Question 1 of 10
1. I got the call at 4:25 in the morning, the "graveyard shift". Coffee and Camels were keeping me awake. Question 2 of 10
2. On the way over, Shorty gave me some background. "Did you hear that Marilyn did some pool shots in the all together?" he said, leering. "The latest stunt she pulled was singing a birthday song for someone very high up." I knew who he was talking about. Do you? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. At the scene, we found Marilyn lying face down with her telephone beside her. The sheets were fresh and the housemaid was doing the laundry. There were bottles near the body but no water to wash any pills down with. It all looked pretty fishy. She looked like she had been dead for some time. We decided to question the housemaid. What did she have to tell us? Hint

Which baseball star did Shorty tell me she had been married to? Hint

Question 7 of 10

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I got the call at 4:25 in the morning, the "graveyard shift". Coffee and Camels were keeping me awake. I collared Shorty, my partner for the ride out to Brentwood and gave him the vic's name, Norma Jean Mortenson. "Geez, boss, do you know who that is?" he blurted. Who did he tell me she was?

Answer: Marilyn Monroe

The death of Marilyn Monroe was reported to police in the early hours of the morning and they proceeded to her house, where they found her body. The detective later stated that he thought that the scene that they found appeared to have been prearranged.
2. On the way over, Shorty gave me some background. "Did you hear that Marilyn did some pool shots in the all together?" he said, leering. "The latest stunt she pulled was singing a birthday song for someone very high up." I knew who he was talking about. Do you?

Answer: President Kennedy

Marilyn Monroe did sing "Happy Birthday Mr. President" in a suggestive manner in her whispy voice. She also had a photo shoot with Dean Martin looking on where she shucked her bathing costume in the pool before climbing out. She was widely considered the sexiest woman in America at the time.

Answer: All of these

Eunice Murray, the housemaid, checked on Marilyn at 10:00 PM but the door was closed and she didn't want to disturb her. At midnight, she saw the light still on and knocked but got no answer. She called Dr. Greenson, Marilyn's psychiatrist, who saw her body through the window and broke into the room, only to find her dead.
4. On further questioning, it seems that one Peter Lawford had stayed overninght but left after awakening. He would later call several times with increasing concern that something was not right with Marilyn. The son of an ex-baseball star also called. Which baseball star did Shorty tell me she had been married to?

Answer: Joe DiMaggio

Joe DiMaggio eloped with Marilyn Monroe but their marriage was tempestuous and led to divorce. She later married Arthur Miller. After her divorce from Miller, she and Joe reunited and became close friends. Joe DiMaggio Jr., Marilyn's stepson, called her the day she died and he claimed that she was planning to remarry Joe DiMaggio and seemed happy and lucid.
5. Shorty and I were sitting in the station reading Marilyn Monroe's autopsy report and scratching our heads. The rain was beating down on the street outside and the reflections painted a weird kaleidoscope. It just didn't add up. What was making us scratch our heads?

Answer: No trace of Nembutal was found in the victim's stomach

Since Nembutal was shown to be the pills in the bottle beside Marilyn's body, the report that no traces of Nembutal could be found in the victim's stomach or intestine was suspicious. There was light bruising on her body but no knife or gunshot wounds.

The moth's relevance can be found in the "Silence of the Lambs", another story. Lividity of the body was found on the victim's back, which was suspicious since she had been found lying face down.
6. Shorty and I interviewed Natalie Jacobs, wife of the victim's agent, Arthur P. Jacobs. What she had to tell us, rocked us. After leaving, we sat in a lonely diner over coffee and a bad cheeseburger thinking about it. What did she tell us that had us shaking our heads?

Answer: Jacobs had left a concert at 10:30 PM after a phone call

Arthur P. Jacobs, Marilyn's agent, had been attending a concert at the Hollywood Bowl on the night Marilyn died. He had rushed from his seat after receiving a call at 10:30 PM, wherein he received notice that Marilyn had suffered an overdose. This calls into question the reported sequence of events.
7. The next thing we had to do was contact the FBI, in the hopes that, for once, they would cooperate with local police. Small chance. We did get a meeting with an agent, who tossed us some tidbits. One of them was most interesting. What did the agent tell us?

Answer: Marilyn had been having an affair with Robert Kennedy

Released FBI reports show that Marilyn had been having an affair with Bobby Kennedy and that he had promised to leave his wife and marry her. However, she realized that he had no intentions of doing so and Marilyn had made threats to make the affair public.
8. Shorty and I decided to attend the victim's funeral. If she had been killed, then maybe her killer would be there to get some perverse pleasure from the ceremony. Where did Shorty and I go to see Marilyn interred?

Answer: Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery

Marilyn is buried in Corridor of Memories #24, Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles. Joe DiMaggio arranged the funeral and Lee Strasbourg delivered the eulogy. Her casket was bronze and only 31 mourners were allowed to attend.
9. Shorty and I couldn't see anybody who acted suspiciously so we went back to a case that was getting colder than ice. Shorty had an idea to interview the DiMaggio family and so we hoofed it over to meet with June DiMaggio, Joe's niece, and a friend of the victim. What did she have to reveal?

Answer: Marilyn knew her killers

June DiMaggio revealed that her mother had been on the telephone with Marilyn on the day she died and that Marilyn had uttered her killer's name. Apparently her mother was unwilling to reveal that name even when questioned by the FBI. In fact, she died refusing to ever tell her family the killer's identity for fear of retaliation.
10. Shorty and I decided to talk to the pathologist again about the autopsy but after talking to him we realized that we were up against a brick wall. What did he tell us?

Answer: All the slides and notes from the autopsy had disappeared

After the autopsy report, which was never made public, all the slides and photographs of the autopsy mysteriously disappeared. Although reluctant, Dr. Noguchi, the pathologist, had no alternative but to sign his report stating that Marilyn had swallowed an overdose which led to her death. It was his contention that a suppository of Nembutal may have been administered.
