Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This season's race began in what city?

Answer: New York City

The island of Manhattan, was, not for the first time in "The Amazing Race", the starting line for a momentous race around the world for eleven new teams of two, each selected for their particular competitiveness. This time, they started in front of a crowd at Washington Square Park and were told that their first clue was right behind them in the park's fountain. Ripping it open, it was all a matter of getting to JFK International Airport to get on the first flight to Reykjavik; the first seven teams got the earlier flight while the last four arrived shortly after.
2. Taking a zipline across Geitárgljúfur in Leg 1, teams needed to nab which of these?

Answer: Flag

Landing in Iceland, teams were told to drive themselves to their first destination, Geitárgljúfur, and as the sun rose they could search the lands there for the first clue box of the race. Here, teams had to collect an Icelandic flag by strapping themselves into a high-wire zipline and taking themselves across the massive canyon; their partner could pull them back and they could trade the flag for their next clue.
3. During the race's first Road Block, team members got to ride in which of these?

Answer: Off-road vehicles

After their zipline task, teams drove onward to Esjumelar to pick up their next clue, the first Road Block of the race. For this, one member of each team needed to ride in an ATV around the open landscape of Iceland's Mount Esja and search for eleven Icelandic letters propped up in a local riverbed, each with an associated number. Once they returned to the starting point, they could use the letters and their numbers to spell their next destination, Ingólfstorg. and drive back to Reykjavik to find it.

Henry, Conor, Cody, Jen, Shawn, Trevor, Brittany, Dessie, Tim, Daniel, and Sarah completed this task.
4. In Iceland (in Leg 1), teams needed to drink two tonics. One was Brennivín; what was the other?

Answer: Cod liver oil

Going back to Reykjavik, teams reached Ingólfstorg and met with bodybuilder Katrín. There, they would be asked two questions about local tonics, the first one being Black Death, or Brennivín, and the second being cod liver oil. If they could get the correct answers to Katrín's questions, they would be able to enjoy a spoonful, one to one teammate and the other to the other, before being handed their next clue.
5. Which team was first to be eliminated from the race, hitting the Pit Stop in Iceland in eleventh place?

Answer: Dessie and Kayla

Once teams imbibed in local tonics, they could head on foot to their first Pit Stop on the shores of Reykjavíkurtjörn in the center of the Icelandic capital. Kristi and Jen overtook Cody and Jessica during this final run to take the first win of the race, winning themselves a trip for two courtesy of Travelocity headed to Santorini, Greece.

The elimination for this leg was a tight one, requiring that production check the tapes to see who hit the mat first. By a single footstep, April and Sarah beat Dessie and Sarah, eliminating the girls from the race.
6. Starting Leg 2, teams were given tickets to fly to what city en route to Antwerp, Belgium?

Answer: Amsterdam

Teams left the city of Reykjavik early in Leg 2 and were given tickets on a flight to Amsterdam in the Netherlands though teams were under no obligation to use these tickets. Ultimately, they needed to make their way to Antwerp, Belgium where they would have to find Paleis op de Meir, a chocolate shop.

When it opened in the morning, they would be able to head inside and receive their clue from Stan, a master chocolatier.
7. In Leg 2, team members completing the Road Block needed to finish the SkyClimb. How many racers could participate at the same time?

Answer: Four

All teams got their chocolate shop clues at the same time and opened a Road Block. For this, one person on each team had to get high, joining SkyClimb in a tough physical task. For this, Shawn, Chris, Jessica, Joey, Evan, Sarah, Kristi, Lucas, Alex, and Eric raced to the waterfront and had to climb 100m up a rising rope ladder suspended by a crane. If they could reach the clue at the top before the ride was over, they could continue racing.
8. Which Detour task was finished by more teams when they visited Antwerp, Belgium in Leg 2?

Answer: Both were completed equally

Finishing their upper-body workout for their Road Block, teams collected their first Detour choice for the race. This time, it was a choice between 'Old Print' and 'Diamond Glint'. In 'Old Print', teams needed to complete the painstaking process of setting up a printing press to create their next clue at the Plantin-Moretus Museum. If they could replicate a document, they could use it as directions to their next task.

In 'Diamond Glint', teams visited the ADC Building in the Diamond Quarter and identified the values of three stones based on their carat, colour, and clarity, adding their worth to the value of a provided necklace. If they correctly valued the sum total, they'd continue racing. Both tasks were finished by five teams.
9. During the Head-to-Head encountered by teams at the end of Leg 2, teams dressed up as which of these?

Answer: French fries

Teams finished the Detour and needed to make their way to the statue of Silvius Brabo waiting at Grote Markt in Antwerp and there, they found the first-ever Head-to-Head featured on "The Amazing Race", a team vs. team challenge where the winner would proceed and the loser would be forced to wait for their next challengers. For this one, team members needed to dress up in french fry outfits and race around an obstacle course, pushing stacks of potato sacks on dollies to cross the finish line first.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 2 (in Belgium)?

Answer: April and Sarah

Completing the Head-to-Head at the end of Leg 2, teams were allowed to step onto the Pit Stop mat as soon as they succeeded at their last challenge, checking in in the order they managed to wrap up the frites race. Cody and Jessica beat Cedric and Shawn at the first race and checked in first, each receiving a $2,500 USD prize.

The final Head-to-Head was held between April and Sarah and back-of-the-pack racers Eric and Daniel; the twins overtook the goat yoga instructors to stay in the race and, as such, April and Sarah were sent packing.
