Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Pooh dull

Answer: Poodle

There are three variations of the breed..Minature, Standard, and Toy. However, the standards for all three heights are the same. They originated from Germany and were once used as hunting dogs.

Poodles in general are mild-mannered, yet they can be protective of their home and family. If someone in your family has allergies which are aggravated by dog fur or dander, then you are in luck as this breed is hypoallergenic. The breakdown for the sizes are as follows: The Standard: must be over fifteen inches at the shoulders' highest point.

The Miniature: The 'mini' must be under the fifteen inch requirement at the highest point of the shoulders.

The Toy: is the smallest, and must be smaller than ten inches at the highest point of the shoulders.
2. Mick's brayed

Answer: Mixed Breed

Mix breeds are very special dogs as they are a complete surprise package. One will never know exactly what they are getting when they get a mix breed. Mix breeds are a combination of two or more breeds of dog, and some owners consider their dogs to be very intelligent.

My own dog, Hola, is a mix between an Akita, Pitbull, and a German Shepherd. He's very lovable, but as his veterinarian said, he has mental problems, one of them being is that he's an agoraphobic, even though I have attempted to socialize him since early puppyhood. Unfortunately, he's been this way since I received him from the local SPCA, but I couldn't love him any more than if he were my own child.
3. Mall tease

Answer: Maltese

The Maltese is a small white dog in the Toy Group of the AKC.

The Maltese is believed by some to have originated approximately 8,000 years ago on the Island of Malta. The Maltese was originally called Melitaie Dog.

Ancient artifacts found in Egypt clearly show drawings that closely resemble the Maltese. Philosophers, poets, and historians have written about this adorable little dog. Queen Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots both owned this type of dog.
4. Dock shunned

Answer: Dachshund

This adorable breed is sometimes referred to as a "Hot Dog," because of how long they are. The Dachshund has been among the most popular dog breeds since the beginning of the 1950s. This breed originated in Germany, where it is referred to as Teckel. Essentially, the word Dachshund means badger dog.

While these dogs may be small in body, they are big in heart, and are considered fearless hunters.
5. Call he

Answer: Collie

The Collie originated in the highlands of Scotland during the eighteenth century and were used as sheepdogs. There are two versions of this breed, the Rough Collie, which is what Lassie is and the Smooth Collie, identical to the "Rough" Collie (Lassie), but without all the fur. The breed standard for the American Kennel Club (AKC) is exactly the same, regardless if the Collie is "Rough" or "Smooth."

The Collie is highly intelligent, loyal, lovable, and a great friend. With their regal looks and eyes that can pierce your soul, it is no doubt that the Collie is among the favorite of all AKC breeds.
6. Dow may shun

Answer: Dalmatian

Historians of the Dalmatian believe that this breed originated in Dalmatia, which was once a part of Austria. The detailed history for this breed shows that the dogs were developed for hunting and were often used as coach dogs.

It is believed that some Dalmatians used to sleep with horses that used to pull the fire wagons, and when the fire alarms were sounded the Dalmatian would run alongside the horses. However, when firetrucks were invented, Dalmatians became mascots for firehouses.

Dalmatian puppies are born solid white...at approximately four to six weeks their spots will start to appear.

The Dalmatian is strong, muscular, active, intelligent, and is not shy. As with any dog, they require lots of tender loving care and proper socialization.
7. Ah keyed ah

Answer: Akita

The Akita dates back approximately three hundred years to Japan, and is the largest of the Japan-Spitz breeds. This magnificent dog was originally used in male-female pairs and often hunted deer, bears, and wild boar. Because they have what is termed a "soft mouth," they were used to effectively catch water fowl.

The Akita was eventually brought to the United States sometime after World War II, when American Servicemen noticed how the dogs were capable of protecting, hunting, herding, and fighting.

Dating back in the Akita's history, it is clearly noted that only Imperial leaders of Japan were able to own these splendid creatures. The Akita is highly intelligent, with a great sense of smell, hearing and sight; and makes an excellent guard dog.

As with most breeds that tend to be aggressive, the Akita fares well if it is properly socialized with other dogs and humans, is shown lots of love, and is exercised on a daily basis. The Akita will protect its owner at all cost, as this is one of the things that this breed was originally intended for, however, once you make "friends" with an Akita, it is an experience that will last a lifetime...as they are truly loyal to their masters.
8. Sand burn hard

Answer: Saint Bernard

Like the dog in the movie "Beethoven," Saint Bernards are extremely lovable and make an excellent companion. Saint Bernards can be traced back to approximately the early 1800s, and originated from Switzerland. This beautiful dog always seems to have such a sad and forlorn expression.

The American Kennel Club defines two coat types for the Saint Bernard (just as with the Collie) "Rough Coat" and "Smooth Coat," both are judged by the same exact standards.

Saint Bernards are best depicted as carrying a barrel around their neck, while searching for people that have been lost during avalanches. These gorgeous dogs have a knack for predicting when an avalanche will occur.

Just one word of caution, watch out for the slobber that is sure to be all over...no doubt you will find some in your shoes!
9. Goal done retreat her

Answer: Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever originated in Great Britain, and was used for hunting. With its wavy, golden coat, strongly set jaw, and well-balanced body, it is no wonder that the Golden Retriever is among the ten most popular breeds in the United States. The Golden Retriever is very intelligent, lovable, and makes a great companion and work dog.

This breed is considered almost perfect when it comes to assisting people that are blind.
10. Rod why lure

Answer: Rottweiler

The Rottweiler is very strong, powerful, intelligent, and very strong willed...great care needs to be taken with this breed, such as early socialization with humans and other dogs. Even though these dogs are one of the number one dogs with a biting history in the United States, if this dog is treated with love and care and with great respect, then you will have a beautiful, lovable and loyal companion.

The breed's name originates from Rottweil, Germany, where the dog was originally created. It is believed that the Rottweiler, as we know it today, is a combination of a Mastiff and a Drover dog...however, this is not known for sure.

Rottweilers are not recommended for first time dog owners, as they tend to be very dominant. However, if you are lucky enough to own or know a Rottweiler, then you will know that you have truly been blessed.

I have a saying that I use that clearly states how I feel/felt about my Rottweiler, Junior..."You have not been loved, until you have been loved by a Rottweiler." Once these strong powerful dogs capture your heart, they remain in your heart and soul forever.
