Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Link begins as a junior knight-in-training at the Knight Academy on Skyloft, a curious land suspended high above the clouds. The game starts as a large bird, known as a Loftwing, wakes Link from his slumber. Who is the owner of this blue avian?

Answer: Zelda

The game begins on the day of the Wing Ceremony, an event which allows one junior knight-in-training to be promoted to a senior knight-in-training in Skyloft's Knight Academy. The winner of the ceremonial Loftwing race participates in the post-ceremony ritual with a representative of the goddesses. No prizes for guessing that this year, it's Zelda. Knowing Link has a tendency to sleep in, Zelda sends her Loftwing with a letter to wake Link up, which advises him to get in some last-minute training before the big event.

However, Link's Loftwing is nowhere to be found. Fellow knight-in-training Groose and his pals Cawlin and Strich have imprisoned Link's rare Crimson Loftwing and so he must free it, with the help of the sparring master Eagus, who lends Link a training sword.
2. Circling above the grounds of Skyloft in his pedal-powered flying shop is which character, who has featured in a previous 'Zelda' title?

Answer: Beedle

Beedle first appeared in 'The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker', with his small floating shop off the shore of Outset Island. In 'Skyward Sword', this incarnation of Beedle sells numerous wares which can help Link in his quest to rescue Zelda. However, to enter Beedle's shop, Link must first ring the large bell suspended below Beedle's flying shop, either by hitting it with a shot from the Slingshot, or loosing an arrow into it later in the game. Beedle will then hover, and release a rope which Link can grab on to.

He'll be hoisted up and can enter the shop. If Link does buy something, Beedle will be grateful for the custom and allow Link to leave normally, but if Link doesn't make a purchase, Beedle will open a trapdoor just as Link leaves, complaining about wasting his time and the effort it takes to pedal fast enough to keep the shop hovering in one place.
3. Link's adventure primarily takes place in three distinct areas on the surface of Hyrule, far below the clouds and the land of Skyloft. Which of these is not one of the three primary areas?

Answer: Ordon Lake

When Link descends from Skyloft to Hyrule, his first port of call is Faron Woods, a lush forest filled with many creatures, including the native Kikwis, a group of critters who aid Link by providing him with information about Zelda's last known whereabouts. At the heart of the forest stands the Great Tree, an enormous, hollowed-out tree which Link can enter later in the game when he gains the ability to swim underwater. The first dungeon of the adventure, the Skyview Temple, is located further into the woods in an area infested with Bokoblins. Link returns to Faron Woods later and takes a different path to Lake Floria, where he requests the help of the Water Dragon, who sends him into the fourth dungeon, the Ancient Cistern.

Before he reaches Faron Woods for the first time, however, he makes his way through the Sealed Grounds and meets an old woman inside the Sealed Temple, who is later revealed to be Impa, the representative of the goddesses who helps Zelda fulfill her role according to the legend. As Link arrives, however, an enormous monster known as the Imprisoned breaks free of its restraints and begins to make its way towards the Sealed Temple in the hopes of destroying it. Link must stop it by pushing its Sealing Spike back into his head, and subsequently back into the ground, where it may be restrained once more. The Imprisoned is fought three times during Link's quest, and is later revealed to be the future incarnation of Demise, a malevolent demon who was defeated in the past and imprisoned within the Sealed Grounds, thanks to the work of the Hero of Time.
4. Which boss does Link do battle with in the second dungeon, the Earth Temple?

Answer: Scaldera

The Earth Temple is a dangerous area filled with lava and a host of unpleasant creatures. Through the dungeon, however, Link will meet up with his allies, the Mogmas, who will try to help him as best they can. One will let Link keep his Bomb Bag after Link retrieves it from a pair of vicious Lizalfos.

This Bomb Bag is this dungeon's Key Item, and, as is tradition, is instrumental to defeating the boss, Scaldera. Scaldera, as the name might suggest, is a huge ball of lava with a rocky outer casing protecting its weak point. During the fight, Link must first stun Scaldera with bombs, and then throw one into its mouth when it prepares to spit out huge fireballs.

This will rip off some of its protective casing and briefly expose its weak point for Link to slash away at. Once it is defeated, Link can access the temple's Goddess Spring, but finds that Zelda isn't there, and has moved onwards to the Lanayru Desert, and to the Temple of Time.
5. Which Key Item does Link find as he explores the decrepit and dangerous ruins of the Lanayru Mining Facility?

Answer: Gust Bellows

The Gust Bellows is capable of manufacturing a constant blast of air, which can blow away dust and sand with ease. In the Mining Facility, there are piles of sand everywhere, hiding treasures, switches, and sometimes a few enemies. The Bellows come in handy when facing certain enemies, particularly Armos who, when blasted with air, reveal two weak points which Link must destroy with his sword. Of course, the Gust Bellows are also necessary when facing the dungeon's main boss, Moldarach.

