From Quiz "Bosses of "Skyward Sword""

Skyward Sword Trivia Questions

1. Perhaps the most important weapon in the game is Link's sword. After the completion of which dungeon does Link hold the Master Sword?

From Quiz
Weapons and Equippables of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Fire Sanctuary

Link goes through six different swords throughout the game (or at least that many versions). Starting with the Practice Sword in Skyloft at the start of the game, he receives the Goddess Sword from a pedestal in the statue of the goddess in the same city. Every time Link absorbs the flames from the fourth, fifth, and sixth dungeon, his sword upgrades. He receives the Goddess Longsword, Goddess White Sword, and the Master Sword. Finally, Link ends up with the True Master Sword when he travels back in time to the Sealed Temple of yesteryear. Regardless of which sword Link uses (save the Practice Sword), if he lifts it skyward he will magically power it up.

2. Link begins as a junior knight-in-training at the Knight Academy on Skyloft, a curious land suspended high above the clouds. The game starts as a large bird, known as a Loftwing, wakes Link from his slumber. Who is the owner of this blue avian?

From Quiz The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Answer: Zelda

The game begins on the day of the Wing Ceremony, an event which allows one junior knight-in-training to be promoted to a senior knight-in-training in Skyloft's Knight Academy. The winner of the ceremonial Loftwing race participates in the post-ceremony ritual with a representative of the goddesses. No prizes for guessing that this year, it's Zelda. Knowing Link has a tendency to sleep in, Zelda sends her Loftwing with a letter to wake Link up, which advises him to get in some last-minute training before the big event. However, Link's Loftwing is nowhere to be found. Fellow knight-in-training Groose and his pals Cawlin and Strich have imprisoned Link's rare Crimson Loftwing and so he must free it, with the help of the sparring master Eagus, who lends Link a training sword.

3. The fifth major dungeon of the game takes place on a pirate ship. What is the name of this Bokoblin-infested location where Link receives the Bow?

From Quiz Spelling It Out - "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Sandship

The Sandship is found after a lengthy ride around the Lanayru Sand Sea in a smaller dinghy alongside a robot captain. This trip will take you to the captain's old roost for a sea chart, the Shipyards, and the pirate hideout before heading out to the open 'sand sea' to locate the invisible dungeon. Once Link hops aboard he'll be able to navigate the insides of the ship (all the way up to the crow's nest) to find a Bow, open the boss door, fight the boss, Tentalus, and imbue his sword with the powers of Nayru's Flame. Like the earlier Mining Facility, the Sandship makes use of a stone that flips it back and forth between past and present; it's on the mast.

4. The very first mini-dungeon of the game is in Skyloft. Why do you enter the Waterfall Cavern?

From Quiz Dungeons of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: To search for your Loftwing

Somewhat of a starter dungeon, Link must visit the one-room Waterfall Cavern in Skyloft in order to locate his Crimson Loftwing. In order to access this area in Skyloft, Link must first obtain the Practice Sword, a blade found at the Knight Academy's Sparring Hall (in the back room). On the other side of the Waterfall Cavern you'll find your Loftwing and you can free him from a makeshift prison. The only enemies in the cave are Keese and Chuchus, so it shouldn't be too strenuous, even for a newer player.

5. What is the name of Link's hometown in this game?

From Quiz "Skyward Sword" - Some Basics

Answer: Skyloft

Skyloft is an island of land floating high above 'the surface'. A haven in the clouds, this area was suspended in the air by the Goddess, a figure who fought off evils and saved the world from complete annihilation many years ago. The game begins on the eve of the Wing Ceremony, a celebration which is dedicated in part to the performance of a ritual used to honour the Goddess. Skyloft is home to a bazaar, Link's friends and enemies, and several townspeople in need of errands to be run. Some of these people don't appear until you start unlocking some of the city's most interesting secrets.

6. In the beginning of the game, your character, who I shall henceforth call Link, has a nightmare about a giant creature. what is this creatures name?

From Quiz Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Answer: The Imprisoned

In the beginning of the game, there is a little scene with a girl and a giant blue bird. This bird wakes you from said nightmare, delivering a letter sent by said girl.

7. The Earth Temple introduces a new enemy into the game. It is very smart, blocking lots of your attacks. What is this creatures name?

From Quiz "Skyward Sword" Dungeons and Other Trivia

Answer: Lizalfos

Lizafos have one arm covered with rocks which they use to block some of your attacks. You need to defeat two of them to get the Bomb Bag, and another one blocking your way later on. If you time and aim your attacks right, or get in a fatal blow, you can defeat them pretty easily.

