Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When was Gilda born?

Answer: June 28th, 1946

Gilda was born on 28th of June, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. She has an older brother named Michael. Her parents were Herman and Henrietta Radner.

Sadly, Gilda died on the 20th of May, 1989 of ovarian cancer.
2. Gilda played many popular characters on "Saturday Night Live". Choose the character she did not portray.

Answer: Linda Richmond

Gilda played Roseanne Roseannadanna on the "Weekend Update" segment of "Saturday Night Live" between 1977 and 1980. This character had the ability to gross out costar Jane Curtin with her discussion of other people's gross habits. Lisa Loopner was your basic loser type character, with horn rimmed glasses and frizzy hair. Lisa and her boyfriend Todd, played by Bill Murray were your typical teenagers giving each noogies. Emily Litella was a little old lady character who did not hear very well. She would lecture you on something she thought she heard. When she was corrected by Jane Curtin (on the news desk), her response was.. "Never mind". Classic!

Linda Richmond was the host of "Coffee Talk" and was played by Mike Meyers.
3. Gilda was once married to a guitar player from "Saturday Night Live"?

Answer: True

Gilda married G.E. Smith in 1980 and divorced him in 1982. He played lead guitar on "Saturday Night Live" between 1985 and 1995. He also toured with Bob Dylan during his tenure at "SNL". He was the lead guitarist for Hall and Oates from 1979 - 1985.
4. What was the name of the movie that Gilda starred in with Bob Newhart in 1980?

Answer: First Family

There is no such movie as "The Bob Newhart Movie". "Ordinary People" (1980) was a great movie starring Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland and Timothy Hutton. The movie was about a death in the family and how the family moved on. "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979) was a great movie with Meryl Streep and Dustin Hoffman. This movie dealt with a couple getting divorced and it affects the them and their child.

"First Family" (1980) starred Bob Newhart, Gilda Radner, Madeline Kahn and was written and directed by Buck Henry. This movie had Bob as the president of the United States. Gilda was the first daughter. The "First Family" traveled to an African country where the First Daughter was kidnapped and white Americans were traded as slaves.
5. One of my favourite characters that Gilda played was a young girl usually dressed in a brownie uniform. What was her name?

Answer: Judy Miller

This "over the top" character's named was Judy Miller. She was frequently banished to her room so she would not disturb her family. She would entertain her toys and stuffed animals with "The Judy Miller Show". Judy even provided the commercials during her show. She would jump on top of her bed and bounce all over her room. I think this showed what a one woman show she could be.
6. What is the name of Gilda's autobiography?

Answer: It's Always Something

"It's Always Something" is the name of her autobiography. This line was from her character, Roseanne Roseannadanna. There are no autobiographical books about Gilda Radner named "Never Mind", "Live from New York" or "Noogie Patrol".
7. In 1988, Gilda was a guest on what late night television show (which aired on "Showtime" in the US and "The Comedy Network" in Canada) where she used her humour to deflect away from her fight for her life?

Answer: It's the Garry Shandling Show

The name of the show was "It's the Garry Shandling Show" (1986-1990). It was a refreshing show where Garry spoke to the camera directly. On this particular show, Garry asked where Gilda had been. Her answer was "Oh, I had cancer, what did you have?". "Very bad career moves" was his answer. Sadly this was Gilda's last interview for television.
8. Gilda won what award in 1990, after her death?

Answer: A Grammy

Gilda won a "Grammy" for "Best Spoken Word or Non-Musical Recording" in 1990 for recording of her autobiography "It's Always Something" in the Spoken genre. This recording is an amazingly personal view of Gilda's life, after her diagnosis of cancer.
9. Gilda won an "Emmy" award for her work on "Saturday Night Live".

Answer: True

Gilda won a "Emmy" award in 1978 for her work on "Saturday Night Live" in 1977. Her award was for "Outstanding Continuing or Single Performance by a Supporting Actress in Variety or Music". I definitely agree with her winning any awards.
10. Gilda Radner and her husband at the time of her death, Gene Wilder, were in several movies together. Pick the movie that they did not appear together in.

Answer: Young Frankenstein

Gilda and Gene appeared in "Hanky Panky" (1982). This film was directed by the great Sidney Poitier. The best way to describe this movie was mistaken identity. "The Woman in Red" (1984) was a very funny movie starring Gene Wilder and Kelly LeBrock. The premise of this movie, was Mr. Wilder seeing this amazing woman in a red dress and he went about trying to meet her. Gilda was a bit player who wanted Mr. Wilder. In "Haunted Honeymoon" (1986), Gene played Larry Abbot who was a radio announcer of a "Mystery Theatre" who wanted to marry. The movie followed that weak premise. Gilda got top billing in this movie.

Gilda did not appear in "Young Frankenstein" (1974).
