Love makes the world go round. This is a lovely notion, and, to a degree, is true. Basically it can be summed up by stating that without the eternal drive for human companionship and affection, the desire to reproduce, mankind's compassion towards those in need, and the belief in the inherent goodness of the soul, then we probably would have destroyed ourselves much faster than we're frantically trying to do at present in this battle-scarred and weary old globe.

It takes two to tango. This means, for example, that as far as any argument or bitter dispute goes, one cannot argue with oneself, and such matters usually involve another person at the very least. In a nicer sense, it could also mean that it takes two people to fall in love.

Bad news travels fast. Many people appear to have a sharper, a more acute interest, in the announcement of bad news, or a horrible kind of avidity in hearing same, so it tends to get around any society faster than good news does. Perhaps this is also a case of bringing about a state of alertness and self-preservation as well. Whatever it is, it cannot be disputed that bad news certainly does reach the ears of the general population a lot faster than happier tidings.

All roads lead to Rome. Because the Roman Empire at its most powerful and far reaching covered a vast area of the western world, many roads eventually found their way back to the Roman capital. This saying though is interpreted as there being more than one way to do a certain task, or reach a certain objective, but in the long run, this is eventually achieved.

Actions speak louder than words. We could also phrase this as "Put your money where your mouth is" or "You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?". Words, in many cases, come cheap, even though they are certainly powerful, but ultimately, unless they are followed up by corresponding actions, then all they are is a lot of hot air.

Loose lips sink ships. This mean to keep your mouth shut when it is necessary. Otherwise you could be in real danger of revealing things about people or organisations that could cause disasters, either on a personal, professional, national or international level.

Many hands make light work. For some tasks, the more people who pitch in to help the better. The task will be completed in a record time. At other times however, too many people trying to help or giving unnecessary advice, can have the opposite effect.

Look before you leap. This means to take all things into consideration before making hasty decisions. This wise advice has been found recorded back as far as 1546 in England in an old book of proverbs. Obviously for it to be recorded at all meant that it was in common usage by that time.

Too many cooks spoil the broth. That means that sometimes too many people trying to help achieve a desired goal can have negative effects on the desired outcome, or hinder its progress in some way.
