Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which National Football League (NFL) player had his first career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and then went on to a second career as a television personality?

Answer: Terry Bradshaw

Terry Bradshaw played American football for the Pittsburgh Steelers for fourteen years before retiring in 1983 due to an arm injury. He took his bald head into television and movies, where he became a commentator on "Fox NFL Sunday" in 1994. He has also starred in some films, including "Failure to Launch" (2006), which also starred Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker.
2. Paul Shaffer was the band leader on David Letterman's late-night television show. Where was he born?

Answer: Fort William, Ontario

Paul Shaffer was born in Fort a William, later to become Thunder Bay, Ontario. The band that he led as a bald keyboard player was formed in 1982 to become David Letterman's house band. The show was originally on the NBC television network. While there, the band was called "The World's Most Dangerous Band".

When the show moved to the CBC network, the band was not allowed to take the name with them due to intellectual property rights. After David Letterman's show went off the air, the band was able to re-form using their original name because trademark rules had expired.
3. James Taylor is an amazing singer/songwriter. Which of the following songs did he NOT write?

Answer: You've Got a Friend

James Taylor is credited with writing many songs over the years. However, one of the most famous songs that he sings was actually written by Carole King for the album "Tapestry" (1971). The two actually recorded the song at the same time, using shared musicians.

In fact, the song was honoured with two Grammy Awards that year, one for James Taylor (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance) and one for Carole King (Song of the Year).
4. Which tennis player won a Gold Medal in tennis at the 1996 Olympics?

Answer: Andre Agassi

Besides winning the Olympic Gold Medal in 1996, Andre Agassi won many tennis tournaments over the years. In 1994, he became the first unseeded player to win the US Open. He shaved his balding head in 1995, and has gone with the bald look ever since. Agassi was active as a tennis pro from 1986-2006.
5. On "Seinfeld", what was the bald main character's last name?

Answer: Costanza

Jason Alexander played "George Costanza" on "Seinfeld" from 1989-1998. Alexander played Jerry Seinfeld's best friend since childhood on the show. His bald look is unmistakable on the show, with the other male actors sporting full heads of hair. In fact, his co-star Michael Richards, who played Cosmo Kramer, not only sported a full head of hair, it was often somewhat long and unkempt.
6. Guitar player Pete Townsend played with a band from 1961-1964 that had to change its name because an existing band already used the same moniker. What was the original name of the band that became "The Who"?

Answer: The Detours

Roger Daltrey led a five-man band that included Pete Townsend on acoustic guitar from 1961-1963. After receiving a recording contract, the band became aware of another band with the same name so they were forced to find a new name. Townsend's roommate came up with the name "The Who" and it stuck. Of course, Townsend had plenty of hair back in the 1960s.

He has gone bald and seems to have embraced his looks as the years have progressed.
7. On September 6, 1995, which Major League Baseball player broke Lou Gehrig's record for most consecutive games played?

Answer: Cal Ripken, Jr.

Many believed Lou Gehrig's record would be unbreakable until Cal Ripken, Jr. came along. Ripken played his entire career for the Baltimore Orioles. Over those 21 seasons, he played shortstop and third base. His record of 2,632 games played may never be broken at this point. Maybe the lack of hair helped to balance his stance at the plate or something.

He sure was one of baseball's greats.
8. Which actor was on the "Dick Van Dyke Show" with hair in the 1960s, and in "Hot in Cleveland" without hair in the 2010s?

Answer: Carl Reiner

Carl Reiner is a very prolific actor, writer and director of films and television. He played Alan Brady on "The Dick Van Dyke Show" from 1961-1966. On that show, he wore a toupee for his on-screen shots. From 2010-14, he played Elka's boyfriend Max Miller on "Hot in Cleveland". Carl Reiner has appeared in many other movies and television shows with his balding crown.

He is also father to Rob Reiner, who played "Meathead" in "All in the Family". Incidentally, son Rob is also a famous and successful bald actor, writer, and director.
9. What colour is the famous hairless performing group that started in New York City, but has expanded around the world?

Answer: Blue

"The Blue Man Group" started out as a group of friends in New York City that came together to celebrate the end of the 1980s with street performances. Initially, they wore blue masks, but now paint their bald heads blue during their performances. The group moved from performing in the streets to performing in a theatre in New York. Over the years it expanded until being purchased by by Cirque du Soleil in 2017.

This successful bald blue group has performed in cities across the US, as well as in countries around the world.
10. Sean Connery was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

Answer: True

Sean Connery is a famous actor who doesn't seem to mind his baldness. Early in his career as James Bond, the male pattern baldness seemed to be beginning. In the 1980s and 1990s, in films such as "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and "The Hunt for Red October", Connery appears with an obviously bald head.

He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II at an investiture ceremony at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh in 2000, a fitting place for the proud Scotsman that he is.
