Their grandmother Deanna never appeared during the season, having been killed before the brothers were born, and unlike Samuel, not getting resurrected during the season. They found out later in the episode that Samuel was working for Crowley.

There was no demon or shapeshifter in this episode, although Dean had hallucinations of Azazel while poisoned by the djinn and Sam did contact his brother again for help with a creature that turned out to be a shapeshifter in "Two and a Half Men".

This reference worked on two levels - first, George Hamilton is known for his tan; and second, the actor played Count Dracula in the movie "Love at First Bite."

The character died from wounds inflicted by Crowley and Castiel in "The Man Who Knew Too Much".

The Winchesters did not confirm their suspicions until "The Man Who Would Be King", when Castiel slipped and revealed he had been spying on them.

They came across Samuel and Gwen, and while being possessed by an evil wormlike thing, Dean shot Gwen. Samuel was also killed in this episode...twice, since Sam killed him and then he was electrocuted while also possessed by the worm. Bobby too was possessed by it and killed Rufus.
