1. Doris______Light

Answer: Day

1. Doris Day was born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff in 1922. She is a well known actress and singer and the star of many romantic comedies of the 1950s and 1960s. These include her role in the 1959 film "Pillow Talk" as the successful interior decorator who meets her true love via the medium of a telephone party line shared by several people. Of course it doesn't go smoothly at first, but the film ends happily to the satisfaction of all concerned.

2. Daylight is a another way of describing the sunrise.
2. Shirley_____Mount

Answer: Temple

1. Child star Shirley Temple was born in 1928 and, from the age of three, was the star of a series of films usually involving the theme of a curly headed moppet eventually winning the hearts of even the hardest people. She sang and danced herself into the hearts of film-goers everywhere as a result. Her films include the 1935 "Heidi" which was based on the book by author Johanna Spyri. It tells the story of little orphan Heidi being removed from the care of her grandfather to live in a household where she is the companion of a spoiled, unwell, rich girl who initially is very unkind to Heidi.

2. Temple Mount is one of the most important religious sites in the world. Located in Jerusalem, it is, and has been, the spiritual home of Christianity, Judaiism, Islam and even the older pagan religions of the Romans.
3. Delivery_____Johnson

Answer: Van

1. Major star of the 1940s and 1950s, Van Johnson (1916-2008) was the lead in many war time films, or light-hearted romantic comedies, in which he played the clean-cut, honourable type of character who usually got the lady in the end. These included the 1944 "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" a film based on America's first air strike on Japan following that country's attack on Pearl Harbour. Johnson played one of the pilots in this movie.

2. A delivery van does just that - delivers goods.
4. Bloody_____Pickford

Answer: Mary

1. The lovely Mary Pickford (1892-1979), known as "America's Sweetheart", was a Canadian born actress in the silent movie era. She was so popular and so much in demand that, in 1909 alone, she made fifty-one movies. Such was her skill at acting, Mary was still able to play child stars when she was well into her late twenties. One of these included the 1917 film, "Poor Little Rich Girl" in which she plays an ignored child of rich parents, one who is also bullied by the servants in her home. Sadly, following her retirement from acting, Mary turned to alcohol for solace. She became more and more of a recluse in her beautiful home, refusing to see all but a select group of friends. Poor little rich girl indeed.

2. A Bloody Mary is a cocktail. It contains vodka, tomato juice, lemon, an assortment of different sauces and salts, olives, celery, and quite a wallop. It is believed that drinking a Bloody Mary on the morning after a big night out is a cure for a hangover. This is not true at all. However it does make the hangover more bearable.
5. Steep_____Richard

Answer: Cliff

1. Born in India in 1940, the ageless Cliff Richard is an English singer and actor, well known for his philanthropy and Christian lifestyle. Just a fraction of his enormous output of music includes his well known singles "Please Don't Tease" (1960), "Lucky Lips" (1963), "Marianne" (1968) and "Devil Woman" (1976). Astonishingly so, he had a number one song topping the charts in the UK over a time span of six decades. His films include the 1963 "Summer Holiday", a musical about a group of young men travelling across Europe in an old double-decker bus. Along the way, they collect the equivalent number of young girls, with an indignant mother in hot pursuit. The number of awards Cliff Richard has picked up during his career are way too many to mention individually. However, they include the Order of Prince Henry from Portugal in 2006, and the Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth in 1995.

2. A steep cliff, unless you're a rock climber, is a good place to avoid.
6. Car_____Lemmon

Answer: Jack

1. Award winning American actor Jack Lemmon (1925-2001) starred in sixty films during his career. These included his award winning performance in the 1955 film "Mr Roberts" in which he plays a less than ideal junior officer in the navy during World War II. He redeems himself somewhat at the film's conclusion.

2. A car jack is a device enabling the user to "jack" a car up high enough on one side, usually to change a flat tyre.
7. Hot_____Stewart

Answer: Rod

1. English singer Rod Stewart was born in 1945 in London. His voice, with its very unique tonal quality, has seen him evolve from a full on rock and roll singer to presenting several impressive albums of retro songs from the 1930s and 1940s; excellently so indeed. Perhaps his hallmark song, of all his incredible list of top hits, could be said to be the beautiful "Sailing" from his 1975 album "Atlantic Crossing". Rod's love life is just as colorful as his singing career, but, with that truly exceptional voice of his, he could have as many wives as King Solomon and his fans still wouldn't care.

2. Hot rods are old American racing cars, beautiful to see in action and delightful to admire for their craftsmanship. What could be more perfect then than zooming along the highway in an old hot rod, with hot Rod at the wheel serenading one with any old hot Cole Porter or Irving Berlin number from the 1930s or 1940s?
8. Elizabeth_____Burns

Answer: Montgomery

1. The beautiful Elizabeth Montgomery (1933-1995) was the actress daughter of Hollywood actor Robert Montgomery and his actress wife, Elizabeth Bryan. The role for which she is most well known is that of the enchanting witch, Samantha Stephens, in the television series "Bewitched" (1964-1972). Nobody could twitch a nose as elegantly and with more devastating effect than could the lovely Samantha.

2. Montgomery Burns is the diabolical owner of Springfield's nuclear power plant, and Homer's boss, in the long-running and very popular animated series "The Simpsons". This show, which commenced in 1989, hilariously sends up middle-class America and corporate greed to perfection. Yet, at the same time, it always ultimately manages to convey positive life-style values from the lessons learned in each episode.
9. Marilyn_____Doctrine

Answer: Monroe

1. Years after her death, many people are still haunted by the memory of the tragic actress Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962). This beautiful but vulnerable woman made the world laugh heartily for the duration of her all too short career. Yet her private life was the very opposite of the characters she portrayed on the screen. Mentally fragile, emotionally unstable, Marilyn constantly fought her demons and her chronic stage fright to give us such hilarious performances as that in the 1955 movie "The Seven Year Itch". In this film, she plays the object of Tom Ewell's mid-life crisis fantasy - completely immune to the lady-killer charms he imagines he possesses. It's a truly amusing movie that can bring a laugh any time it is viewed. Up on the silver screen, Marilyn gave us laughter, and she gave us joy, yet even years after the lights dimmed on her life, the knowledge of this lovely actress's tortured, private life still leaves just as many people with a deep, and very real, sense of sadness.

2. The 1823 United States Monroe Doctrine was a decision taken by the States that basically stated that if any further attempts were made by countries from Europe to interfere with, or attempt to colonise America, those attempts would be regarded as acts of aggression - and treated accordingly.
10. Lucille_____Games

Answer: Ball

1. The world loved Lucy and the gift of laughter she too gave to us all. Lucille Ball (1911-1989) was an actress, model, singer, dancer, television executive and giant star of five different television series. These included the original and hilarious "I Love Lucy" which ran from 1951 to 1957. The plot revolved round a young married woman, Lucy, and the comical misadventures in which she constantly became embroiled. It's a real treat to watch these old shows on the occasions they still appear on late night television. The humour was simple, it was clean, it was fresh, and it was very, very funny. Such was this show's popularity that, in the episode where Lucy gave birth to her first child, it pulled in more than 71% of all television viewers in America at that time. That was amazing - considering the fact that President Eisenhower's inauguration as President of the United States took place the following day, and recorded ratings of only 67%.

2. Ball games are the various sports and games that can be played with different sized balls. These can tennis, football, polo, children's games - you name it, and if there's a ball involved, there's a game to be played.
