From Quiz ""The Amazing Race Canada 5" [5]"

Amazing Race Canada 5 Trivia Questions

1. In which city did teams complete their first Detour task of the race?

From Quiz
Detours of "The Amazing Race Canada 5"

Answer: Vancouver, British Columbia

After flying from St. John's, Newfoundland to Vancouver, British Columbia (across the entire country), teams spent all of the rest of their first leg of the race in B.C., completing their Road Block and Detour in the Downtown Vancouver area. After the Road Block, teams chose between two active tasks for their Detour, 'Pedal', which involved biking, and 'Paddle', which involved piloting a dragon boat. Ultimately, seven teams completed the bike polo challenge while only three paddled dragon boats before heading to the Pit Stop.

2. In Leg 7, teams flew to which Newfoundland city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [4]

Answer: Corner Brook

Commencing Leg 7 of the race in Major's Hill Park in Ottawa, Ontario, teams were told to head to make their way to the airport to fly northeast, arriving in Corner Brook, Newfoundland (via Deer Lake). Upon landing there, the remaining six teams in the race needed to hop into 2017 Chevrolet Sparks and drive themselves to a specific Bank of Montreal branch in town to get their next clue. This happened to come in the form of a video message from the racers' families, of course resulting in emotional events.

3. Teams completed tasks in and around what B.C. city during the third leg of the race?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [2]

Answer: Nelson

To begin the third leg of the race, the remaining eight teams opened clues in Wood Buffalo, Alberta and were told to make their way back into British Columbia, taking a flight from the nearby city of Fort McMurray and landing in the Kootenay Region in Castlegar. Teams were told to locate their vehicles for this leg of the race-- a series of Chevrolet Bolt EVs-- and for this leg, they would be told to measure their efficiency with the regenerative braking feature. Whichever team was the most efficient would win a $5,000 reward at the Pit Stop.

4. Teams commenced this race in what far-east province of Canada?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [1]

Answer: Newfoundland and Labrador

Heading almost as far east as they could go, the ten teams in this fifth Canadian "Amazing Race" gathered at the starting line at the Queen's Battery in St. John's, Newfoundland, where they were given the go from Jon Montgomery and told to race up to Cabot Tower on Signal Hill for their first task. At that windy spot, teams needed to listen for a morse code message, then decode it with a provided guide to get their next destination and, subsequently, their next clue. Nine of the teams completed this task while Andrea and Ebonie instead decided to take an early penalty to get to the airport first; they would serve out their two-hour penalty upon arriving at the Pit Stop.

5. The Detour in Saskatchewan in Leg 10 forced teams to choose between 'The Horse' and what other option?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [5]

Answer: 'The Cart'

In Redburn, Karen and Bert found their Speed Bump task directing them to the barn to clean a horse's stable. All other teams dug into their Detour task, a choice between 'The Horse' and 'The Cart'. In 'The Horse', teams had to take part in a horse auction with one racer becoming an auctioneer and the other calling from the crowd. If they could follow the etiquette properly and auction off a horse, they could receive their next clue. In 'The Cart', teams instead moved and managed a grain auger, using it to transport one thousand kilograms of canola seed into a cart. This was a Canada 150 Challenge. Sam and Paul, Adam and Andrea, and Karen and Bert put 'The Cart' before 'The Horse' while Korey and Ivana and Kenneth and Ryan bid on 'The Horse' first.

6. Teams completing the 'Family Story' Detour option in Leg 7 (in Newfoundland) dealt with which pantheon?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [4]

Answer: Norse

After visiting the BMO location, teams drove to the discovery center at Gros Morne National Park to find a Detour clue waiting for them. In 'Family Story' teams needed to listen to three actors recite details of the family tree of the Norse Gods to celebrate the Viking landing in the area. Once they built an accurate family tree of the Norse pantheon, they could get their next clue. This was done by Karen and Bert and Adam and Andrea. Other teams completed 'Find Your Dory', which had teams paddle a dory boat into Bonne Bay to locate a marked lobster trap containing their next clue. Before this, Andrea and Ebonie had to complete a Speed Bump task for placing last in Leg 6. For this, they had to participate in an archery challenge and accumulate points on a bullseye. After getting twenty-five points, they continued on the race course.

7. The bulk of the race's fifth leg took place in what Thai city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [3]

Answer: Bangkok

A trip to Bangkok brought teams to the Caturday Café where they received their next clue. This told teams to make their way to a water taxi to navigate the river from Pier 2 at the Yodpiman Riverwalk all the way to Wat Khuha Sawan Pier. There, they found the Artist's House, a local stage, Donning outfits and learning how to operate a traditional Thai puppet, they needed to perform in front of an audience in silence to get their next clue.

