Mario Kart Wii Trivia Questions

1. How many races need to be completed in order to unlock Bowser Jr.?

From Quiz
"Mario Kart Wii" [2]

Answer: 3,450

Bowser Jr. takes a while to unlock when going by the race count, taking one of the biggest numbers of any of the characters. This is easily not one of the first characters unlocked, but if you get at least one star on all retro cups of 100cc, you will have him as a playable character. He gives off-road and mini-turbo stat bonuses, but not much, making him have the smallest stat boosts of any character in the game.

2. In Mushroom Gorge, what color are the mushrooms that do NOT make you bounce?

From Quiz Mario Kart Wii

Answer: green

These are the same color of one of the most famous enemies in the classic "Mario" games, the Koopa. Another fun fact is that both mushrooms on the track are the colors of Mario and Luigi's costumes.

3. In Mario Circuit, there's an enemy that eats you. What is the name of that vicious enemy?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii" Mania!

Answer: Chain Chomp

The Flower Cup's opening track is a figure eight. Watch out for a Chain Chomp that's lurking along the way. It could stop them from moving any further.

4. The first one explodes on contact. This one takes out the driver in first place after it is thrown. What's the name of this one?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii" - Items

Answer: Spiny Shell

The dreaded Spiny Shell homes in on the current leader and explodes! It can be very helpful for last-place racers, but it will take you to the finish line on later laps.

5. Who is the fastest character you can unlock among the medium class characters for the Mach Bike?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii"

Answer: Daisy

Out of all the "Mario Kart Wii" characters you can unlock in the medium class section, Daisy is the fastest with the Mach Bike, which is fast and a good drifting car. You can tell because if you look at the speed of every person in the middle class using the Mach Bike as the bike you use that never changes, you will see that Daisy has the highest speed stat increase.

6. How many tracks are there in the game?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii"

Answer: Thirty-two

The thirty-two tracks in "Mario Kart Wii" are split up into two sections. There are sixteen races in both the 'New Track' section and the 'Retro' section. Both of these sections are split down into four Cups, which each contain four races. The Cups are designed to be in ascending order of difficulty and when you first start out you only have four of the Cups open for you to play (two in each section). However, if you manage to achieve a top three finish in both of the Cups in one section, the you will unlock the third cup in that section, and the process is repeated until you have unlocked all of the cups at every level of difficulty (50cc, 100cc, 150cc and SPOILER 150cc Mirror mode). That means that there are thirty-two grand prix in which you can compete!

7. On which cup is the race Rainbow Road?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii"

Answer: Special Cup

The other three cups aren't real. Rainbow Road is the last race of the cup and designed to be the hardest.

8. How many red mushrooms are you able to jump on in the cave of Mushroom Gorge?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii" [2]

Answer: Eleven

The red mushrooms can be used to hop when landed on for a short lift in the air. The right route is much safer and doesn't increase in elevation, while the left route in the cave gives high elevation with sudden drops back to the normal one. There is also green mushrooms, which you can ride across, but don't give a lift when hopped on.

9. There are thirty-two tracks in the game divided up into two Grand Prix types. What are the two types?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii" - The Race Is On!

Answer: Nitro and Retro

The Nitro Grand Prix has the Star Cup, the Flower Cup, the Special Cup, and the Mushroom Cup. The Retro has the Leaf Cup, the Lightning Cup, the Banana Cup, and the Shell Cup. Just pick one and you're ready to race.

10. This technique always gives you a head start. When the light turns green, you speed up and take the lead. What is the name of the technique that is used at the start of the race?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii" - Courses, Items, and Techs

Answer: Rocket Start

The Rocket Start technique is one of my favorite racing techniques in "Mario Kart Wii" and it can give racers a small advantage. Just hold down on the corresponding gas pedal at a specific point during the countdown to the start of the race and when the word "GO!" appears and you'll earn a small speed boost at the starting line.

11. In the game, what player do you never unlock?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii"

Answer: Blooper

However, Blooper does have a kart inspired by him called the Super Blooper. Blooper is also one of the bonuses. He can fly over to every racer in front of you and squirt them with ink, decreasing their vision.

12. This one is a slippery mess. It can be thrown forward or back. Can you name that sweet item in the game?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii" - Items

13. In what time trial can you find Nokis from "Super Mario Sunshine" as you start the race?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii"

Answer: Peach Beach

Nokis are the shell-guys that last appeared in "Super Mario Sunshine" but now they also appear in Peach Beach on "Mario Kart Wii". On Delfino Square you find Piantas, on Coconut Mall you find Miis, and at Mushroom Gorge you find Goombas.

14. The Booster Seat,a small weight kart, was customized for which character?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii" [2]

Answer: Koopa Troopa

The Booster Seat comes in the small weight class, and can get easily pushed around. Having the best handling kart in the game, it also happens to be the slowest in the speed stat, so this kart may not be for the time trails! However, the kart makes up for it with high acceleration, off-Road, and mini-Turbo.

15. What button on the Wii remote do you press to let certain objects (like the banana peel) trail behind you?

From Quiz Mario Kart Wii

Answer: Left arrow on the control pad

This can be very useful if somebody just threw a red shell at you. It also makes it easier to place an item in the exact place where you want it.

20. In which cup would you find the track 'Maple Treeway'?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii"

Answer: Star Cup

The Star Cup is one of the most difficult in the game, with tracks that include rapids (Koopa Cape), collapsing earth (Grumble Volcano), giant tree branches (Maple Treeway) and stairwell shortcuts (Daisy Circuit). You can have your favorite characters on bikes and it has brand new courses to keep you busy for a while.

27. What type of Kart is the Rally Romper?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii"

Answer: Small

The Rally Romper can be accessed by unlocking one expert Staff ghost in Time Trial mode. Usually, to unlock an expert staff ghost you have to beat the 'normal' ghost by around 5-7 seconds although the threshold does vary between courses. Although Time Trial mode is often shunned by many "Mario Kart" enthusiasts, who prefer to play the Grand Prix or online mode, in "Mario Kart Wii" it allows you to unlock five characters, two bikes and two karts. Unlike "Mario Kart DS", where it was possible to use all characters with all karts, in "Mario Kart Wii" each character can only use the karts and bikes that are the right size. e.g Large characters use large bikes.

28. How can you unlock the playable character Baby Luigi?

From Quiz "Mario Kart Wii" [2]

Answer: Win 1000 Nintendo WFC races
