Waiting For God Trivia Questions

1. Although Jane had been in love with Harvey for a long time, he did not return her affection. He was actively trying to find a wife elsewhere, but romance was not foremost in his mind. What was Harvey's motivation?

From Quiz
"Waiting for God" - "Two Nasty Children"

Answer: He wanted to advance his social position.

Harvey was completely self-absorbed and contemptuous of Jane's love for him. More than anything, Harvey wanted to be accepted by the golf club set and he knew he would not achieve this through marriage to Jane. In a later episode, he became engaged to another woman and went to great lengths to fabricate a proper family history to impress his intended.

2. Diana was not very impressed with her new neighbour, Tom, when he arrived at Bayview. What event changed her mind?

From Quiz Bayview Awaits

Answer: He organised opposition to the food

Diana was to have a five-season-long feud with the gardening staff, but it was Tom who flattened Harvey Baines' car, and at the very end of the series, almost does a bungee jump. It was is opposition to the food being served which gains admiration from Diana in the first episode.

3. Diana, Tom and Jane were stunned to witness Harvey fall to the ground after being hit by an angry woman. The woman then drove away in her car. According to Jane, who was this woman?

From Quiz "Waiting for God" - "Two Nasty Children"

Answer: A Lithuanian circus performer

Jane was convinced that she would make the best wife for Harvey even though he frequently humiliated her in public. Told by Tom that Harvey liked only beautiful women, she attempted a makeover appearing in the dining room frightfully dressed with garish make-up. Harvey told her she looked hideous. However, he eventually came around because they got married in the final episode of the series.

4. Occasionally someone new came to Bayview and stirred things up a bit. One new resident, Daisy, seemed to be taking Diana's place as lead-resident. What was the final straw as far as Tom was concerned?

From Quiz Bayview Awaits

Answer: Daisy rearranged the tables in the dining room

Tom and Diana were having a few problems at this time, and Diana had put up a bamboo divider across their shared veranda space. It was only after Basil had spoken to Tom about losing either Daisy or Diana that Tom took action and organised a revolt in the dining room about the changes the (relatively) new resident had made.

5. What was Bournemouth Mon Amour?

From Quiz "Waiting for God" - "Two Nasty Children"

Answer: A dating agency

Jane told Harvey that he could find a better woman than the one he had been dating. No doubt she had herself in mind. She recommended that he consult this dating agency to help him in his quest.

6. Marion Ballard, Geoffrey's wife left home. Geoffrey needed someone to take care of his children so that he could go to work. What was Geoffrey's occupation?

From Quiz "Waiting for God" - "Two Nasty Children"

Answer: A cheese salesman

Marion was an alcoholic, promiscuous and mentally unstable. She and Geoffrey had a turbulent relationship yet Geoffrey seemed to love her. In order to win her approval, in one episode he changed his entire persona to become a macho member of Hell's Angels called "Fat Boy Higgins."

7. After the vicar lost it during a funeral, he confided in Tom and Diana that he was having a crisis of faith. Who eventually restored this troubled man back to life - if not the church?

From Quiz Bayview Awaits

Answer: Marion Ballard, Tom's daughter-in-law

All well and good, but Marion was an alcoholic pill-popping nymphomaniac who enticed the vicar to Wales with her. Throughout the series Marion had some wonderful scenes, not least of which was the one when she lay on the bonnet of Geoffrey's car in a drunken state and Geoffrey shouted at the impatient men in the line of cars behind. To a man they all listened to his woes, then got back into their cars to wait quietly.

8. Tom was visited by an angry Geoffrey who accused him of having ruined his life. How does Geoffrey justify this accusation?

From Quiz "Waiting for God" - "Two Nasty Children"

Answer: Tom had introduced Marion to the vicar.

Despite the fact that Marion hated both Tom and Diana and they, in turn, disapproved of her scandalous lifestyle, they were concerned for her welfare. For instance, Tom was successful in securing a beauty salon franchise for Marion at no cost to her, thus enabling her to use her talents in a business of her own.

