Cowboy Copas' first solo single was "Filipino Baby" which made No. 4 on the "Billboard" country chart. In 1960 he released "Alabam", the biggest hit of his career, which stayed at No. 1 on the chart for three months.
Copas is buried in Goodlettsville, Tennessee.
