Daphne still had a tiny portion of her hearing, which explained why she wore hearing aids, and could read lips extremely well. Actress Katie LeClerc played Daphne, who herself started going deaf from an illness.

She does not actually have the affected deaf accent when she speaks, but added it to make Daphne more realistic.

When Bay went in search for her biological father, Angelo, she found a guitar pick inside his old car. Emmett then told Bay that Regina was particularly protective of an old guitar case she owned. Bay passed this on to Daphne, who figured out that the three digit code was the numerical equivalent of Bay's name on a telephone key pad.

Inside the case, Daphne found many pictures of Bay from different time frames. Regina found out about the switch after Angelo left her. She hired a detective to find out what happened to her real daughter, after her own DNA test revealed that Daphne was not her or Angelo's child.

Tyler revealed that he'd joined the military. At age nineteen, and with little prospects, Tyler had decided to enlist without telling Bay or Daphne. Regina explained that many young men from their old neighborhood would do this for their future. Bay was crushed that he was leaving, but in the end they parted as friends.

This opened the way for Bay and Emmett to grow closer. Blair Redford played Ty. He went on to star in the TV series "The Lying Game", another ABC Family original series. Constance Marie played Regina Vasquez.

Wilke explained that Guitar Face was a name his mom had come up with to explain the look on his face while he played. Angelo was first known as the guy that left Daphne when she became deaf. It was later explained that Regina had some part in his leaving. Yes, he did not believe her when she swore to have never cheated on him, and did his own DNA test. The test proved he was not Daphne's biological father.

This made Regina realize something was wrong, which lead to her own test. She told Angelo that if he couldn't trust her, that he should just leave. So, he did. Bay searched for him unsuccessfully with Emmett's help, but with none from Regina or Daphne. But, it was an article he read that brought Angelo back to town. Angelo revealed to John Kennish that he knew the nurse on staff at the hospital had been on duty for 48 hours straight.

This could help John and Angelo win money from a lawsuit.

Emmett's mother, Melody, was a guidance counselor and basketball coach at Carlton. Also in season one, Daphne took at class at Toby and Bay's private school, Buckner Hall, and John coached basketball at Carlton as well. Marlee Matlin played Emmett's mother Melody. Melody was not fond of Emmett and Bay's romance.

Nurse Munoz claimed to have been on duty 48 hours straight the night the girls were born. She told Kathryn she was not completely sure she had switched the babies, but that it was possible. She had distinct memories from that night that convinced Kathryn she had been there. Unfortunately, she was fired from her job after joining the lawsuit, which led to Kathryn to giving her money. That act tainted her as a witness.

Justina played Vanessa Diaz on HBO's "Six Feet Under". The incorrect choices are all roles played by actress Lauren Graham. Lauren starred on "Gilmore Girls" for several seasons, and went on to spend several seasons on "Parenthood".

Though Daphne had gone from Carlton to Buckner, and back again, she did not totally relish her spotlight position as deaf role model. Families of deaf children came from all over to watch their game. At the end of the game, all Simone had to do was dribble out the clock, but she took a shot and missed it. Daphne rebounded and Simone fouled her. That gave Daphne two free throw attempts, and she hit them both. Carlton won by one point. This was episode 20, "Game On".
Maiara Walsh played Simone. She also played Ana Solis, Carlos' niece, on "Desperate Housewives".

Emmett and Simone slept together after the basketball play-off game. Simone was feeling poorly at having lost the game for Buckner, though I think she fouled Daphne on purpose. Emmett was mad at Bay for helping Melody get full custody from his father.

He hurt his hand and Simone offered him alcohol and sympathy. That led to a supposedly drunken sexual encounter. Wilke found out the truth first and kept it to himself. Then, Daphne found out from Wilke and kept it to herself. Finally, Emmett revealed the truth to Bay at the Carlton Prom.

The season one winter finale ended on that note.

After having been missing for several episodes, Angelo was finally discovered in the custody of ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He needed an immigration lawyer, and Regina told him she'd look into it for him. When Bay found out where he was, she told Emmett. Emmett suggested to her that they go there, so Bay could visit Angelo before he was possibly deported.

They rode over there on Emmett's newly restored motorcycle. Then, they were able to go the dance and enjoy it. Daphne had invited her new pal Travis after Wilke bailed on her, but then Wilke showed up all ready to go last minute. So, the three of them rode together. Actor Ryan Lane played Travis.

In episode 23, "This Is the Color of My Dreams", Bay came back to town after spending time away for the summer. This episode aired as a season one episode, six months after episode 22, "Venus, Cupid, Folly, and Time". Regina felt forced to marry Angelo in this episode as well, so he would not be departed to Italy.

This placed a crimp in her relationship with Patrick, and even more so when she had to allow him to move into her place in episode 24, "The Intruder". Bay's relationship with Alex was short-lived, as she was still hung up on Emmett.
