Beginning the game with a weapon you already get Mastery in simplifies the need to arm yourself, to say the least. The Double-Barrel, even at a plain Common rarity, will do terrifying damage in Ash's hands, as it already has excellent stats even before applying the buff courtesy of Mastery.

The Chainsaw gets moderate buffs to its attack speed, damage, balance bar damage and dismemberment rate when Ash specifically uses it. This makes it so that even a common rarity Chainsaw will outperform most legendary rarity melee weapons when used by him.

This can suit Ash very well if the Demon manages to find him early on in the game. It can also be useful in expediting the process of finding a weapon for the rest of his team, as he won't have to 'compete' with them for a weapon.

When entering, Henrietta will giggle loudly and taunt the Survivors before the Demon player can begin controlling her. She is noteworthy for having the most HP out of the three Demon classes. Her balance bar is also the highest, though she doesn't have a way to heal like Evil Ash nor generate Infernal Energy like Eligos, meaning the player must be efficient with her in combat to get the most out of her tankiness.

Answer: Locate pieces of a map

The team will eventually need to find and retrieve the Kandarian Dagger and Lost pages of the Necronomicon. In order to figure out where they are, Professor Raymond Knowby has hidden pieces of a map around the area in random places. They aren't too far from one another, but are otherwise completely random.

Answer: Crossbow

The Crossbow is somewhat of a boom or bust choice of weaponry, and is highly reliant on skilled use to get the most out of. Its base damage is merely decent and it's break action, but it has a gargantuan headshot multiplier that, if consistently taken advantage of, will easily allow Ed Getley to claim the throne for DPS amongst his team. That said, the Crossbow has pitiful spread and low accuracy, so constantly hitting headshots requires a high amount of skill and possibly some luck as well.

When armed with a Lumberjack Axe and receiving its Mastery benefits, Scotty can really go nuts on the enemy. Because of his unique AoE talents combined with the axe's high Dismemberment rate, Scotty can afflict Dismemberment to multiple enemies at once very, very easily.

Lord Arthur gets this benefit right from level 1. As the Sword is one of the best melee weapons in the game, this is clearly an appreciable benefit.

Answer: Evil Ash

When entering, Evil Ash will loudly erupt with evil laughter and sinisterly remark "I'm coming for you" before the player can begin using him. Evil Ash has the ability to resurrect any skeletons which have recently died within a moderate distance of his position. He can also use Infernal Invigoration to heal himself. As well, the Necromancer's Flautist can buff his damage output to truly scary heights, and he naturally has the ability to pressure Survivors who attempt to kill the Flautist. Finally, Evil Ash is unique amongst his brethren for being the only Demon unit in the game capable of dodging like a Survivor would. Given that he can also heal himself and gain a large support network via resurrection, it's very easy for Evil Ash to stick around for a long time and cause the Survivors a lot of problems in the process.

Answer: Kill the Survivors

Plain and simple, the Demon's goal will remain a win condition for the entirety of the game. The only time this even slightly changes is once the Dark Ones are defeated, but even then, killing all four Survivors will still result in victory for the Demon.

Answer: He is immune to Demon Vision

Pablo's passive ability, Infernal Camouflage, makes him uniquely immune to Demon Vision. This means Pablo is the only Survivor who can drive a car, shoot a gun or allow his fear to get too high while not giving away his location to the Demon. He can, however, be possessed. As well, it is possible that making a lot of noise will attract AI controlled Deadite. A swarm of Deadites converging on one spot could catch the attention of the Demon, who could potentially put two and two together and use intuition to locate Pablo. As such, he isn't literally invisible per se, but he has a lot more protection than anyone else.

Answer: Meat Hammer

Unfortunately, Mastery is not strong enough to make Kelly do meaningful damage with the Meat Hammer. The Meat Hammer itself has mediocre stats and, as a Hunter, Kelly will do naturally poor damage with melee weapons in general. Still, after the Mastery buff, the Meat Hammer does become her best melee weapon, and it can at least be okay in the event Kelly runs out of ammo.

Henry the Red is overall built to accommodate more of a tanking role than a damage dealing one that Ash and Scotty were built for. Unfortunately, this means Henry doesn't get Mastery with any weapon.

Sadly, Annie doesn't get the benefit of beginning the game with anything. This can put her in a bit of trouble if the Demon finds her quickly, especially if her teammates are a distance away.

Answer: Eligos

Eligos may have the shortest HP bar of his contemporaries, but he makes up for it and then some with his blazing speed. When not attacking, Eligos is also completely invisible, making him a natural candidate for a hit and run strategy to compensate for his frailty. He's no slouch offensively, with an extremely fast light attack that can rip off enormous amounts of health very quickly and has a deadly tendency to simply stunlock a Survivor straight to death. Finally, Eligos has a massive AoE lightning attack that hits very hard, covers a wide radius, and serves as a helpful tool to force melee Survivors off of him, which can help him slip back into the shadows until he's ready to strike again. Uniquely, where Henrietta and Evil Ash are very loud upon entry, Eligos does not make any distinguishable sound upon being deployed. As such, if Survivors do not physically see him enter play, he could easily take a stealthy approach and surprise them, which could lead to a fast kill.

