Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A male Newfoundland can weigh up to how many pounds on a normal basis?

Answer: 150 pounds

Females may weigh up to 120 pounds.
2. How long does an average Newfoundland live?

Answer: 8-10 years

Newfoundlands are not dogs who tolerate heat, however they are comfortable in cold weather and have been used as water rescue dogs.
3. What have black and white Newfoundlands been dubbed?

Answer: Landseers

Solid black color is most identified with the breed.
4. True or False. Newfoundlands are just black Saint Bernards.

Answer: False

Saint Bernards can more accurately be called Newfoundlands. When many Saint Bernards were dying due to bad weather, disease, inbreeding, and other reasons, the remaining dogs were crossed with Newfoundlands. So actually, Saint Bernards are brown and white Newfoundlands!
5. What group (In the American Kennel Club) do Newfoundlands belong to?

Answer: The Working Group

Note: Remember, the question above refers to their grouping in the American Kennel Club. Worldwide, however, they may be in another group, for example the Utility group in Australia.
