"The Simpsons" began as a series of shorts produced for "The Tracey Ullman Show", which ran for three years and was hosted by comedian Tracy Ullman. Before "The Simpsons" existed as a series, they were shorts and segments aired during Ullman's show. The appearance of the original Simpson family is very different compared to what we know and see today. The name of the episode is a reference to the 1962 movie "Days of Wine and Roses". The episode was written by voice actor Dan Castellaneta and his wife, Deb Lacusta.