8. In Leg 1, teams were told to fly to what British Columbian city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [1]

Answer: Vancouver

Teams heading out from St. John's were told that their next clue would be near Vancouver, British Columbia's Capilano Suspension Bridge, so when they flew across the entire country, they ended up getting their next task from a falconer high up in the Suspension Bridge Park. This clue sent teams back into the city to find the statue of "Gassy Jack" Deighton in Gastown, and it's there that racers encountered their first Road Block clue of the race.

9. How many clay pots did teams need to create in the 'Throw It' Detour task of Leg 3 (in Nelson, B.C.)?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race Canada 5"

Answer: Two & 2

In Leg 3, teams headed to Selkirk College in Nelson, British Columbia to complete one of two tasks celebrating the local artisan community. In 'Throw It', teams ended up learning pottery, combining their efforts to create two clay mugs to the approval of the instructor. In 'Strike It', they instead needed to work to create two coat hooks in a metalworking studio, bending and shaping metal rods to reflect a given design. Kenneth and Ryan ended up using their Express Pass to skip the Detour.

10. Which team neither used the Double U-Turn in Leg 9, nor ended up on the receiving end?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [5]

Answer: Karen and Bert

Completing the Detour teams needed to drive themselves to Rouleau, Saskatchewan to find the Dog River Hotel, a location made famous by the long-running CTV comedy show "Corner Gas". Upon arriving in the parking lot they could come face-to-face with the final Double U-Turn of the competition. Kenneth and Ryan, first to arrive, exacted revenge by U-Turning Sam and Paul while Korey and Ivana snuck ahead to U-Turn Adam and Andrea. Both U-Turned teams had to return to the Detour to complete 'The Horse'. After this, teams continued to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to build a maple leaf (as per a photograph) using cans of Campbell's Chunky Soup. When they had a stable maple leaf, they got their next task.

11. What sport was played during the Face Off challenge in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [4]

Answer: Five-Pin Bowling

After the Detour, teams were directed back into Corner Brook to participate in the fourth Canada 150 Challenge of the race at Corner Brook Centre Bowl. There, teams found the first Face Off in this season, taking turns going head-to-head at ten frames of five-pin bowling, a variation of the sport seemingly exclusive to Canada. If the team won their game, they could continue, but if they lost, they would need to face the next team in line. The last team to remain would have to wait out a predetermined amount of time before continuing on in the race.

12. Which team won the race's only Fast Forward in Leg 5?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [3]

Answer: Adam and Andrea

In Leg 5, teams reaching the Caturday Café were also greeted with the appearance of a Fast Forward task, allowing one team to skip all tasks in the leg and proceed directly to the next Pit Stop. For this task, participants needed to make their way by taxi to the National Stadium in Bangkok where they had to learn how to play hoop takraw, a sport played with feet involving kicking a ball into a suspended net. If the team could kick the ball back and forth once before scoring a goal, they could collect the Fast Forward clue. The task was completed by Adam and Andrea.

13. How many people swung off the big orange bridge in the Leg 3 Road Block (in B.C.)?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [2]

Answer: Eight

After delivering their coffee, teams needed to pick one member to 'hang with Bob'. For this task, the selected participant needed to head to the big orange bridge on the Kootenay River and perform a rope swing into the water to reach a big orange buoy with their clues sealed on top. Then, they had to swim back to shore to reunite with their partner and continue on with the race. The task was done by Bert, Zed, Andrea, Sam, Ivana, Ryan, Andrea, and Megan.

14. In which country did teams complete their Road Block task in the fourth Leg of the race?

From Quiz Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race Canada 5"

Answer: China

The fourth leg of the race took place almost entirely in Beijing, China, and teams ended off a length leg of travel and new cultures with a Road Block task. At Ren Yi Tang, a traditional pharmacy in Beijing, team members needed to hop into the apothecary room and using a small recipe written in Mandarin, they needed to locate and weigh out three ingredients scattered amongst hundreds of labeled items in the shop's cabinets. With an eye for detail and a bit of luck, this task was completed by Shabbir, Kenneth, Sam, Adam, Ebonie, Karen, and Korey.

15. Which team suffered a back injury when attempting the 'In Sync' Detour task in Leg 4 (in Beijing)?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race Canada 5"

Answer: Korey and Ivana

In Beijing, China in Leg 4, teams took part in one of two Detour tasks at the Ying Tung Natatorium, one of which ('In Sync') involved synchronized diving from a five meter platform and the other of which 'In Line' involved learning a choreographed line dance with a flash mob. Several teams attempted the former task, attempting to earn points from the judges to get their next clue, but Korey and Ivana had to switch tasks when Ivana received some serious back pain. This pain would follow her through subsequent legs. Doctors would later tell her (after the race) that she fractured three of her vertebrae.

16. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 9?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [5]

Answer: Adam and Andrea

After completing their Road Block, teams needed to drive to the Armed Forces runway at the 15 Wing Moose Jaw Base in Bushell Park. There, on the runway at hangar seven, teams found the ninth Pit Stop of the race. Sam and Paul once again checked in in first place (for their third consecutive win and fourth overall), this time despite being U-Turned. They ended up winning a trip for two to Costa Rica. On the other side of things, Adam and Andrea, the other U-Turned team, couldn't make up the ground and found themselves eliminated from the race.

17. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 7?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [4]

Answer: Andrea and Ebonie

After a couple of laughs at the comedy club, teams jumped into their cars and headed to the seventh Pit Stop of the race, the lookout at the Captain James Cook National Historic Site. There, Sam and Paul won the leg-- their second of the race-- and received a trip for two to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to celebrate. After completing a Speed Bump and then having to wait out the time at the Face Off, Andrea and Ebonie were unable to make up the time necessary to keep themselves out of last place. They ended up becoming the fifth team eliminated from the game, leaving only five.

18. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 5 in Thailand?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [3]

Answer: Zed and Shabbir

At the end of this fifth leg, teams were told to find the courtyard of the Wat Thewarat Kunchorn Worawihan Temple in Bangkok. Adam and Andrea, who won the Fast Forward clue, ended up jetting ahead of everyone else for their first victory of the race. They ended up receiving a trip for two to both Thailand and China courtesy of Sinorama Tours. At the end of the leg, Zed and Shabbir ended up getting eliminated when they repeatedly failed to complete the puppet show and then continued to struggle during the 'Shred It' Detour task. They placed seventh overall.

19. Which team was eliminated from the race in British Columbia in Leg 3?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [2]

Answer: Megan and Courtney

After the Detour, teams needed to drive themselves to Kokanee Creek Provincial Park, north of Nelson, and then search the beach for their third Pit Stop on the shores of Kootenay Lake. First place ended up going to son and dad Zed and Shabbir who ended up taking with them a trip for two to Chicago, Illinois. By the end of the leg, all three Express Passes ended up out of play with Karen and Bert and Kenneth and Ryan using theirs to skip the second Route Info and Detour tasks respectively (with the latter winning the $5,000 energy award) and Megan and Courtney coming in last without using theirs. They were eliminated in eighth place.

20. Which team was eliminated in British Columbia in the end of Leg 1?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [1]

Answer: Aaron and Deb

After completing the Detour, teams were told to head to the first Pit Stop of the race at the VanDusen Botanical Garden in Vancouver, but to find it they would need to navigate their way to the center of a hedge maze. Kenneth and Ryan blazed through the tasks and arrived in first place, taking the victory and winning a trip for two to Barcelona, Spain. While Andrea and Ebonie had a two hour penalty to wait out, they arrived second and only dropped down to seventh as a result of the delay. In the end, mother and son team Aaron and Deb were last to hit the mat and were eliminated.

21. How many teams were U-Turned after completing their Detour task in Ottawa in Leg 6?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race Canada 5"

Answer: Two

In Leg 6, teams celebrated the arts in Ottawa, taking on one of two tasks for their Detour. In 'Tiptoe Through the Tulips', teams headed to Commissioner's Park to build a cart and recreate a colourful tulip display containing ten different types of tulip to get their next clue. All six teams opted to take on this challenge. In 'Get the Picture', teams were asked to head to the Canada Council Art Bank to locate and take photos of ten different works of art in the storage walls there. Kenneth and Ryan were U-Turned by Sam and Paul while Andrea and Ebonie were U-Turned by Korey and Ivana. In both cases, the U-Turned teams had to complete the latter task.

22. In Leg 10, teams headed to Sault Ste. Marie, a city in which province?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [5]

Answer: Ontario

The beginning of Leg 10 saw the final four teams ripping open their clues in Regina, Saskatchewan's Victoria Park. Their next destination, as they learned, was Sault Ste. Marie, part of the Canadian Shiled between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Upon landing, they needed to catch a ride on the train at the Agawa Canyon Railway and participate in a Canada 150 Challenge, memorizing the names of fourteen paintings by the Group of Seven based on critiques of the works and identifying them in another car. If they got them right, they could disembark at the next stop or, else, take another trip around on the tracks.

