"Quick" Vic Elford was better known as a sportscar driver, but he did compete in 13 Grands Prix between 1968 and 1971, starting his career with a most impressive fourth place finish driving for Cooper in a wet French Grand Prix.
While driving for Alfa Romeo in the 24 Hours of Le Mans sportscar race of 1972, Elford stopped his car mid race after he saw a Ferrari on fire and although Ferrari driver, Florian Vetsch had safely exited the vehicle, Elford was the first person to reach Lola driver Jo Bonnier, who died of his injuries. For his part in trying to save Bonnier, Elford was awarded the National Order of Merit by the French president.

Piers Courage was a real talent who competed between 1967 and his untimely death in 1970. He drove for Lotus, Reg Parnell and Williams, whose De Tomaso car he was driving at Zandvoort, Netherlands, when a failure on the car caused the accident in which he died. In 1969, while driving the Williams Brabham, he had achieved two podium finishes, with second places at both the Monaco and American Grands Prix.
