Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Rabbits are crepuscular. What does crepuscular mean?

Answer: They are active in twilight hours

Crepuscular means that rabbits are active mostly when there is some light, such as during dusk and dawn. A lot of people mix up nocturnal with crepuscular, but the difference is that crepuscular animals (rabbits) come out during dusk or dawn and nocturnal animals (bats and owls) are most active during the prime hours of the night.
2. A male rabbit is called a what?

Answer: Buck

A female rabbit is called a doe.
3. Rabbits kept as pets have an average lifespan of how many years?

Answer: 8 to 10 years

But of course it depends on how well you take care of your rabbit. If you forget to feed it a lot, and if you only feed it pellets and don't give it any hay, your rabbit will probably not live as long as someone who is consistent about feeding their rabbit. You also need to make sure you are brushing your rabbit frequently because when a rabbit licks itself clean, it will lick up all of the loose hair and then it will get into their systems, and that is not good for your rabbit.
4. Which of these is NOT a type of rabbit?

Answer: African noir

There is such thing as an Argente noir, but there is no such thing as an African noir. There are over 100 breeds of rabbits, and over 10 extinct breeds!
5. Which of these is the most important part of a rabbit's diet?

Answer: Hay

Hay is SO important to a rabbit's diet! Most owners feed their rabbits pellets, but they are not necessary. Fruit is okay to feed your rabbit, but it's not the BEST thing for them, and if you feed them too much fruit, they will get diarrhea!
6. Which of these is NOT part of a rabbit's ear?

Answer: Selamectin system

A rabbit's ear is complicated, with over 15 parts to it! It is important that, like people, we don't shout into rabbits ears or play loud music around them because they can go deaf.
7. A branch from an apple tree for chewing is good to keep in a rabbit's cage.

Answer: True

Chewing is part of a rabbit's natural behavior, so it is good to keep a wooden branch in a rabbit's cage to chew on. But check to make sure it is safe before adding anything to the cage.
8. Which is true of rabbits?

Answer: They shouldn't be picked up by their ears

You should never EVER pick up rabbits by their ears. You should always pick them up with two hands, one under their bottom for support and your other hand should go around their back. Although most people believe that salt licks are mandatory, they are not needed. Rabbits need room to be able to stretch out and not feel so trapped. For the sake of your rabbit's happiness, put it in a big cage where it can hop around. And rabbits, also like people, SHOULD get annual check-ups!
9. Rabbits are better off how?

Answer: With a bunny of the opposite gender

Rabbits that are with a bunny of the same gender tend to fight and not get along well, and rabbits get lonely when they are all by themselves with no other rabbits to play with! Some bunnies are okay with cats and dogs, but most rabbits are afraid of them. You shouldn't put your rabbit with other animals.

The best thing for a rabbit to have is a bunny of the opposite gender. If you don't want them to have babies, you can just spay and neuter them.
10. Rabbits can have cancer.

Answer: True

Rabbits can have cancer just like people! Female rabbits can have uterine cancer, which is most common for female rabbits that aren't spayed. Urgent care is required if your rabbit is having difficulty breathing or is showing signs of depression or anorexia. Yes, rabbits CAN have anorexia and depression too!