8. Who gives Link the Hylian Shield?

From Quiz Weapons and Equippables of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: The Thunder Dragon

Link can carry up to ten different shields in the game. Three of them can be purchased in the bazaar in Skyloft as you progress through the first three dungeons of the game, and each of them can be upgraded twice. The Hylian Shield, Link's traditional shield from earlier games, can be earned under special circumstances. If you visit the Thunder Dragon in Lanayru Gorge you can receive the Hylian Shield after eight rounds of battle. This shield will not break unlike other earlier shields; it's also larger than the others.

9. Circling above the grounds of Skyloft in his pedal-powered flying shop is which character, who has featured in a previous 'Zelda' title?

From Quiz The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Answer: Beedle

Beedle first appeared in 'The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker', with his small floating shop off the shore of Outset Island. In 'Skyward Sword', this incarnation of Beedle sells numerous wares which can help Link in his quest to rescue Zelda. However, to enter Beedle's shop, Link must first ring the large bell suspended below Beedle's flying shop, either by hitting it with a shot from the Slingshot, or loosing an arrow into it later in the game. Beedle will then hover, and release a rope which Link can grab on to. He'll be hoisted up and can enter the shop. If Link does buy something, Beedle will be grateful for the custom and allow Link to leave normally, but if Link doesn't make a purchase, Beedle will open a trapdoor just as Link leaves, complaining about wasting his time and the effort it takes to pedal fast enough to keep the shop hovering in one place.

10. Defeated by the Gust Bellows and Link's sword, what large enemy jumps around the room despite a lack of appendages?

From Quiz Spelling It Out - "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Armos

The Gust Bellows is key to defeating these large enemies. Although in earlier games, Armos were defeated using explosives and heavy weaponry (Megaton Hammer, anyone?) "Skyward Sword" reinvents this foe, placing a pinwheel on its top which requires that Link use the Gust Bellows. This will, in turn, open the front and back of an Armos, freezing it in place so that you can sword the two gems inside. One can be slashed, the other must be pierced since it's set deeper into the enemy. Because they require the Gust Bellows to be defeated, they, like Beamos, are first found in the Lanayru Mining Facility.

11. What is the name of the boss of the Earth Temple?

From Quiz Bosses of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Scaldera

Scaldera emerges from the roof of the boss chamber in the Earth Temple after the departure of (who else?) Ghirahim and begins to assault Link with fire, rocks, and lava. A creature made of these three substances, the key to winning this battle is blowing up Scaldera's outer shell with bombs (if you run out there are some at the top of the area's ramp along with heart flowers). When the weak point of the boss is exposed you can slash at it until Scaldera is defeated. To incapacitate the boss for a short time, you'll need to wait until it breathes in in preparation of a fire-shooting attack and toss a bomb into its mouth.

12. When does Link receive his green tunic?

From Quiz "Skyward Sword" - Some Basics

Answer: When he becomes a senior knight-in-training

Although Link is just a junior knight-in-training in the outset of the game, the first tasks completed during gameplay revolve around his graduation from junior into senior at the Skyloft Knight Academy which (like the "Legend of Zelda" series) is celebrating its twenty-fifth year anniversary. When Link comes in first during the Wing Ceremony and receives the Bird Statuette he'll receive his promotion and his standard green tunic. He'll actually receive a Practice Sword before this; he receives it from the Knight Commander in the Sparring Hall next to the academy.

13. When you start, there is a scene between a girl and a bird and she hands it a letter. What is the girl's name?

From Quiz Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Answer: Zelda

In the beginning of the game, Zelda is found giving a big blue bird a letter. It grabs it and then it takes off. It is seen later in Link's room, awakening him from a nightmare.

14. The Lanayru Mining Facility is the third dungeon in the game, but it is only revealed after you activate three things. What are these three things?

From Quiz "Skyward Sword" Dungeons and Other Trivia

Answer: Power Nodes

One of these nodes is very easily found behind a wall in the west of the desert. The other two are at the end of two different ancient warehouses. You must use Timeshift Stones, Ampilus shells, and Ampilus eggs to get to the end of these warehouses.

15. Link's Slingshot only upgrades once...into what new item?

From Quiz Weapons and Equippables of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Scattershot

The Slingshot is found by Link in Faron Woods, given to him by the Kikwi elder after he locates the other Kikwis in the forest. The Slingshot is Link's first long-range weapon, allowing him to hit enemies and switches from a distance. To upgrade, Link needs to spend fifty Rupees, two Dusk Relics, two Amber Relics, and three Jelly Blobs. Each shot from the Scattershot, when fully drawn back, will break into pieces, striking the enemy with more force than a single strike. Three types of seed satchels are also available and can be upgraded in the same way to be held in the Adventure Pouch.

