Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was Emma born?

Answer: Paris

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France on April 15th, 1990, at 6:00 pm. April 15th, 1990 was a Sunday. She was named after her paternal grandmother.
2. What is Emma's mother named?

Answer: Jacqueline Luesby

Her mother, Jacqueline Luesby, and her father, Chris Watson, are both lawyers by profession. They divorced in 1995, so five-year-old Emma moved to Oxfordshire with her mother and her younger brother, Alex.

Emma not only has her full-blood brother, Alex, to claim, but also two step-brothers from her mother's partner, with one half-brother and two half-sisters from her father.
3. What was Emma's first film role?

Answer: Hermione Granger in the "Harry Potter" series

Young Emma hadn't done any professional work before. At the ripe old age of six, she wanted to become an actress, and she was indulged in this by being allowed to participate at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts. She performed in various plays, but it wasn't until 1999 that she auditioned and got the part in "Harry Potter" (which she had to audition for eight times to get).
4. Where did Emma graduate high school from?

Answer: Headington School

Emma, like the character she played in "Harry Potter", makes wonderful grades. She is modest about it, stating on the Rosie O'Donnell show that "my grades are sort of average-y". She was rumored to have been accepted into an Ivy League school, but Emma refused to confirm any of the rumors, saying that when she decided what school to go to, she would let her fans know.
5. Emma won a Young Artist Award for Best Ensemble in Feature Film for "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone".

Answer: False

Even though she didn't win the award for 'Best Ensemble in Feature Film', she won a Young Artist award for 'Best Performance in a Feature Film - Leading Young Actress' in the same year, for the same project. She was also nominated for three other awards that year (2002) but did not win them.
6. Emma read the "Harry Potter" books before being cast in the "Harry Potter" movies.

Answer: True

Emma was actually a big fan of the books, and when she auditioned, she was set on getting the part of Hermione. Emma said, on "The David Letterman Show", that her parents were trying to let her down gently, reminding her that millions of girls wanted the part. Emma said that "if I hadn't gotten the part, 'devastated' would not have described how I would have felt'." In other words, it was a very good thing she got the part.
7. Which charity did Emma design a plate for in 2009?

Answer: Mission Nutrition

The popular BBC children's show, "Blue Peter", had a charity auction for their charity "Blue Peter's Mission Nutrition". The charity's purpose was to bring food to starving children, and to teach them how to grow their own food.

A few other celebrities who designed plates for the online auction were Hugh Dancy, Andy Serkis and Claire Danes. All plates had a starting price of £10. After the ten day auction ended, Emma's plate sold for £698.78. Way to go, Emma!
8. In what film did Emma yell, as Hermione, "You! You foul, loathsome, evil little cockroach!"?

Answer: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

Hermione was mad at Draco Malfoy, once again, and this time expressed it in a way she normally did not. Draco was laughing about the plans to kill Buckbeak, a hippogriff, and Hermione just couldn't take it. She gave him a good punch, afterward commenting that "That felt good".
9. The cat that played Crookshanks is actually Emma's own cat.

Answer: False

No, the cat that played Crookshanks was NOT Emma's cat. In "The Prisoner of Azkaban" Hermione got a cat, who had a tendency to attack and taunt Ron's rat, Scabbers. As it turned out, Scabbers was actually a wizard pretending to be a rat. Crookshanks was quite a large cat and ginger colored. Crookshanks only seemed to like Hermione and Sirius throughout the book and film series.

Although the cat playing Crookshanks was not Emma's own cat, she has been known to have own a cat named Bubbles. Emma's brother, Alex, owned a cat named Domino.
10. Who did Emma play in "The Tale of Despereaux"?

Answer: Princess Pea

"The Tale of Despereaux" was released on December 25th, 2008. Adapted from the book written by Kate DiCamillo, the story followed a mouse named Despereaux whose mission was to save a beautiful princess.

Princess Pea was beautiful, but very lonely. Princess Pea did not like being told what to do, being used to telling others what to do. When she got kidnapped, Desperaux, who was in love with her, went to save her.

The character named "India Opal" I got from Kate DiCamillo's "Because of Winn-Dixie"; the character of "Mrs. Fieldmouse" from "Thumbelina"; "Alice Syndicated" was something silly I made up on the spot.