9. After Tom and Diana took an extra step in their relationship, and stunned the whole of Bayview by waking up in the same (single) bed, they decided to go on a holiday together. What holiday did they take?

From Quiz Bayview Awaits

Answer: A journey on the Orient Express

In a later episode Tom was conned by Marion and a medium into believeing that his dead wife is unhappy with his relationship with Diana. To prove that this was a scam, Diana fed a trap in describing events of this trip for the medium to claim to be part of Tom's honeymoon.

10. What did Diana do when the local authority cut the spending on adult education classes in the arts?

From Quiz Bayview Awaits

Answer: She arranged for a painting class to be held in Bayview

Diana, being Diana, had to take it one step further, and she publicly humiliated Harvey at the same time, stripping him naked during an inspection. The next episode saw him in an institution recovering from a nervous breakdown and for once Diana found herself without support for her actions.

11. Harvey asked Tom to do him the favor of going to an outdoor restaurant to see the date he had arranged to meet. Tom was to let the woman know that Harvey would not be coming. How would Tom be able to identify the woman?

From Quiz "Waiting for God" - "Two Nasty Children"

Answer: She would be wearing a white carnation.

Tom saw Jane seated at a table, but he did not know that she was the person he was supposed to meet. Indiscreetly, Tom told Jane that Harvey was not the man for her and that he had made some uncomplimentary remarks about her. At that point, Harvey drove up in a car with another woman. When this woman heard how Harvey had treated Jane, she no longer wanted to be with him and pushed him out of the car.

12. When Diana heard of Tom's experience with the children, she offered to take over the chore of looking after them. They insulted her, but she was determined to rein them in. What did Diana do to gain control of Skye and Tarquin?

From Quiz "Waiting for God" - "Two Nasty Children"

Answer: She handcuffed them together.

Diana tried to shock the children into mending their ways. She insisted that they call her "Miss Trent" and told them that she was the wicked witch of their worst nightmares. She demanded that they show respect for their grandfather and reminded them of how much they could learn from older people.

13. Jane was in love with Harvey from the very first episode, even though he did not return her devotion until the very end of the fifth series. What was the thing he said to her most often?

From Quiz Bayview Awaits

Answer: "Jane, you're touching me."

...and Jane would leap back, crushed. However, in the last series Harvey sees her in a new light and even goes as far as becomming a priest through a postal service to prove his worth to her.

14. Tom sometimes escaped into a fantasy world, imagining himself to be at places other than at Bayview. What imaginary trip did Tom take in this episode?

From Quiz "Waiting for God" - "Two Nasty Children"

Answer: He went big game fishing with Ernest Hemmingway in Kenya.

Tom seemed to use his fantasies to avoid conflicts and troublesome people. He removed himself to "another plane" when he did not want to see unwelcome visitors, for example. His disengagement served his purposes as he was often able to get the better of people who took him for a fool. For instance, he foiled all of Harvey's many attempts to have Diana removed from Bayview.

15. Who was 'Fat Boy'?

From Quiz Bayview Awaits

Answer: Geoffrey

Geoffrey changed his persona into a Hells Angel to get his wife back again, but it backfires on him when he becomes Fat Boy for a time. Eventually even Marion wants the boring Geoffrey back again!

16. How do we know that Diana failed in her effort to bring about lasting change in the children's behaviour?

From Quiz "Waiting for God" - "Two Nasty Children"

Answer: They handcuffed her with her own handcuffs.

On his return, Geoffrey had to release Diana from the handcuffs. Skye and Tarquin pretended that they wanted them as souvenirs when all along their intention was to use them against her. These children were incorrigible. Their parents were not good role models; had never set limits or imposed consequences for their bad behaviour. As stern as Diana was with them, their transformation could not be accomplished in one day.

17. The final episode sees a double wedding ceremony. What was the outcome?

From Quiz Bayview Awaits

Answer: Harvey married Jane

After conning Diana into walking down the aisle (he threatened to do a bungee jump), Tom was the one who actually stopped the ceremony, much to Diana's relief. The series ended with Harvey and Jane getting married, something which would have been considered highly unlikely throughout the whole series of 'Waiting For God'.