16. What is the name of the female guardian who accompanies Zelda from dungeon to dungeon?

From Quiz Spelling It Out - "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Impa

Impa, who was also Zelda's guardian in "Ocarina of Time", saves Zelda when she plummets to the surface world and takes her along to complete her side of the journey. This involves traveling to each of the first three dungeons. Link will find both of them at each location (Faron Woods' springs, for example) and a short dialogue will be held. After completing the Lanayru Mining Facility, Link will witness Impa battling the Demon Lord, Ghirahim, before taking Zelda with her into another realm. Link will need to visit the Isle of Songs shortly thereafter in order to power up his sword and save Zelda once and for all.

17. Moldarach, the boss of Lanayru Mining Facility, will use which tactic in battle?

From Quiz Bosses of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Burrowing underground

Unlike earlier boss rooms, the final chamber in the Mining Facility is covered in deep sand, allowing the thousand-year arachnid, Moldarach, to burrow underground when the battle gets too heated. Using the Gust Bellows obtained in the dungeon, Link can unearth the boss and fight back-- this will likely also unearth smaller creatures known as Arachas, and they're annoying. Moldarach will fight with his tail (he's a scorpion) and two pincers though the pincers are usually the first to go. Before he goes underground, the pincers will be dealt with. After finishing the battle, the room will drain of sand and Link can head to the Temple of Time.

18. What temple do you go to first?

From Quiz Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Answer: Skyview Temple

After dropping from your home, you land in a forest-like area. After a bit of talking and task-doing, you arrive at Skyview Temple.

19. Between the Lanayru Mining Facility and the Ancient Cistern, you must fight a boss known as what?

From Quiz "Skyward Sword" Dungeons and Other Trivia

Answer: The Imprisoned

The Imprisoned is a very unique boss. When it starts walking you must either jump on its head to drive its spike in, or attack its eight "toes" to knock it over and drive its spike in. Note: this description refers to the first Imprisoned battle.

20. Which boss does Link do battle with in the second dungeon, the Earth Temple?

From Quiz The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Answer: Scaldera

The Earth Temple is a dangerous area filled with lava and a host of unpleasant creatures. Through the dungeon, however, Link will meet up with his allies, the Mogmas, who will try to help him as best they can. One will let Link keep his Bomb Bag after Link retrieves it from a pair of vicious Lizalfos. This Bomb Bag is this dungeon's Key Item, and, as is tradition, is instrumental to defeating the boss, Scaldera. Scaldera, as the name might suggest, is a huge ball of lava with a rocky outer casing protecting its weak point. During the fight, Link must first stun Scaldera with bombs, and then throw one into its mouth when it prepares to spit out huge fireballs. This will rip off some of its protective casing and briefly expose its weak point for Link to slash away at. Once it is defeated, Link can access the temple's Goddess Spring, but finds that Zelda isn't there, and has moved onwards to the Lanayru Desert, and to the Temple of Time.

21. What is the name of the spirit in your sword?

From Quiz Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Answer: Fi

After Zelda is kidnapped, Link awakens at night following a floating spirit. She leads him to a path that leads into the Statue of the Goddess, which is usually closed at night. Once you arrive, you draw the Goddess Sword, which is inhabited by a spirit sent by the goddess to help the chosen hero.

22. Where does the Beetle upgrade to the Hook Beetle?

From Quiz Weapons and Equippables of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Lanayru Desert

The Beetle is the item obtained in the very first dungeon of the game, Skyview Temple in the Faron Woods. Link can pilot this item through the key to hit switches, collect items, and break ropes. The Beetle is upgraded by a robot in the Lanayru Desert to feature hooks, allowing it to lift up bombs. After this, Link can upgrade the Beetle into the Quick Beetle and Tough Beetle which gives a boost to speed and time of use respectively. The Beetle can also be used as an exploratory tool; Link can use it to scout areas he can't reach. Some enemies are also scared of the Beetle (some Bokoblins, for example).

23. Which Key Item does Link find as he explores the decrepit and dangerous ruins of the Lanayru Mining Facility?

From Quiz The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Answer: Gust Bellows

The Gust Bellows is capable of manufacturing a constant blast of air, which can blow away dust and sand with ease. In the Mining Facility, there are piles of sand everywhere, hiding treasures, switches, and sometimes a few enemies. The Bellows come in handy when facing certain enemies, particularly Armos who, when blasted with air, reveal two weak points which Link must destroy with his sword. Of course, the Gust Bellows are also necessary when facing the dungeon's main boss, Moldarach. The giant scorpion burrows underneath the sand during parts of the battle, and in order to continue fighting, Link must blast away the sand around it and expose it. The beast will then jump back out and continue to attack. It can be dispatched by slashing the weak points on its claws and face.