23. Teams flew to what Central American nation in Leg 8?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [4]

Answer: Panama

Leaving Corner Brook City Hall late at night, the remaining five teams were given a clue instructing them to fly to Panama City, Panama for Leg 8, five thousand kilometers south from Newfoundland. This flight would take teams from Deer Lake to Toronto and then onward to Panama City. Upon touching down in Central America, teams had to take a cab to the Biomuseo where they would need to search through the exhibits for a white wolf statue. Under this would be an unmarked box containing their next clue.

24. Leg 6 of the race took teams back to Canada, flying them to what province?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [3]

Answer: Ontario

In Leg 6, teams were told to return to Canada, stopping in at the nation's capital-- Ottawa, Ontario. To get there, teams needed to fly from Bangkok, Thailand and then through Hong Kong and Toronto. Upon landing in Ottawa, the teams needed to head to Ottawa's City Hall to meet the mayor, Jim Watson, who would give them their next clue in front of the Ottawa 2017 Cauldron. Following this, teams headed to Hog's Back Falls to pick up their vehicle for this leg of the race-- a 'True North Edition' 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. But to get it, teams needed to park a series of Chevrolet vehicles using surround-vision technology to spell out a letter in the word CANADA.

25. In Leg 4, teams flew to what international city?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [2]

Answer: Beijing

Leg 4 began with a whirlwind of travel. Heading out from Nelson, B.C., teams flew from Castlegar to Vancouver, B.C. to visit Sinorama Tours in Richmond. There, picking up a travel package, they were told they would be going to Beijing, China and that their first task would be at the Juyong Pass on the Great Wall of China. Once there, thousands of kilometers away, teams needed to dress as tour guides and perform a tour of that portion of the Great Wall in English, French, and Mandarin to receive their next clue.

26. The tasks of Leg 2 took place in what province?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [1]

Answer: Alberta

Beginning their second leg of the race, teams were told to head to Fort McMurray in Northern Alberta departing from their first Pit Stop in Vancouver, British Columbia and catching a flight fifteen hundred kilometers northeast. This leg of the race took place less than a year after the end of the massive FortMcMurray wildfires, which wiped out many of the buildings in the area. Teams were also told to expect an opportunity to locate Express Passes. Upon arriving in Fort McMurray, teams were told to locate 2017 Chevrolet Silverados parked in the airport in Alberta; they would contain their next clue.

27. In which province did teams complete Leg 7's 'Family Tree' and 'Find Your Dory' Detour options?

From Quiz Detours of "The Amazing Race Canada 5"

Answer: Newfoundland and Labrador

Leg 7 sent teams to Western Newfoundland, specifically to the regions in and around Corner Brook. In the Detour task, teams partook in activities in Gros Morne National Park, known for being a landing spot for Viking explorers hundreds of years ago. In 'Family Tree', Adam and Andrea and Karen and Bert celebrated just that, memorizing Norse Gods and placing them on a complex family tree. In 'Find Your Dory', the remaining four teams paddled dory boats through Bonne Bay, searching the shorelines for lobster traps containing their next clue.

28. During the Detour in Leg 10 (in Sault Ste. Marie), teams could choose to work with which animals?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [5]

Answer: Alpacas

After riding the rails, teams found the final Detour task of the race, a choice between 'Alpac-It' and 'I'll Cast It'. Sam and Paul and Kenneth and Ryan completed the former task, which involved heading to a local farm and taking a couple of alpacas on an obstacle course. If they could beat the clock and make it to the end without knocking over any obstacles they could get their clue. Karen and Bert and Korey and Ivana completed 'I'll Cast It' instead, in which they headed out into a lake and, once waist-deep, tested their fly-fishing prowess by casting into three marked targets.

29. In the eighth leg of the race, which team member did not complete the dress pattern matching Road Block?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [4]

Answer: Bert

After visiting the Biomuseo, teams needed to take a cab to Casco Viejo where, at Paseo Esteban Huertas on the seawall, they received a Road Block task specifically looking for someone who was 'ready to meet their match'. For this task, the selected participant had to pick a fabric design and head out into the streets of Casco Viejo to find one Kuna woman wearing that pattern as her mola. If they could find the match, they could bring the woman back to the original stall and get their next clue. Karen, Adam, Paul, Ryan, and Korey completed this task.

30. At a Canadian Embassy in Leg 4, teams encountered people playing which sport?

From Quiz "The Amazing Race Canada 5" [2]

Answer: Hockey

Following their impromptu tour of the Great Wall, teams needed to hop back into taxis and make their way back into Beijing proper.
