Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the episode titled 'Tales of Innocence', Indy was involved in a love triangle along with which famous author?

Answer: Ernest Hemingway

In 1918, while on an undercover assignment for the French intelligence, Indy fell in love with Giulietta, a beautiful local girl with a very traditional Italian family. One day when he visited her at home, he came to realize that he was not the only one vying for her affection.

The other man in Giulietta's life turned out to be Indy's pal, Ernest "Ernie" Hemingway, who drove an ambulance for wounded soldiers. Endeavoring to outdo each other, the two love-sick boys did some outrageous things trying to win her heart.

In the end, Giulietta dumped them both for a long-time family friend named Alfredo. Indy and Ernie patched things up in a hospital where they were being treated for wounds from a surprise German air raid. They made a pact that they would never fall in love with the same girl again.
2. Where was Indy when he met Mrs. Edith Wharton, the novelist?

Answer: North Africa

After being nursed back to health in Italy, Indy was called to his next assignment in North Africa where he was to find the source of a supply of guns that had been either given or sold to local guerrillas who were terrorizing the villages in which the French had seized control over and making it extremely difficult to defend.

He did this under the pretense of escorting Mrs. Wharton through the country as she was doing humanitarian work. Indy found her to be a very charming person, even though she was old enough to be his mother.

The two formed a close bond as they traveled together, but came to the realization that a relationship would never work out, and after their adventure sadly went their separate ways.
3. How many different languages does Indy speak?

Answer: 27

We learn this when Indy was assigned to the American Intelligence Agency for a mission. The agent in charge, Agent Waters, did not seem to be too impressed by this achievement due to the fact that he spoke 32 different languages. Among the languages Indy knows are Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Czech, Greek, sign language, and, of course, English.
4. Where or how did Indy spend the last hour of World War I?

Answer: In no man's land in a field of battle

Indy's last assignment for the French Intelligence was to discover and capture a double agent working for the Germans. He and his friend Remi found him on the battle front in the middle of the firing going back and forth between the French and Germans.

The French officer in charge thought Indy's mission was unimportant because they would cease fire in an hour, but Indy was determined to get his man. He followed the man to the German line, only to see him killed a few seconds later by a German who searched for something on the body.

Indy and Remi discovered that he was looking for a treasure map, and after the war decided to take the map and search for a very valuable diamond called the 'Eye of the Peacock'. Unfortunately, after searching in vain, Indy wanted to quit and go home to New Jersey, and in so doing, disappointed poor Remi, who had his heart set on keeping up the search.
5. What was Indy's role during the peace talks of 1919 when the League of Nations was formed?

Answer: Translator

Indy got a temporary job working for the U.S. Embassy in Paris as a translator. While in Paris for the peace talks, he ran into his old friend E.T. "Ned" Lawrence, who was there with the Arabian leader King Faisal to ask the League of Nations (LON) to fulfill their promise to make a nation for the Arabs. Ned was outraged that the LON decided not to give them all the land that was originally promised them and left Paris returning home to England disappointed.

Indy was offered a permanent position with the embassy, but turned it down and returned back to America where he planned to go to college.
6. Where did Indy go to college to study archaeology?

Answer: University of Chicago

When Indy arrived home, his father, a college professor, pulled some strings for him to attend Princeton. Obviously, his father was not happy when Indy told him that he wanted to go to Chicago. After much heated arguing, the two parted ways with no reconciliation.
7. Who was Indy's roommate during his first year at college?

Answer: Elliot Ness

Indy shared a dorm room with the "world's youngest stuffy old fart" according to him. He and Elliot had nothing in common until the murder of Indy's boss, Mr. Colosimo, when the two of them, along with Ernie Hemingway, tried to solve the mystery of his death.

It led them to a run in with the mafia, and when taking the case to the police, they found that there was not a cop in town who was brave enough to deal with the clean up.
8. What was Indy's favorite type of music?

Answer: Jazz

While working as a waiter at Colosimo's, Indy made friends with Sydney, a clarinet player from New Orleans who performed with his jazz band at the restaurant. With their help, Indy learned to play jazz with a soprano saxophone while also dealing with the racial tensions of the time.

Indy followed the band to different clubs where they played jazz and blues, including a speak easy. On one occasion, Sydney took Indy to a segregated club where he met Louis Armstrong.
9. Which job did we NOT see Indy do for college money?

Answer: Coal miner

Indy worked as a lab assistant at Princeton the summer prior to leaving for school and as a waiter at Colosimo's during his first year. During summer break of 1920, a job took him to Hollywood where he did a stunt for a western film. As far as we know, he never was a coal miner.
10. What was the name of the actor who played the elderly version of Indy the most times in the series?

Answer: George Hall

Although Harrison Ford did make a guest star appearance for the episode titled 'The Mystery of the Blues', George Hall was the main actor who portrayed Indy as an old man. The old Indy scenes were book-ended with each of the original episodes. William Hopkins played Major Eaton in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' and also had a small role as a Russian ballet producer in the Young Indiana Jones episode titled 'Espionage Escapades'.

Although Clint Eastwood did not make an appearance in the series, he was offered the role of Indy's elder brother in the series for $10 million, but turned the part down. During the writing stage of production, George Lucas had another idea to film an episode that had to do with the crystal skulls which never came to fruition. Apparently, the idea still remained to produce Indiana Jones' latest adventure, 'The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull'.
