Teams started Leg 5 at the Place des Lices in Saint-Tropez, France, heading out from their fourth Pit Stop in the middle of the night with instructions to drive themselves to Les Baux-de-Provence, two hundred kilometres west. It meant that when teams arrived at their destination and walked up to the top of the city to visit Château des Baux, they were doing so just before sunrise, early in the morning atop the fortified city in the south of France. All teams had to wait for the château to open before receiving their next clue.

5. The third leg of the race took place entirely in what Moroccan city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [2]

Answer: Tangier

Starting leg three in the early morning, the nine competing teams had to fly from the Belgian border city of Antwerp to the northern coastal city of Tangier, Morocco. Upon landing, teams could take a taxi to the Medina Fish Port by the water's edge where they could find one of three marked bins on the docks and begin sorting through a fisherman's catch of the day. If they could organize the fish provided per the expectations of the fishermen and have them be ready for market, they could receive their next clue.

6. This season's race began in what city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [1]

Answer: New York City

The island of Manhattan, was, not for the first time in "The Amazing Race", the starting line for a momentous race around the world for eleven new teams of two, each selected for their particular competitiveness. This time, they started in front of a crowd at Washington Square Park and were told that their first clue was right behind them in the park's fountain. Ripping it open, it was all a matter of getting to JFK International Airport to get on the first flight to Reykjavik; the first seven teams got the earlier flight while the last four arrived shortly after.

7. Ten racers completed the SkyClimb Road Block in Leg 2, doing so in what country?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 30"

Answer: Belgium

Heading to the city of Antwerp, Belgium in Leg 2, teams started the day with a Road Block task that pushed racers to their physical limits, forcing them to climb a 100m ladder to the top of a crane over the edge of the Antwerp waterfront. Shawn, Chris, Jessica, Joey, Evan, Sarah, Kristi, Lucas, Alex, and Eric completed this task and collected their clues at the top to keep on racing.

8. The race's third leg (in Morocco), featured the reappearance of which race staple?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [2]

Answer: The Travelocity Roaming Gnome

After preparing their fish for market, teams were given a clue sending them into the marketplace on foot to find the Kisariate Jbala Souk. There, they could find a local merchant with race colours sitting with the Travelocity Roaming Gnome and their morning tea. If the team members greeting him with 'As-salam Alaykum', they would be given both the clue and the gnome, who would need to accompany them for the remainder of the leg (and join them during challenges).

9. Visiting Tangier, Morocco, teams sent the Travelocity Roaming Gnome on how many ziplines over the city markets?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 30"

Answer: Two & 2

Visiting the kasbah of Tangier, team members chosen for the Road Block had to navigate the rooftops and narrow medina alleys of the Old City, sending the Travelocity Roaming Gnome on a trip to different destinations with the aim of collecting him and a coin they could use on a marked payphone. If they completed the course and used the payphone they could receive a password (Sabah al-khair) that they could say to a local shopkeeper to collect their next clue.

10. Teams who elected to make baguettes for their Detour in Leg 4 had to make how many loaves?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 30"

Answer: Fifty & 50

Only Alex and Conor and Cody and Jessica elected to bake bread on the French Riviera, arriving in Saint-Tropez and tackling the 'Bread' option provided, which entailed that they make thirty pounds of baguettes into fifty loaves for a baker to approve. All the other teams went with 'Tread', a task that sent them to a sandalmaker to make two traditional Tropezienne sandals. If they could pay attention to detail and construct the footwear properly, they could deliver them to get their next clue.

11. In Leg 9, teams needed to ask a Bahraini shop for the 'King of Halwa'. What were they given in return?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [5]

Answer: Sweets

Finishing the shipyard task, teams needed to drive further into Muharraq to find the Hussein Mohammad Showaiter Sweets shop. If teams asked for the 'King of Halwa', then the shopkeeper would present them with a local jelly sweet traditionally made in Bahrain. After sampling the food, they could get their clue and drive onward to Delmon Pottery Industry in A'ali. Here, teams received a list of ten items, all of which they could find hidden in clay pots on the premises. Bringing the items, one by one, for approval, they needed to get all ten to get their next clue, hidden inside another pot.