Answer: Acquire the Kandarian Dagger and Lost Pages

From the beginning of the game, it's actually possible and may even be beneficial to figure out where the Dark Ones are, as they never relocate at anypoint. Unfortunately, however, until the Dagger and Lost Pages are retrieved, the Survivors cannot actually do anything to the Dark Ones, so approaching them will be pointless. Once the map is put together, the game will display the locations of both the Kandarian Dagger and Lost Pages. The team must go to these areas, where they'll need to activate an event and remain within a small blue circle for a moderate period of time until they're both claimed.

Answer: Pistol

The Pistol is a very fast gun which is excellent for constantly stunning possessed units the Demon is controlling. With Mastery, it will now do amazing overall damage, and it's speed gives Amanda the edge she needs to get out of a rough situation.

Answer: Higher maximum HP

This benefit is definitely valuable, particularly on Henry the Red who aims to be a tank and stick around for a long time. In a nutshell, however, there will never be a situation where having more HP isn't useful somehow.

Answer: Shemp's Cola

Ash and Pablo will heal nearby Survivors for a portion of what Shemp's Cola would normally heal for, while Cheryl will, at level 25, begin to heal close Survivors for the full amount of what a Shemp's Cola would typically heal for.

Answer: Slower stamina consumption rate

Hunters can sprint for noticeably longer than other classes, as well as dodge more before running out of stamina. This can help them better avoid possessed Deadite attacks. As the Hunter has less HP than the other classes, being more apt at dodging can help to mask this disadvantage.

Answer: The aura will buff those in it

Lord Arthur provides a moderate buff to melee, Annie Knowby buffs ranged weapons, while Ash's aura provides less of a buff than them, but the upside is that it's not specific to melee or ranged weapons like the other two, and instead buffs any type of damage output. Ash's also increases the fear resistance of anyone inside his aura, while Annie's aura can also buff balance bar damage.

Answer: Deal damage

It doesn't deal a ton of damage, but the Evil Hand will damage the Survivor it manages to trap. Where the Mini Ashes are boom-or-bust, stealing either crucial supplies or useless unneeded ones, the Evil Hand's benefit is less broadly useful but consistent, being always of at least slight use.

Answer: Destroy the Dark Ones

With the Dagger in hand, the Survivors can now finally damage the Dark Ones. They'll need to get in close, then use the Dagger to progressively deplete their health until they're dead. The Dark Ones will respond by shooting Survivors with fireballs and, after losing 1/3rd of their health, will occasionally cause an AoE tremor. The Dark Ones will also almost certainly be receiving support from the Demon player, which figures to complicate things further.

Answer: Exorcism

If the Demon possesses a basic unit or a fellow Survivor, Ash can activate Exorcism to immediately force the Demon out of whatever they've possessed. If used on a possessed elite or boss unit, it will only moderately damage the unit instead of forcing the Demon out of them. Notably, if the Demon is forced out by Exorcism, they'll also be entirely sapped of their Infernal Energy. It also uniquely has armor, meaning that the Demon cannot interrupt Ash's use of this ability.

Answer: Devastating Force

Devastating Force offers a nice, flat buff to any and all melee damage caused, therefore making it a simple choice for Warriors to invest in. It will buff damage output by 2/5/10/15% for each skill point invested.

Answer: The player cannot act

Whether it be a boss, elite or basic unit, a possessed unit without a balance bar cannot act for several seconds until it regenerates. If it's a boss unit, the player will probably be able to survive this downtime and be able to do more damage. Otherwise, the player is advised to abandon the unit, as they are highly unlikely to survive long enough to regain their balance bar. Even on the off chance they did, they'd probably have such a small amount of health left they'd be easy pickings. As well, it costs Infernal Energy to remain possessing a unit, and spending this for no gain would be very bad.

Answer: Banish the Demon using the Necronomicon

This is a simple 'hold your ground and defend' type mini game, where for the first time, it's the Survivors who are on the defensive. The Demon player has two minutes to destroy the Necronomicon. If they succeed, they win the game. If two minutes pass and it isn't destroyed, the Survivors win the game. Alternatively, the Demon player can still win the game by killing all four Survivors. This creates some interesting strategic moments for both sides. It may be a good idea for the Survivors to have a teammate venture far away from the Necronomicon, which could potentially remove killing all four as a viable win condition for the Demon. On the other hand, this would make it tougher to defend the Necronomicon. This dilemma also extends to the Demon- should I focus my efforts on destroying the Necronomicon or killing all four Survivors? If a few members of the team are noticeably low on health, the latter may be their best best, while the former could be best if everyone is healthy and/or shielded by Amulets.

Answer: Reduced Fear

The extent to which Reassuring Presence lowers fear can be impacted by Ash's skill points, but it's a fairly significant amount, at bare minimum still significantly stronger than Cheryl's Contact Courage. As a result, Ash is a really strong pairing for characters who struggle with fear management, namely Henry the Red or characters under the Hunter class.

Answer: Disarm them

Ed's teammates will see a trap icon with a red line slashing through it on a spot where Ed disarmed a Demon trap. The trap doesn't stay disarmed forever, so his teammates would do well to memorize the locations of disarmed traps so that they don't errantly step into them later when they become rearmed.

Answer: Buff melee damage output of nearby allies

Lord Arthur naturally already buffs melee damage output of those within his aura- activating The Lord's Wrath furthers this buff to truly scary heights briefly. When in conjunction with an allied AOD Ash's Wiseman's Potion, this can let the latter do absurd things such as kill Eligos in just three hits, Evil Ash in six. Lord Arthur himself becomes quite the powerhouse during this time as well, receiving a third buff if he has a Sword, which he begins the game with and has no reason to ever drop.
