InFamous Trivia Questions

1. Where does 'InFamous' take place?

From Quiz
Intrepid, Incorrigible, 'InFamous'

Answer: Empire City

Empire City is modelled on New York City, and is also located in roughly the same area. The events of 'InFamous' begin after The Blast, an explosion which rips through Empire City and leaves it with a plague that isolates the city from the rest of the country. At the heart of the explosion was Cole MacGrath, a courier who afterwards found himself with the power to control and manipulate electricity. Using his new abilities, he finds himself choosing between doing good and helping the citizens of Empire City, or embracing his new position in the society and becoming evil and dominant.

2. In "inFamous 2", players take on the role of Cole MacGrath as he gains powers to face off against the Beast, making "good" or "evil" choices along the way. What are Cole's PRIMARY powers?

From Quiz InFamous 2 (PS3)

Answer: electricity

Cole learns of his destiny to fight the Beast in the original "inFamous" game. He gets the information from "Kessler", who is actually a future Cole from an alternate timeline where the Beast won. Cole is a "conduit", a rare person who gains powers from Ray Field energy. During "inFamous 2," Cole chooses to use the Power Transfer Device with either Kuo or Nix, adding cryokenetic or pyrokinetic powers to his electric ones.

3. How does Cole MacGrath gain new powers?

From Quiz Intrepid, Incorrigible, 'InFamous'

Answer: By powering up subterranean electrical substations

Cole can restore his energy by absorbing electricity from cars, generators, traffic lights, and lamp posts, amongst other things. Scattered across the city are manholes which allow access to electrical substations beneath the ground. Cole can restore the power to the substations and the district above by completing the circuits, and in doing so, can acquire new powers. This is not to be confused with upgrading powers, which costs experience points. Experience points can be obtained by completing missions, performing stunts, and collecting Dead Drops.

4. "inFamous 2" contains references to other video games. What PlayStation character's symbol appears on Cole's backpack?

From Quiz InFamous 2 (PS3)

Answer: Sly Cooper

The "Sly Cooper" franchise was started by Sucker Punch, the developer of "inFamous". The Sly Cooper patch is seen in several scenes where the camera shows the backpack close enough. The patch is also on the real backpack included in the Hero edition of the game. Some pre-order bonuses were weapon skins, including one that changes Cole's Amp weapon into Sly's cane. The most obvious references to other video game titles are the names of the adult films playing at the cinemas, such as Assassin's Need (Love Too), Hey Low Reach, No Need For Speed, Epic Hickey, Little Big Unit, Call of Booty, Uncharted Love, and Solid Serpent: The Man: The Movie.

5. The original "inFamous" game took place in Empire City, a fictional analogue of New York. "inFamous 2" starts in Empire City, but then moves to what town?

From Quiz InFamous 2 (PS3)

Answer: New Marais

New Marais stands in for New Orleans, complete with a neighborhood destroyed by a recent flood. "Marais" translates to "marsh" in French, which is appropriate for the swamp surrounding the town.

6. In "inFamous 2", Cole must collect blast cores, both to gain new powers and to activate the Ray Field Inhibitor to combat the Beast. How many blast cores does Cole need to collect?

From Quiz InFamous 2 (PS3)

Answer: seven

Using his electric powers to activate the blast cores grants Cole new powers. It also drains him, leaving him unconscious and vulnerable for a few hours. So after collecting a new blast core, Cole waits until he returns to Zeke before he activates it, so his friend can watch over him.

7. How many Dead Drops are scattered across the city?

From Quiz Intrepid, Incorrigible, 'InFamous'

Answer: Thirty-two

Dead Drops are pieces of equipment attached to satellite dishes on the top of many buildings. They transmit recorded audio messages by key characters such as John White and Moya Jones, and provide a fair amount of information about the back story of 'InFamous', which is not specifically explained in missions and side-quests. The Dead Drops return in 'InFamous 2', but instead of being attached to satellite dishes, they are attached to birds which circle around buildings and can only be retrieved by hitting the bird with a zap of electricity.

8. Background information in the game can be revealed when Cole finds messages and recordings from Dr. Sebastian Wolfe in "dead drops" around the city. How does Wolfe leave these messages?

