Daphne still had a tiny portion of her hearing, which explained why she wore hearing aids, and could read lips extremely well. Actress Katie LeClerc played Daphne, who herself started going deaf from an illness. She does not actually have the affected deaf accent when she speaks, but added it to make Daphne more realistic.

Lauren starred on "Gilmore Girls" for several seasons, and went on to spend several seasons on "Parenthood".

Wilke found out the truth first and kept it to himself. Then, Daphne found out from Wilke and kept it to herself. Finally, Emmett revealed the truth to Bay at the Carlton Prom. The season one winter finale ended on that note.
