Question 2 of 10
2. 1938. This film stars the Marx Brothers. They decide to put on a play before their landlord finds out they have no money. Classic comedy from the guys. Lucille plays Christine. Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. 1939. This film is not a musical or a comedy, and Lucille really has a chance to show off her talent as a more dramatic actress. She plays Jean Russell, a girl who has been jilted by a man by the name of Denny who marries another woman for her money. Jean decides to try to make a go of a line of cosmetic products and tries to get help from a dozen society matrons. One woman helps out--that being the woman Denny married instead of Jean. Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. 1940. This next film is one of my personal favorites. Lucille plays Consuelo Casey, a girl who is quite stressful to her father. Richard Carlson plays Clint Kelly, the man that Consuelo falls in love with at Potowatomie University. It was on the set of this film that Lucille and Desi Arnaz met for the first time. Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. 1943. This movie stars 3 of my favorite celebrities (well, those NOT in the horror genre): Lucy, Gene Kelly and Red Skelton. Red Skelton plays Louis Blore who is in love with May Daly (Lucille). But she is in love with dancer Alec Howe. Fortunately, this movie is a comedy. ;) Anyway, Louis gets hit on the head and dreams he's King Louis XV. Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. 1947. We come now to my favorite film of the 10 that I have listed here. Lucille stars as Sandra Carpenter, a dancer whose friend has been murdered by the "poet killer". She goes to work for Scotland Yard to help them apprehend the murderer. Very suspenseful film. Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. 1954. This is the first film that Lucy and Desi did during the success of "I Love Lucy". They play Nicky and Tacy Collini, a couple who decided to drive cross country for their honeymoon. Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. 1963. After her divorce from Desi and "I Love Lucy", Lucille continued on. This was not the first film she did after the show ended, but it's the first one I've seen. It pairs her again opposite Bob Hope. He plays a critic for a paper and his wife has written a play. When the time comes for him to review it he shows up drunk. Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. 1968. He has 10 kids, she has 8. This film stars Lucy with Henry Fonda, a screwball comedy about a couple (Helen North and Frank Beardsley) that meet, fall in love and then marry--and also happen to have 18 kids between them. Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. 1974. This film was a remake of the 1958 version starring Rosalind Russell. Lucy plays an eccentric, wealthy fun-loving lady who loves to party and has a great sense of humor. Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 1933. This film is sometimes credited (most notably in her autobiography) as Lucy's very first film. She played a slave girl in an uncredited bit part.

Answer: Roman Scandals

In her autobiography, "Love, Lucy", Lucy talks about this film as her first. However, at www.imdb.com, they name "The Bowery" as her first. Hmm---any ideas on this?
2. 1938. This film stars the Marx Brothers. They decide to put on a play before their landlord finds out they have no money. Classic comedy from the guys. Lucille plays Christine.

Answer: Room Service

I think I've made it pretty obvious that I haven't gotten around to seeing this film yet. But it is classic Marx Brothers, so that means it's a must-see for me.

Answer: Beauty for the Asking

This film held my interest very well. I was flicking through the channels and stopped at this film because I saw Lucy. I was greatly impressed with her versatility. It's sometimes hard for me to think of her as anything but a comedienne. She was truly down to earth playing the betrayed Jean, trying to help Denny stay with his wife even though she still loved him. And just when she thinks that Denny will leave his wife for her, he jilts her again. GRRR. What a bum.

At least Jean has the affections of Jeff to keep her occupied.

He was with the cosmetic business from the beginning.

Answer: Too Many Girls

This was one of the very first movies of Lucy's that I saw. It's not exactly "Singin' in the Rain", but it's cute. One of those movies to watch if you're sick in bed and want to see a typical old fashioned musical.

Answer: DuBarry Was A Lady

This is also not "Singin' in the Rain", but I liked it. It more than likely was a vehicle for the 3 stars in the movie, but again, I liked it. It was just really....adorable. It was nice to see Lucy and Red Skelton in color, considering every episode of "The Red Skelton Show" I have is from the 50's.

The same goes for Lucy. As for Gene--well, we always see him in color. It was a bit of a disappointment that he had only 1 solo dance number, but, what can you do?
6. 1947. We come now to my favorite film of the 10 that I have listed here. Lucille stars as Sandra Carpenter, a dancer whose friend has been murdered by the "poet killer". She goes to work for Scotland Yard to help them apprehend the murderer. Very suspenseful film.

Answer: Lured

This movie has a very talented cast. Lucy is in the lead along with George Sanders as Robert Fleming, Sir Cedric Harwicke as Julian Wilde, Charles Coburn as Inspector Temple, and a guest appearance by Boris Karloff as Charles Van Druten. It is truly an awesome suspense murder mystery. I was stunned when they found the murderer.

But I won't tell you the ending---go out and rent it. Or buy it, it's worth the money.
7. 1954. This is the first film that Lucy and Desi did during the success of "I Love Lucy". They play Nicky and Tacy Collini, a couple who decided to drive cross country for their honeymoon.

Answer: The Long, Long Trailer

Tacy and Nicky--hmm. Not a very far cry from Lucy and Ricky. It always struck me as funny. This film did extremely well in 1954, with its constant shenanigans and Tacy's Lucy Ricardo-like schemes. This was truly a full length "I Love Lucy". Perhaps that was why it did so well.

Answer: Critic's Choice

This film didn't do as well as "Fancy Pants" and "The Facts of Life", but I kind of liked it. Lucy plays Angela Ballantine and Bob is Parker Ballantine. It didn't strike me as too funny, which is ashame considering the two stars.
9. 1968. He has 10 kids, she has 8. This film stars Lucy with Henry Fonda, a screwball comedy about a couple (Helen North and Frank Beardsley) that meet, fall in love and then marry--and also happen to have 18 kids between them.

Answer: Yours, Mine, and Ours

This is one of the best movies that Lucy did in the 60's. Everything is funny in this movie, from the shopping checkout line to the breakfast for 20. Whew! I can't imagine having 17 other people in my house! And on top of all that, Mrs. Beardsley winds up pregnant with baby #19. Great movie.
10. 1974. This film was a remake of the 1958 version starring Rosalind Russell. Lucy plays an eccentric, wealthy fun-loving lady who loves to party and has a great sense of humor.

Answer: Mame

This film did not have the same flair and gusto that the version with Rosalind Russell had. It really wasn't very funny which, like Critic's Choice, is a shame. I always wondered why this film was remade in the first place. Oh well, at least Lucy had her television show "Here's Lucy" to fall back on.

She will always be my favorite funny lady, regardless if she's in a movie or a TV show.