From Quiz InFamous 2 (PS3)

Answer: carrier pigeons

Cole must use his blast powers to knock the pigeons out of the sky and can then retrieve the messages. Poor birds - they are constantly circling and never landing until Cole blasts them. There are 29 pigeons, and getting them will earn the player the "Behind the Curtain" bronze trophy (for 50% of the dead drops) and the "Well inFORMED" silver trophy (for 100%). Unretrieved dead drops appear as a bird icon on the mini-map. John White used small satellite dishes for his dead drops in the original "inFamous".

9. For which organisation does Moya Jones work?

From Quiz Intrepid, Incorrigible, 'InFamous'

Answer: DARPA

DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, was the organisation funding the construction of the Ray Sphere, which was headed by Kessler and the First Sons. The Ray Sphere was a device capable of unlocking the Conduit gene found in several people, most notably Cole, and was the source of the Blast in Empire City. Moya Jones' role in this was as a liaison between DARPA and the First Sons. When she discovered Cole had the Ray Sphere, she attempted to get it back through lying and trickery, fearful that Cole might not believe the true purpose of the sphere and refuse to return it to her.

10. The "Ice Gang" are private mercenaries from South Africa that were given cryokenetic powers. What is the name of their mercenary company?

From Quiz InFamous 2 (PS3)

Answer: Vermaak 88

"Vermaak" means "entertainment" in Afrikaans and Dutch. During the game, some of the Ice Gang soldiers undergo further mutations, becoming Heavy Soldiers, then Crushers, and finally Titans. In a series of "good" side missions, one of the Ice Gang soldiers helps Cole, but then needs to be killed. Completing this series of missions will get the player the "Frozen Asset" bronze trophy.

11. Which faction ruled the Neon District?

From Quiz Intrepid, Incorrigible, 'InFamous'

Answer: Reapers

Fuelled by the city's quarantine due to the plague, the Reapers quickly took control of the Neon District, using a black tar-like substance to corrupt citizens and contaminate the city's water supply. Cole fights their leader, Sasha, and almost discovers vital information about the First Sons, when an explosion rips through the area and in the ensuing chaos, Sasha is captured and taken away before imparting any information to Cole.

12. "inFamous 2" features "UGC", User Generated Content, where players have access to tools to make missions and can then upload them for others to play. What color are UGC missions on the map?

From Quiz InFamous 2 (PS3)

Answer: green

UGC missions are green, the main story missions are white, and side missions (to control territory) are yellow. "Evil" and "good" side missions are yellow with red or blue, respectively. The player can place a single purple waypoint on the map, which is a good way to get to a specific destination.

13. What is Cole's relationship with Trish Dailey?

From Quiz Intrepid, Incorrigible, 'InFamous'

Answer: Initially girlfriend, then eventually ex-girlfriend

As Cole is being tended to after the Blast, Trish, Cole's girlfriend, discovers her sister was killed in the explosion. When the news and authorities report that Cole is a terrorist and responsible for the Blast, Trish blames Cole for the death of her sister, and subsequently ends their relationship. Kessler kidnapped Trish and suspended her off a building, along with several doctors. Kessler gave Cole the choice of either saving Trish or the doctors, and whichever he chose, the other party would be killed. Regardless of the choice, however, Trish is killed, and depending on Cole's karma, she either praises him for his good actions in her final moments, or scorns him and dies despising him.

14. In the "good" ending of the game, Cole chooses to activate the Ray Field Inhibitor, which cures the plague but kills conduits, including himself. Not all of Cole's allies agree with this decision. Who must Cole fight in the good ending?

From Quiz InFamous 2 (PS3)

Answer: Kuo

The Ray Field Inhibitor activates around the globe, curing people all over the world. Unfortunately, thousands of undiscovered conduits die as a result. Kuo is scared of dying and combats Cole, but eventually comes to terms with what is necessary for the greater good. Cole is hailed as the "patron saint of New Marais" for his sacrifice. As Zeke transports Cole's body home, a lightning bolt strikes the ship. Perhaps this is not the end of Cole's adventures.

15. Who does Cole fight at the end of the game?

From Quiz Intrepid, Incorrigible, 'InFamous'

Answer: Kessler

As the game progresses, it is revealed that the game's primary antagonist, Kessler, is in fact Cole MacGrath from an alternate future who travelled back in time to turn his past self into a powerful enough person to avert the disastrous future from which Kessler came. Sci-fi buffs will realise the somewhat paradoxical nature of travelling back in time to have the past self kill the future self to prevent the future self's future from ever existing. Despite these circumstances, Kessler puts up quite a fight, and, having been a Conduit for many years, is an exceptionally powerful adversary.
