In 2018, Director Gary Ross decided to celebrate girl-power and created a story revolving around the sister of the protagonist of the "Ocean's 11", "12" and "13" stories. The premise here is that Debbie Ocean, played by Sandra Bullock, has gathered seven of her talented and morally-ambiguous female friends to pull off the heist of the century at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala in New York City. Debbie has just gotten out of jail herself, and is trying to figure out how to go on after her older brother Danny's death. Anne Hathaway plays Daphne Kluger, a socialite who wears the lovely jewelry that the Ocean's 8 crew intends to steal. The movie is a fun romp, and though critics claimed that it was not as good as its predecessors, it did well at the box office and showed off the talents of a bevy of gifted actresses.

Fantine is a young woman forced into prostitution through a series of heartbreaking events. She does everything, up to losing her life, to care for her young daughter, and shows off her singing talents as well. The film focuses on different character with whom Valjean comes in contact during the years after the French Revolution, and it is a tour de force. Some critics hated the "live singing" method used in the movie, which had the actors sing their parts as if it were a stage play, without edits or enhancements. Others praised it as brilliant. Whatever you think, the movie was filmed beautifully, and Anne gave an intense and richly-portrayed performance.

Anne's performance as a host of the Oscars was better received than that of her co-host, James Franco. Some thought he was lackluster and bored, and as a result, boring. Perhaps it was because that very same year he was nominated for the movie "127 Hours", in which he played a hiker who had run into trouble while trekking in a deserted area, falling into a crevasse and having to hack off his own arm to survive. The only movie that Anne has appeared in with Ledger is 2005's "Brokeback Mountain". Anne played Lureen, the wife of Heath's character's (Ennis') secret lover, Jack, (played by Jake Gyllenhall). Ennis' wife Alma, was played by Heath's real-life partner at the time, Michelle Williams. The story tells of two outwardly "normal" cowboys who meet and discover their great love and attraction for each other, and then hide their relationship for the next 20 years, due to the rigidity and lack of acceptance of homosexuality in the society of that time.

Of the other movies listed, Heath Ledger was in "The Dark Knight" (2008) as "the Joker". Ledger did not appear in the subsequent "Batman" movie that Anne was in, "The Dark Knight Returns" (2012), because he had already died of a drug overdose when it was made. "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006) was a movie that Anne starred in as Andy opposite the boss from Hell, Miranda, played by Meryl Streep.
