Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whales

Answer: Wales

This is a country rich in history and cultural heritage. Everything from the eisteddfod, a celebration of Welsh culture and language, to its fabulous cuisine, draw visitors in from all around the world.
2. So won see

Answer: Swansea

This is one of the few cities found in Wales. Welsh speakers call this city Abertawe, which translates in to English as,'mouth of the river Tawe'.
3. Holly haired

Answer: Holyhead

Holyhead is found on the island off the north west coast of Wales. It is separated from the mainland by the Menai strait. It is a busy ferry port, frequently transporting tourists to Ireland.
4. Hang gull sea

Answer: Anglesey

This relatively large island is found to the north west of the Welsh mainland coastline. The Welsh language is commonly used in north Wales and they refer to the island as Ynys Mon.
5. Cell tick manner

Answer: Celtic Manor

It is actually pronounced [kell-tick], such as in Celtic Scotland, Celtic Ireland and Celtic Wales. This is in comparison to the pronunciation used when saying the name of the Celtic [cell-tick] football team based in Glasgow. Celtic Manor won the right to host the 38th Ryder Cup golf tournament in 2010. This was decided in September of 2001.
6. Da foe dill

Answer: Daffodil

The daffodil is an iconic Welsh emblem, instantly recognisable for its bright yellow petals and its uncanny resemblance to a trumpet. It is of the genus Narcissus, named after the character in Greek mythology who adored and obsessed over his own reflection.
7. Aw sprays

Answer: Ospreys

The Neath-Swansea Ospreys are a rugby union team situated in the south of Wales. They play their home games in what is now known as the Liberty stadium. It had various different names, especially during the construction period. At one time it was unimaginatively called the, New stadium. Genius huh?
8. Orc Kids

Answer: Orchids

The Gower peninsula is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). It has a diversity of beautiful flora and fauna that can challenge some of the most picturesque rural areas in Europe. Gower also has sand dunes in the area known as Oxwich bay. I remember a field trip to Oxwich when I was studying for my geography GCSE, and it really is beautiful. Orchids are just one of the amazing array of rare plants in the area.
9. Leak

Answer: Leek

This vegetable is an iconic emblem of all things Welsh. It is commonly seen as an adornment to a Welsh person's attire around March 1st. This date of course is the day of celebration of the Welsh patron saint, St. David.
10. Hat land tick oh shun

Answer: Atlantic ocean

The Atlantic ocean is the body of water that separates Wales and Ireland from the east coast of the United states of America.
Just as some extra information on those who wish to know a little bit more about the culture of Wales, the Welsh have a nickname given to them by the English! Taffy, the term sometimes used derogatorily by the English to describe the Welsh, has been used since the early 18th century. It is a derivation from the Welsh name Dafydd which has the English equivalent, David.

Well I hope you have enjoyed your fractured tour of Wales. Thanks for playing!
