"The Simpsons" began as a series of shorts produced for "The Tracey Ullman Show", which ran for three years and was hosted by comedian Tracy Ullman. Before "The Simpsons" existed as a series, they were shorts and segments aired during Ullman's show. The appearance of the original Simpson family is very different compared to what we know and see today.

The name of the episode is a reference to the 1962 movie "Days of Wine and Roses". The episode was written by voice actor Dan Castellaneta and his wife, Deb Lacusta.

Answer: Cardboard tubes to install in the bathroom

The cardboard tubes are actually collected by Cletus and his wife, who think the tubes are very useful for their bathroom's sewage system. Meanwhile, Homer and Bart collect from the trash a pacifier covered in a disgusting liquid, as well as a "My Little Pony" blanket belonging to Milhouse's mother.

They agree that Milhouse will pay a lot to get it back, and that they would send it piece by piece. They also get a bra that Homer wears arguing it is a "muscle shirt", Italian hair from a barber shop which Homer uses as a wig and mustache, and a tiki mask from a Hawaiian restaurant, which Homer later uses at home to scare Flanders.

Answer: Lisa

Homer tells Barney he threw him a party at his home, and they show him the tape that proves it. Marge even wrote a poem for Barney! He then discusses with Lisa that upon death, there would be "a planet for the French, a planet for the Chinese, and everyone would live happily". When Lisa tells him he is making her uncomfortable, he replies that's not true!

Answer: Getting ready to go to the market dressed as Marge

In a hilarious scene, Barney is seen walking down the stairs, dressed up as Marge, letting the children know he would be leaving soon. Although Homer astonishingly confuses him with Marge at first, he knows it's Barney when he drinks a can of beer. Barney then trips and falls, breaking an alcohol bottle in the process, and licking it from the carpet. Even though the dog tries to get some alcohol too, Barney scares him away!

Answer: A police car door

Barney notices a police car door handcuffed to his hand, and his friends tell him he's had it for a long time. Carl gives him papers labeled with "I'm deeply sorry for", so he can use them the morning after getting drunk. Moe gifts Barney helicopter lessons, doubting he could get something from them.

Answer: Moe's Tavern

Barney throws away all of his alcohol bottles, as well as a picture in the "Duff" brewery where employees hold a banner that reads "Thank you Barney". However, after he leaves his home through a pole, he gets to Moe's Tavern and orders a beer! He however resists the temptation, and asks Homer to help him out, and he agrees... after finishing his beer.

Answer: The Teletubbies

Lisa, Bart and Maggie were watching "The Teletubbies", a British show that ran from 1997 to 2001. The commercial showed the "Springfield Bell" looking for a new cover, and announcing it would award the winner with the best picture a mystery gift. Bart and Lisa rush to get a camera, and Bart starts bouncing the camera, noting how resistant it is. Lisa argues it wouldn't be hard to top the current picture of the phonebook's cover, which is Mr. Burns' face.

Answer: Newspapers over the urinals

At the tavern, Moe tries to turn Homer into a "new Barney", since "every bar needs a drunk with style". He dances for hours only because "he didn't want to lose their respect!" The day after that, Barney flies to Homer's house, who hops into the helicopter.

They talk about how Moe installed "modern" newspapers over the urinals, so people have something to read in the bathroom. Barney reflects on how much time he lost at "Moe's", although Homer gets mad because Barney doesn't want to keep drinking.

Answer: Nelson

Bart and Lisa try to take a picture of a nest of birds in Jebediah Springfield's statue, and of celebrity Rainier Wolfcastle eating hot dogs. After that, they photograph dogs while playing poker, but Nelson peeks through the window and takes the picture seconds before Lisa can do so. Bart suggests pouring spaghetti over Maggie's head, but Lisa rejects the idea.

Answer: Coffee

Homer falls from the helicopter but manages to rescue both Bart and Lisa while Barney drives. Bart takes advantage of the situation and photographs the burning Mount Springfield. Marge points out that their picture got featured in the phonebook's cover, but it wasn't the fire's photo, but Bart and Lisa when they were little, sitting naked in the toilet! They got the bicycle either way.

Homer and Barney sit down in the park, and Homer recognizes Barney's efforts to overcome his alcohol addiction. However, Barney is seen drinking several coffee cups very quickly. The episode closes with Moe standing by his new coffee shop, refusing to lose a customer like Barney.