24. In the Ancient Cistern, the final boss is Koloktos. This enemy has how many arms?

From Quiz Bosses of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Six

The guardian at the top of the Ancient Cistern, this boss means business. Fueled by darkness, Koloktos, the golden protector of Farore's Flame, will employ its six arms to swat at you and slash you with lengthy sabres. It's not very nice. Using the Whip, Link can pull apart the different arms and fight fire with fire, picking up the creature's large swords and destroying the other appendages with them. When Koloktos is on the ground, Link can destroy the cage surrounding its weak point (on its chest) and deal the final blows. Beating Koloktos will result in an upgraded sword and the ability to move on to the next dungeon.

25. What is the name of the dungeon found behind the waterfall at Lake Floria?

From Quiz Dungeons of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Ancient Cistern & The Ancient Cistern

After Link returns to Faron Woods and claims the Water Dragon's Scale from the Silent Realm he'll be able to explore a whole new area of the forest-- Lake Floria, where he'll meet an underwater species known as the Parellas and the Water Dragon herself. After a brief stop at the shrine behind Skyview Temple you'll be granted access to the Ancient Cistern, a water-themed temple which requires that Link swim and search for a new weapon, the Whip, before ascending to the top of the temple to fight Koloktos, a gold statue with six arms, six swords, and the tendency to swing all of these at you. Completing this dungeon, Link will imbue his sword with the power of Farore's Flame, upgrading his weapon to the Goddess' Longsword.

26. To reach the first temple, you must retrieve an item from the Kikwi Elder. What is this item?

From Quiz Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Answer: Slingshot

In Faron Woods, you talk to the Kikwi Elder, who says he knows where Zelda is, but you must find his missing Kikwi children. After you do so, he'll say he saw the girl go towards the temple and he gives you the Slingshot to make it there.

27. The Sandship is the fifth dungeon of the game where you get the last new item of the game. The item is required to fight Tentalus, this dungeon's boss. You must fight Scervo to get it. What is this mystery item?

From Quiz "Skyward Sword" Dungeons and Other Trivia

Answer: Bow

The bow can do a lot of damage to enemies. The bow is required to hit the Timeshift Stone on the mast many times throughout the dungeon. In fact, if you upgrade the bow to the Sacred Bow, it can take out most enemies in one shot.

28. In which region of the game does Link find a mine and a gorge?

From Quiz Spelling It Out - "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Lanayru

Lanayru is the final major area visited in the game (of the three areas on the surface). Once a huge sea, the land has wasted away into a desert. After completing the Earth Sanctuary Link will drop down near Lanayru Mine and head through to the desert proper to find the third dungeon, a Mining Facility. Later in the game, the fifth dungeon (the Sandship) can be found on the Lanayru Sand Sea, and a gorge can be found deeper into the area. Link will inevitably find ways to return the land to its verdant state, at least temporarily.

29. Although only a minor boss, what enemy must be fought in order for Link to obtain the Bow?

From Quiz Bosses of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Scervo

Reaching the Sandship in the middle of the Lanayru Sand Sea, Link will need to reach the passageway behind the locked door on the first floor in order to locate a Stalfos enemy, Scervo, who will face off against him on the gangplank at the bow of the ship. Battling on progressively smaller planks, Link will need to keep attempting to knock him off the front of the boat. Doing so will result in Link receiving the Bow, an item which will activate the Timeshift Stone on the ship's mast. An enemy known as Dreadfuse can be found in the Sky Keep near the end of the game. This battle is held on a shorter gangplank.

30. What boss is fought near the end of Link's trip aboard the Sandship?

From Quiz Dungeons of "Skyward Sword"

Answer: Tentalus

The Sandship is an invisible vessel floating upon the Lanayru Sand Sea and after a lengthy search for this massive watercraft, Link will stumble upon it with a few well-placed cannon shots, revealing it and allowing him to climb aboard. After obtaining the Bow from Scervo, the mini-boss of the stage, he'll be able to flip back and forth in time using a Timeshift Stone on the mast. At the end of the dungeon, he'll fight Tentalus, a large, tentacled creature from the depths, and ultimately he'll upgrade his sword using Naryu's Flame.