12. Once Partner Swapped, teams needed to navigate Imire Lake via which means?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [4]

Answer: Raft

With the teams split and remade, Phil sent them off to grab their first clue from the local guide. For this task, 'new teams' needed to grab a makeshift raft and paddle out onto Imire Lake, searching the islands to find two canteens hanging from the trees. These canteens would come along with them and be packed with their next clue. With this, they could continue paddling a quarter mile to the opposite shore. They would be able to snag their next clue, visible from the lookout tower found there.

13. In the 'Full of Bull' Detour option in Leg 5, teams needed to find how many different coloured ribbons to get their next clue?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [3]

Answer: Three & 3

Finishing the Road Block, teams needed to visit the Café de la Fontaine in Maussane-les-Alpilles to obtain their Detour clue from a man enjoying a glass of red wine. The first of their Detour options, 'Full of Bull', was the one completed by most teams. It required that they travel to the Arles Amphitheatre and search through the hundred bull replicas there for three that had ribbons representing the colours of the French flag. If they could collect the red, the white, and the blue, they could trade them for their next clue.

14. In Leg 4, which individual racer chipped their tooth during the Saint-Tropez sailing Road Block?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 30"

Answer: Evan

In an unexpected injurious turn, Evan chipped one of her front teeth on the French Riviera, getting hit in the face by the boom of her Optimist dinghy during the Road Block in the race's fourth leg. For this challenge, team members needed to head out to sea and collect two halves of a clue from marked buoys out on the water. When they brought them both back to shore, they could continue racing. Despite Evan's injury, she and Henry were able to keep racing; she would receive emergency dental work upon completing the leg and be in good enough shape to continue by the next Pit Start.

15. Which team was the only one to finish the 'Colorful' Road Block task in Southern France (in Leg 5)?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 30"

Answer: Joey and Tim

Teams, as always, had two quite different options when they visited the city of Arles, France. In 'Full of Bull', teams had to visit the local amphitheatre and search through more than a hundred differently-sized bull replicas to find three with different coloured ribbons (each a colour of the national flag). If they found the correct three they could keep racing. In 'Colorful', teams needed to complete a tricky slide puzzle based on a Van Gogh painting in front of Pont Van Gogh. Only Joey and Tim completed the latter task and, already at the back of the pack, they were eliminated.

16. Teams milked what animal when they visited Bahrain in Leg 9?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [5]

Answer: Camel

The Bahrain Endurance Village in the town of Zallaq was the penultimate stop for teams in the ninth leg as they were required to visit it and finish one last task. The ask was straightforward: milk a camel. Teams had to fill a glass up the old fashioned way, milking camels into a measuring cup and to the approval of local farmers. Their next clue would be for the Pit Stop.

17. The 'Colorful' Detour option, encountered by teams in Leg 5, had them completing a slide puzzle based on a famous artwork by which artist?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [3]

Answer: Vincent Van Gogh

Teams who didn't visit the Arles Amphitheatre instead had to make their way to Pont Van Gogh, a local bridge painted by Vincent Van Gogh several times. There, in front of the landmark, they had to solve a unique slide puzzle featuring the bridge, in doing so unlocking the back of the easel where they could nab their next clue. Only Joey and Tim ended up heading to this challenge, completing it while the other seven teams finished 'Full of Bull'.

