Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Leonardo DiCaprio appeared in a lot of television advertisements, and 2 television series before his first feature film appearance. What is the name of Leo's first film?

Answer: Critters 3

In 'Critters 3' (1991) Leonardo DiCaprio plays a boy named Josh. The film has the same basic storyline as the original 'Critters', and 'Critters 2', where teenagers are trapped in an apartment when hairy creatures begin to attack them. He starred next to John Calvin, Aimee Brooks, Christian and Joseph Cousins.
Before this film, he appeared in 'Parenthood' and 'Santa Barbara' which were both TV series.
2. 'Romeo + Juliet' was a movie based on the play by William Shakespeare. Leonardo played Romeo, but who starred as his Juliet?

Answer: Claire Danes

'Romeo + Juliet' was released in 1996 and was directed by Baz Luhrmann. Claire Danes starred as Juliet, a young girl who was ruled by the rich and powerful family she came from (Capulets). She fell in love with Romeo (Leo) who was a man who spoke from his heart about everything and was the perfect match for Juliet.

The only problem was, he was from the Montague family, the one family she was not permitted to love.
3. In what film did Leonardo play a character called Frank Abagnale Junior?

Answer: Catch Me If You Can

'Catch Me If You Can' was released in 2002 and was based upon the true story of Frank Abagnale Jr., who Leo played in the film. Frank was a master of copying cheques and was constantly on the run from the police for many years. Leo starred next to Tom Hanks in this movie.

In 2002, Leo released both 'Catch Me If You Can' and 'Gangs of New York' to help him make a come-back into the acting world as he had some down time before that.
4. Which of these movies has a character, whom Leo played, that best suits this description: "The story of a man who finds true love with the one woman his family forbids him to love"?

Answer: Romeo + Juliet

The Shakespearean play of 'Romeo and Juliet' is modernized in this film, but the original story line and script/wording is used. The story follows the lives of two teenagers whose families despise each other (the Capulets & the Montagues), but the two teenagers meet and fall in love, against their parents wishes.

The story shows us what some people would do just to spend a moment with the one they love. The quote used above fits the story line because Romeo is the man who finds true love with Juliet (who is the one woman his family forbids him to love, because their families despise each other).
5. In which film is Leo a member of an allegedly unbeatable high school basketball team?

Answer: The Basketball Diaries

In 'The Basketball Diaries' (1995), Leo plays Jim Carrol. He stars next to Lorraine Bracco, Marilyn Sokol, Patrick Mcgraw, Mark Wahlberg and many others. The movie is directed by Scott Kalvert, and is based on the real life of Jim Carrol, and his experiences as a teenager who was brought up around the world of drugs.
6. Leonardo DiCaprio's character in 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?' was based on Leo's personal life experiences.

Answer: False

In 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?' Leonardo plays Arnie Grape, who is a mentally challenged boy growing up in small town where "nothing much has happened, and nothing much ever will". Arnie is getting ready to celebrate his 18th birthday, but his family is worried because he could go any day.

Some critics and viewers have said that after his amazing performance as Arnie Grape, they believed that he had a real-life mental disorder.
7. Which of the following actors below has Leonardo NOT starred next to in a film?

Answer: Catherine Zeta-Jones

Leo has starred next to Eliza Dushku in 'This Boy's Life' (1993), next to Johnny Depp in 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?' (1993) and next to Cate Blanchett in the 2004 movie 'The Aviator'. Catherine Zeta-Jones has starred in a T.V. version of 'The Titanic', but Leonardo was in the movie version.
8. Which of the following Leonardo DiCaprio films is this tagline from? "Think You're Quick Enough?"

Answer: The Quick and the Dead (1995)

The 'Quick and the Dead' (1995) saw Leo acting beside Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman and Russel Crowe. In this western movie, Leo plays a boy known through the movie as 'The Kid'. "Think you're quick enough?", fits the film because the movie shows us how you need to be quick, or you will be dead. So the tagline is saying "Think you're quick enough?" [to avoid death].
9. Which of these Leonardo DiCaprio films also starred Cameron Diaz?

Answer: Gangs of New York

Leonardo plays Amsterdam Vallon in the 2002 movie, 'Gangs of New York'. He also starred next to Liam Neeson, Jim Broadbent and Daniel-Day Lewis. The film was directed by Martin Scorsese. 'Gangs of New York' is about the violent riots in New York during 1846 and 1863. Amsterdam is trying to find and kill the man who killed his father.
10. What character and film of Leo's is this quote from? "I'm sorry, you're not gonna see your mom again for a long time, 'cause we're going to America. Full house boys! Woohoo!"

Answer: Jack Dawson in 'Titanic'

This quote is from the beginning of the film, when Jack and Fabrizio win 2 tickets on to the Titanic. Jack says this to confuse Fabrizio about whether they won or lost the game. 'Titanic' (1997) earned a total of 14 Academy Award Nominations, and won the Oscar for 11 of these, even though Leo didn't take one for Best Actor. 'Titanic' received some of the best critical reviews.

In 'Titanic' Leo plays Jack Dawson, who is poor and only wins a ticket on the boat from a lucky hand in a game of poker. On the journey that follows the real-life story of the Titanic ship, he falls in love with a elegant 1st class girl, and will always hold onto her.
