Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Letter.

Answer: Pea

As in letter of the alphabet. Peas were Clarence Birdseye's first frozen food. The most common variety to be commercially canned or frozen has the appetizing name of marrowfat.
2. Space for huskies.

Answer: Mushroom

"Mush" being the stock command used, in film and TV rather than real life, to drive huskies or sled-dogs. You may groan but I was proud of this one.
3. Actor's prattle.

Answer: Rhubarb

Saying "rhubarb" repeatedly is a famous device used by actors to simulate background conversation. The leaves of rhubarb contain oxalic acid and when eaten can lead to a nasty case of the trots or worse.
4. A rude blow.

Answer: Raspberry

Like the Golden ones awarded to the year's worst in the movies. British readers might be more aware of the Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town.
5. Like a wine store.

Answer: Celery

As in Cellar-y? I know, the puns get worse. Did you know that celery is added to oil to reduce the smell of cooking fish?
6. Left wing revolutionary, sort of.

Answer: Radish

Rad as in "Radical". I suppose a sort of revolutionary who shouts too much is horseradish!
7. Maurice Green was here.

Answer: Runner bean

As in Maurice Green the Olympic sprinter. I told you they get worse. Even the everyday runner bean has strange variety names such as Mergoles or Kelvedon Marvel.
8. Windfall can result in such a turnover.

Answer: Apple

A windfall being a name for apples felled by the wind and turnover being an apple dessert. They say apples float because they are 25 per cent air. But can one a day keep the doctor away? Well if you throw it at him hard enough...
9. Domino Hill.

Answer: Blueberry

As in Fats Domino (real name Antoine Domino) who found his thrill on "Blueberry Hill" in the famous song.
10. English hard rock Down Under.

Answer: Pomegranate

"Pommie" is an Aussie word for English and granite is a rock even harder than this clue. I hope you found this quiz fruitful (and vegful!).
