In 1918, while on an undercover assignment for the French intelligence, Indy fell in love with Giulietta, a beautiful local girl with a very traditional Italian family. One day when he visited her at home, he came to realize that he was not the only one vying for her affection. The other man in Giulietta's life turned out to be Indy's pal, Ernest "Ernie" Hemingway, who drove an ambulance for wounded soldiers. Endeavoring to outdo each other, the two love-sick boys did some outrageous things trying to win her heart. In the end, Giulietta dumped them both for a long-time family friend named Alfredo. Indy and Ernie patched things up in a hospital where they were being treated for wounds from a surprise German air raid. They made a pact that they would never fall in love with the same girl again.

Indy found her to be a very charming person, even though she was old enough to be his mother. The two formed a close bond as they traveled together, but came to the realization that a relationship would never work out, and after their adventure sadly went their separate ways.

The recruiting officer caught on to this right away, but he signed him up anyway. When they left the recruiting office, Remi told Indy he shouldn't have done it because the Belgian army would take anybody.

However, as their journey progressed, they became very fond of each other.

He and his friend Remi found him on the battle front in the middle of the firing going back and forth between the French and Germans. He followed the man to the German line, only to see him killed a few seconds later by a German who searched for something on the body. Indy and Remi discovered that he was looking for a treasure map, and after the war decided to take the map and search for a very valuable diamond called the 'Eye of the Peacock'. Unfortunately, after searching in vain, Indy wanted to quit and go home to New Jersey, and in so doing, disappointed poor Remi, who had his heart set on keeping up the search.

When Indy and Miss Seymour visited the Pyramids of Giza one day, their guide rode off with their camels and left them both stranded. Luckily, Ned Lawrence (as Indy calls him) happened to be traveling by on a bicycle and helped them build a fire and stayed with them for the night. Ned invited them on a dig with Howard Carter after telling Indy fascinating stories of archaeology and mummies. While on the dig, they excavated the tomb of Kha, a VIP to an Egyptian Pharoah. During their stay, a murder took place, and Ned and Indy began an investigation to discover the killer. After the two parted, they continued to keep in touch through letters.

Indy got a temporary job working for the U.S. Embassy in Paris as a translator. While in Paris for the peace talks, he ran into his old friend E.T. "Ned" Lawrence, who was there with the Arabian leader King Faisal to ask the League of Nations (LON) to fulfill their promise to make a nation for the Arabs. Ned was outraged that the LON decided not to give them all the land that was originally promised them and left Paris returning home to England disappointed. Indy was offered a permanent position with the embassy, but turned it down and returned back to America where he planned to go to college.

In Morocco, Indy befriended a slave boy named Omar, who accompanied Indy on his journeys through the country. They learned of a man who was beheaded for his disrespect for the Sultan and his head was displayed in the marketplace as an example. Disobeying his parents, Indy convinced Omar to go with him to see the dead man's head. While in the marketplace, they were both kidnapped and taken to the slave market to be sold. They were bought together for 500 rials by, luckily, a friend of Indy's father's, who had tracked them down and found them.

When Indy arrived home, his father, a college professor, pulled some strings for him to attend Princeton. Obviously, his father was not happy when Indy told him that he wanted to go to Chicago. After much heated arguing, the two parted ways with no reconciliation.

It led them to a run in with the mafia, and when taking the case to the police, they found that there was not a cop in town who was brave enough to deal with the clean up.

Indy was assigned to take photos of German positions from the air. He was sent to the famous American Escadrille airfield and flew as a passenger with them when they went out on missions. During his time with the Escadrille, Indy's plane was shot down and he was taken captive by none other than the Red Baron himself, Manfred von Richtofen, who invited Indy to dine with him. Indy then narrowly escaped being made a prisoner again and was picked up by one of the Escadrille pilots who flew him to safety.

Indy followed the band to different clubs where they played jazz and blues, including a speak easy. On one occasion, Sydney took Indy to a segregated club where he met Louis Armstrong.

So excited, in fact, that some of them decided to take matters into their own hands by encouraging a march through the city streets. Not heeding Indy's plead to stay home, they marched anyway, costing the needless loss of several lives including Sergei, one of Indy's best friends.

All of the girls listed were love interests for Indy throughout his young life, but Sophie was the first girl to win his heart. She was the daughter of Archduke Francis Ferdinand - the same Archduke Ferdinand who would later be assassinated, marking the beginning of World War 1. Indy met Sophie when they took equestrian lessons in a class together. They spent one special day together ice skating. That is, until Sophie's governess and Miss Seymour found them and broke them up. Indy was heartbroken when he was told he could never see Sophie again. Finally, one night, he bravely went up to the Archduke's front gate and demanded to see the Archduke to ask for Sophie's hand in marriage. When he told Indy no, Indy sneaked through the palace and found Sophie's bedroom to tell her he was leaving and gave her a gift - a snowglobe with a boy and a girl ice skating. Sophie gave Indy a locket with her picture in it, which he kept with him and treasured for the rest of his life.

While on their journey, Indy and his father got into many scrapes. First, they got in the wrong cab. Then, they decided to take a dip in the sea only to find a herd of goats ate their clothes. They had to hitch-hike to the monastery, which was hundreds of feet high on a cliff. To get to the top of the cliff, they had to take an elevator made of wood with a rope and pulley system. When Indy and his father set out to leave the monastery, they boarded the elevator to go back down, and somehow the monk who was lowering them got hit in the head and was knocked unconscious, leaving the father and son stuck for almost an entire day in the dangling elevator two hundred feet from the ground. Even though Indy experienced these things, however, he did find time to learn about the ancient Greeks in association with politics, theatrics, philosophy and synergisms.

Although Harrison Ford did make a guest star appearance for the episode titled 'The Mystery of the Blues', George Hall was the main actor who portrayed Indy as an old man. The old Indy scenes were book-ended with each of the original episodes. William Hopkins played Major Eaton in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' and also had a small role as a Russian ballet producer in the Young Indiana Jones episode titled 'Espionage Escapades'. Although Clint Eastwood did not make an appearance in the series, he was offered the role of Indy's elder brother in the series for $10 million, but turned the part down. During the writing stage of production, George Lucas had another idea to film an episode that had to do with the crystal skulls which never came to fruition. Apparently, the idea still remained to produce Indiana Jones' latest adventure, 'The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'.

Indy was requested by his long time friend Ned Lawrence for a special mission. He was to travel to Beersheba, where the Turks and German forces occupied the only water wells within a hundred mile radius. The wells were wired with explosives to be used if the town was taken by the Allies. Indy was to go there and cut all the explosive wires so that the British troops could raid the town and have water after being deprived of it for three days of traveling to get there. His partner on the mission was a very beautiful Arab woman (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones) who posed as a spy for the Allies, and attempted to thwart Indy's plans. In the end, the British attack was successful, and Indy was able to stop a German officer (played by Daniel Craig) from destroying the very last well in the camp.

We learn this in the episode where Indy traveled through China with his mother and Miss Seymour. Sadly, little Susan did not live past infancy. While traveling, Indy became very ill and they had to stop at a farmer's home that was two miles away from the nearest village. Indy's mother sent Miss Seymour to fetch a modern doctor, who was in a larger village which was a three days' journey away. While awaiting their return, Indy became worse forcing his mother to fetch the local Chinese doctor, who arrived and administered acupuncture on him. Finally, the fever broke and Indy slowly got well. Indy's mother showed the farmer's family her thanks by paying the debt on their farm.