18. Which team did not complete the 'Drop It Off' Detour task in Morocco in Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [2]

Answer: Alex and Conor

When teammates reunited following the Detour, they had a choice to make, a Detour splitting them between 'Drop It Off' and 'Shake It Off'. In 'Drop It Off', teams located a delivery truck at the Grand Socco and dragged crates of food through the nearby streets to different local restaurants. They could trade the fruits for stamps that would spell their next destination. In 'Shake It Off', teams instead headed to the Restaurant Mamounia Palace and joined the local belly dancers to search for the same key words spelling out their next destination. Cedric and Shawn, Eric and Daniel, and Lucas and Brittany were the only teams to complete the former task; everyone else went belly dancing.

19. In Iceland (in Leg 1), teams needed to drink two tonics. One was Brennivín; what was the other?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [1]

Answer: Cod liver oil

Going back to Reykjavik, teams reached Ingólfstorg and met with bodybuilder Katrín. There, they would be asked two questions about local tonics, the first one being Black Death, or Brennivín, and the second being cod liver oil. If they could get the correct answers to Katrín's questions, they would be able to enjoy a spoonful, one to one teammate and the other to the other, before being handed their next clue.

20. While some racers constructed a trebuchet for the Road Block in Leg 5, what were their partners doing?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race 30"

Answer: Waiting in the stockades

Continuing through the south of France in Leg 5, teams travelled around Provence, retracing the steps not only of the medieval era greats, but of racers in the very first "Amazing Race". It took them to the top of Les Baux-de-Provence where one member of each team had to construct a trebuchet using massive pieces on the cliffside. If Conor, Lucas, Kristi, Henry, Eric, Cody, Chris, and Tim completed this task, they would be able to continue on, freeing their waiting partner from the stocks next to the challenge.

21. Which team fell victim to the U-Turn in Prague in Leg 6, resulting in their elimination?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 30"

Answer: Trevor and Chris

While the Detour found in Prague in Leg 6 was considered 'Blind', teams also faced a Double U-Turn that wasn't. Cody and Jessica forced Trevor and Chris to complete both sides of the Detour to keep themselves in the race and it resulted in the latter's elimination. In this leg, teams didn't know what they would be doing until they arrived at their tasks. 'This' allowed them to work in the local beer industry, stacking empty kegs, pouring mugs of beer, and delivering stock to a boat on the river. 'That' instead sent teals to Charles University to attend lectures on astronomy in preparation for an eight-question oral exam.

22. Which team was last to be eliminated from the race at the end of Leg 11 (in Hong Kong)?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [6]

Answer: Alex and Conor

As teams opened their briefcases they found two specific road signs-- one for Johnston Road and one for Wan Chai Road. This was all teams needed to be able to search for Phil at the race's final Pit Stop, there at the specific intersection. Though they had a Speed Bump, Henry and Evan pulled into first place at the Detour and kept the lead to win their second leg of the race (and making them one of the three teams in the final leg). Alex and Conor, unable to figure out their briefcase, ended up being eliminated out on the race course. They became the final team eliminated.

23. Which team was eliminated in Manama, Bahrain at the end of Leg 9?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [5]

Answer: Lucas and Brittany

To end off Leg 9, teams drove themselves to the Tree of Life, a 400-year-old tree in the desert of Sakhir. Alex and Conor arrived there first, winning their third leg of the race and winning $7,500 USD each. The elimination was a little bit more complicated since Lucas and Brittany, troubled by a missing passport during their connection in Dubai, were forced to obtain a temporary replacement passport from the U.S. Embassy. By the time the pair reached the first task in Bahrain, Phil was already waiting to eliminate them from the race in fifth place.

24. Which team was eliminated in France at the end of Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [3]

Answer: Joey and Tim

Finishing their Detours, teams drove themselves to the Hotel Benvengudo in Les Baux-de-Provence and, with that, to the fifth Pit Stop of the race in the gardens there. Lucas and Brittany, leading for the entire leg (after placing second-to-last in Leg 4), hit the mat in first to win a trip for two to Bali, Indonesia courtesy of Travelocity. As they were followed in by Kristi and Jen, Eric and Daniel, and Henry and Evan, Lucas dropped to one knee and popped the question, making them one of the handful of teams to get engaged on the race course. Although Trevor and Chris got lost driving through France, Joey and Tim fell to the bottom of the standings and were eliminated in eighth.

25. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 3 (in Morocco)?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [2]

Answer: Cedric and Shawn

Finishing their Detours, teams were led to their Pit Stop by their found key words, and it meant checking in on the mat with Phil at the courtyard in Moulay Hafid Palace. Henry and Evan managed to lead as early as the Road Block and sustained that first place position all the way to the mat, claiming a trip for two to Zurich, Switzerland courtesy of Travelocity. The leg's last place team, this time, was Cedric and Shawn, the former of whom dropped from first to last in the Road Block. Fortunately, they avoided elimination but would be forced to complete a Speed Bump in Leg 4.

26. Which team was first to be eliminated from the race, hitting the Pit Stop in Iceland in eleventh place?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [1]

Answer: Dessie and Kayla

Once teams imbibed in local tonics, they could head on foot to their first Pit Stop on the shores of Reykjavíkurtjörn in the center of the Icelandic capital. Kristi and Jen overtook Cody and Jessica during this final run to take the first win of the race, winning themselves a trip for two courtesy of Travelocity headed to Santorini, Greece. The elimination for this leg was a tight one, requiring that production check the tapes to see who hit the mat first. By a single footstep, April and Sarah beat Dessie and Sarah, eliminating the girls from the race.

27. Though teams were already hampered by the Partner Swap twist in Leg 7, they were also marred by two limited-space Detour options. How many teams could complete each task?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race 30"

Answer: Three & 3

With teams swapped at the start of a series of tasks in the Imire Rhino & Wildlife Conservancy, their quick ability to work with new people on the fly was put to the test. Reaching the lookout tower on the conservation grounds, teams could choose either 'Rhino Track', which involved traveling on horseback to find signs of poachers, or 'Bush Whack', which involved driving through the bog to replenish ranger stations. Regardless of the task chosen, only three teams could complete it due to limited space. Brittany and Alex, Daniel and Evan, and Jessica and Kristi completed 'Rhino Track' while Cody and Jen, Henry and Eric, and Lucas and Conor completed 'Bush Whack'.

28. Teams travelled to what Thai city for the tenth leg of the race?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [5]

Answer: Chiang Mai

Leaving the Tree of Life, teams needed to head to the airport in Manama and fly three thousand miles due east to Southeast Asia and the Northern Thai city of Chiang Mai. Upon arriving, teams could hop into a local vehicle known as a songthaew, which they would use for the duration of the leg, and make their way to the gardens of the Royal Park Rajapruek. They would be able to find a floral garland amongst the elephant statues on the grounds, and if they handed that off to one of the correct women near the Royal Pavilion, they would be given their next clue.

29. Teams found a Double U-Turn at the start of Leg 8 (in Harare). Which team did not see or place their face on it?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [4]

Answer: Eric and Daniel

Teams left the seventh Pit Stop immediately, hopping into safari shuttles and returning to the entrance of the Imire Rhino & Wildlife Conservancy to catch a cab. From here, teams needed to drive back to the city of Harare and find Khan Fabrics, Haberdashery and Sports. This wouldn't simply be where teams found their next clue; they would also be surprised by the appearance of the race's second Double U-Turn. Here, both front-running teams used the device; Lucas and Brittany U-Turned Cody and Jessica while Alex and Conor U-Turned Henry and Evan.

30. In Leg 6, teams flew from the south of France to what European city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race 30" [3]

Answer: Prague

Teams booked tickets on a Travelocity Mobile App at the start of Leg 6, leaving the fifth Pit Stop in Provence, France and flying themselves from Marseille to Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic. While four teams caught the first flight, three were booked onto a second, one hour later. Before arriving, teams were warned that a Double U-Turn would be waiting for them ahead on the race course.
