3. This adorable little animal is known by which of the following red names?

Answer: Red panda

Related to skunks, weasels and raccoons, the red panda is found only in areas of the eastern Himalayan mountains and in southwest China. It has reddish-brown fur to help keep it warm in winter and will eat almost everything, from insects, small mammals, birds, eggs, and bamboo. The red panda is nocturnal and lives a solitary life except when breeding or rearing its young.
4. Ladybugs or ladybirds, as this insect is called, have how many legs?

Answer: Six

Like ALL insects, the ladybugs (or ladybirds) have six legs. There are many species and many names for this particular family of insects, properly known as coccinellids. They are found on every continent except Antarctica and are known to eat aphids and some plants, and are considered good luck in many cultures of the world.
5. Why is there so little known about this animal, which is named the Tiburonia granrojo jellyfish?

Answer: It was not discovered until 2003.

The Tiburonia granrojo jellyfish was first found in the deep waters of the Pacific Ocean. It is so rare, and lives at a depth that is so deep, that finding it was just a matter of luck. Since it was discovered, more have been found. Its name means 'big red', it has very thick arms, as opposed to tentacles, and its diet is unknown.
6. What is the name of this venomous snake, found in many different countries of the world?

Answer: Coral snake

This is an image of the venomous coral snake, which has a bite that can be fatal. This is a shy snake that is not aggressive, will bite only as a last resort, and can only bite small flaps of skin such as the webbing between your fingers. There are other similarly colored snakes that are not venomous, but unless you are with a snake specialist it is best to leave any snake with this coloring alone.
7. Which of the following options is the correct name for this beautiful American bird?

Answer: Scarlet tanager

This beautiful bird is a scarlet tanager. As with most birds, the female is rather drab, but the adult male, like this one, has brightly colored feathers. Found in both North and South America, they love to nest in oak trees, and have a diet that consists of insects and fruit.
8. Which of the following best describes the diet of our friend, the red fox?

Answer: Omnivorous

The red fox, which is found all over the northern hemisphere, is a type of omnivorous canine. It is extremely adaptable, has one of the highest birth rates in the wild dog family, and can over-populate areas quickly. Its lovely red fur was used for hats, jackets and gloves for many years.
9. In which ocean would you find the sockeye salmon, like those in the photo?

Answer: Pacific

A very popular food fish, the sockeye salmon lives in the northern Pacific Ocean and gets its unusual name from a mistranslation of a Native American word meaning 'red fish'. They feed on zooplankton, which may cause the fish to change from a silvery blue, to the reddish color seen in this photo of a male and female sockeye.
10. Why should you never pick up a poison dart frog, like the one in the picture?

Answer: Its venom could kill you

There are many varieties of poison dart frogs, most of which are very brightly colored like the frog in the photo. Found in Central and South America, some of these frogs are poison simply to touch and can kill a grown man quickly. Natives of the area have used them for centuries to poison the darts they use when hunting.
