Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1922, Veronica Lake first appeared in films in 1941. Her first leading role was in the film "Sullivan's Travels". Both she and the film were well-received. Unfortunately, as actors sometimes do in their later years, Veronica made a low-budget horror film titled "Flesh Feast" which turned out to be her last film role.

The girl with the peek-a-boo hair died of renal failure in 1973.

When Norma Jeane Mortensen was born in 1926, the identity of her biological father was already shrouded in mystery. Her mother changed Norma's birth certificate to read Norma Jeane Baker, not Mortensen, to correspond to the name of her first husband. Illegitimacy was a taboo subject in those days. I firmly believe that Marilyn's emotional problems and drug dependency stemmed from her unstable childhood.

Her final film, "The Misfits", was fraught with problems, many of which were directly linked to Marilyn herself.

She died at age 36 in 1962.

Doris left her singing career to pursue acting. In the early years she sang with Gordan MacRae in films like "Tea for Two" and "On Moonlight Bay". She later starred with Hudson in the Oscar-nominated comedy "Pillow Talk". She once remarked that her girl-next-door image was a myth perpetuated by the movie studios in an effort to capitalize on her wholesome good looks.

Once Grace became Princess of Monaco, she left her acting career behind to focus on her royal responsibilities as well as raising three children. In her brief career as a movie actress she starred in films such as "To Catch a Thief" and "The Country Girl" for which she received an Academy Award nomination. Born Vera Jayne Palmer in 1933, Jayne Mansfield started her career by entering beauty pageants and modeling. With her physical attributes and plenty of ambition, she made it to Hollywood and starred in films such as "Too Hot To Handle" and "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter"? Jayne was married three times and bore five children.

Her daughter, Mariska, is best known for her role as a detective on the long-running TV crime series "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit".

Anyone who has ever watched the film "Psycho" will never forget that shower scene. Janet forged a successful film career long before she filmed that famous scene. "Touch of Evil" and "The Manchurian Candidate" are two of the many films in which she appeared. One of my all-time favorite Christmas movies, "Holiday Affair", stars Janet Leigh and Robert Mitchum.

It's a delightful holiday movie.

Meryl's ability to disappear into her roles and speak with authentic accents sets her apart from run-of-the-mill actresses. Her spot-on impersonation of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, English accent included, earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2011.

This prolific actress has worked on stage as well as in films and television. In 1977 she made her film debut in "Julia". She received her first Best Actress Oscar for the 1979 movie "Kramer vs Kramer".

Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon starred in her first film, "The Man in the Moon", in 1991. In 2005 she received a Best Actress Oscar for her role as June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line". Although Reese's last few films have not fared well at the box office, she continues to be in demand for movie roles.

Blake was born in Los Angeles, California in 1987. Her parents and siblings have all been involved in show business, so it was a natural step for Blake to follow them. She has successfully made the transition from TV to film. Blake has starred in the films "Green Lantern", "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", and "Savages".

She first appeared on screen in the film "Sandman" which was directed by her father.