The giant scorpion burrows underneath the sand during parts of the battle, and in order to continue fighting, Link must blast away the sand around it and expose it.

The beast will then jump back out and continue to attack. It can be dispatched by slashing the weak points on its claws and face.
6. During his quest, Link must appeal to the three mighty dragons of the land for their part of the Song of the Hero. Which of these dragons does not exist?

Answer: The Earth Dragon

The first of the three dragons that Link meets is Faron, the Water Dragon, who is recuperating at Lake Floria after an attack from Ghirahim. She allows Link to access the Ancient Cistern after retrieving some Sacred Water from the Skyview Temple spring. Later in the game, she gives Link the task of finding and collecting Tadtones which make up her part of the Song of the Hero amongst the flooded Faron Woods. Eldin, the Fire Dragon, inhabits the summit at the Eldin Volcano, and teaches Link his part of the Song of the Hero.

The Thunder Dragon, Lanayru, who initially is a pile of bones in the dust of Lanayru Gorge, teaches Link his part of the Song of the Hero after Link activates a Timestone, discovers Lanayru is gravely ill, and heals him with the fruit of the Life Tree.
7. Should Link carry out tasks for the various inhabitants of Skyloft, he may be rewarded with Gratitude Crystals. Which character in Skyloft wants Link to collect these Gratitude Crystals?

Answer: Batreaux

Although collecting these crystals is not necessary to complete Link's quest, they do serve as an interesting diversion from the main task at hand. Link discovers Batreaux living in a house underneath Skyloft, and initially thinks he is a demon creature who wishes to terrorise the population.

However, when Link raises his sword, Batreaux flinches and admits that he doesn't want to scare people, but become one. By collecting the Gratitude Crystals, Batreaux can harness the power of human gratitude and transform into a human, so that he may be accepted by the people of Skyloft. Eighty crystals allows Batreaux to become a human, and also makes Skyloft safe to explore at night, as all the enemies will disappear.
8. As far as potions go, which of these is a green potion, sold by Luv at her shop in the Skyloft Bazaar?

Answer: Stamina Potion

'Skyward Sword' sees the introduction of potion infusions, which can improve the effect a single potion has upon Link. There are five potions in total at Luv and Bertie's shop in the Bazaar. The red Heart Potion restores eight hearts; the green Stamina Potion temporarily stops Link's stamina from dropping; the blue Air Potion temporarily slows down the rate at which Link's air supply is used up whilst swimming; the pink Revitalising Potion can repair damage to Link's shield and also restore four hearts of health; and the multi-coloured Guardian Potion temporarily reduces the amount of damage Link takes.

While the potions are all well and good by themselves, they can also be improved by talking to Bertie, who can infuse the potions in Link's possession by using various items that Link has collected on his adventure.
9. Rupin's shop in the Bazaar is where Link can stock up on some essentials like arrows and bombs. Rupin also sells three types of shield, but which of these is not one of those?

Answer: Hylian Shield

At first, only the Wooden Shield is available for purchase at 50 Rupees. The Wooden Shield is the weakest shield in the game - it has low durability and is easily destroyed by fire. During the course of Link's quest, Rupin will add new stock to his shop, including the Iron Shield, a more durable shield that resists fire but conducts electricity, which is available for 100 Rupees, and the Sacred Shield, which automatically repairs itself over time and can resist all attacks, though it will set Link back 500 Rupees. Like potions, Link's shields can also be upgraded. Talking to Gondo in the Scrap Shop will allow Link to exchange some Rupees and a few of his collected items for an improved shield. Gondo can also upgrade a few of Link's other items, like his Slingshot, Beetle, and Bow.
10. Where is the final dungeon, the Sky Keep, located in the world?

Answer: Underneath the Statue of the Goddess in Skyloft

The Sky Keep is revealed when Link inserts the Stone of Trials into the bird statue near the waterfall in Skyloft. This results in the ground underneath the Statue of the Goddess crumbling and revealing a spiralling complex of rooms, hidden away by the goddesses many years ago.

Inside, the three pieces of the Triforce await, as Link manipulates the themed rooms and retrieves each piece. When the Triforce is assembled, the whole section of Skyloft housing the Statue of the Goddess and the Sky Keep falls to Hyrule below in the place where the Imprisoned is held with the Sealing Spike, permanently destroying both it and the demonic creature.

However, the terrible evil of Demise is still alive in the past, and Ghirahim takes Zelda through the Gate of Time to the past where he hopes to revive Demise. Link fights Ghirahim, but not quick enough to prevent Demise's revival.

The final battle begins as Ghirahim returns to his original form as Demise's sword, and Link faces this creature of ultimate malevolence.
