The new Baroness wants to have dinner with them on what would have been the Baron's birthday because they were the last to see him. Lafiel is responsible for the Baron's death, which makes Jinto nervous about the dinner. The new Baroness Febdash is Lafiel's battle commander and makes it clear that she desires no revenge for the death of Klowal. However, she is annoyed about having to rule her new, desolate barony.

As Abriels are royalty, they aren't supposed to show favoritism. If they cried for one person's plight, they would have to do it for everyone, which is impractical. Lafiel's father taught her to keep her tears inside. Lafiel cries at least twice over these anime series: in "Crest of the Stars" when she finds out her mother died in the attack on the Gosroth, and at the end of this series when she finds Jinto, starved and almost dead. Abh love insulting each other--it's practically an art form. As revealed in "Banner of the Stars", Abh can't get drunk from drinking alcohol.

The Bebaus family is known for producing brilliant minds as well as insane ones, sometimes in the same person. Two major characters from this family are Nereis and Nefee, identical twins. Lafiel needs more time to evacuate the planet, so she asks Spoor to hold off United Mankind. She doesn't want to waste the lives of her fleet protecting prisoners, so tries to stall for time by asking for more time for her forces to retreat, constantly revising how much time she needs. The negotiations take over an hour, which combined with the two hours given her, still aren't quite enough time for Lafiel. Spoor's forces are nearly wiped out.

Two players, connected with an elastic cord around one wrist, launch themselves at each other, trying to knock the lance out of the other's hand. Lafiel thinks of this game while in battle; she never lost at jousting, so she doesn't want to lose the battle.

Food is taken very seriously. Samson cooks food for Jinto, joking that he doesn't think Jinto would be so rude as to not show up for a meal cooked by a friend. It's his way to make Lafiel feel positive about their chances of finding Jinto alive.

He feels sticky and decides to have a bath. He also thinks that being in a bathtub is a suitable place to die. This happens right after his brother says he'd hoped to see some spectacular insanity. When he returns to the bridge afterward, Nereis's only complaint is that the water kept splashing his face. He must not mind it much, as he's shown having another battle bath at the beginning of the next series, "Banner of the Stars II".

Lafiel decides to take a break from the Star Forces to return to Jinto's home planet to recapture the Hyde system, which revolted against the Abh Empire at the end of "Crest of the Stars". The story's told in the original novels, as well as the OVA episodes "Banner of the Stars III".
