The quote is from the movie "Blazing Saddles" (1974). Sheriff Bart is attempting to convince the citizens of Rock Ridge to help him clean up the town. The citizens were reluctant. He reminded them, "You would do it for Randolph Scott". They then all stand, put their hands over their hearts and repeat adoringly "Randolph Scott", which is then repeated by off-screen voices.

Sheriff Bart was played by Cleavon Little. The film also stars Mel Brooks, Harvey Korman, Madeline Kahn and Gene Wilder. It was directed by Mel Brooks.

Randolph Scott (January 23, 1898 to March 2, 1987) was born in Orange County, Virginia. Orange County is in the north-central Piedmont region of the state. He was born to a wealthy family and attended private schools. He was an exceptional athlete and swam as well as playing football and baseball. He was also an avid horseback rider.

After the war Randolph went to Georgia Tech and then to the University of North Carolina. He wanted to be a football player, but was unable to play due to a back injury. Hughes arranged for Scott's first movie role in "Sharp Shooters" (1928). He also appeared in "Weary River"(1929), "The Virginian" (1929) and "Hot Saturday" (1932). His early roles were mostly bit parts.

Scott played Tony Kent in 1938's "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm". Shirley Temple starred along with William Demarest, Gloria Stuart, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson, Jack Haley and Slim Summerville. The movie tells the story of an orphan (Temple) after winning a radio audition to represent a breakfast cereal. Scott does not sing in the film.

"The Spoilers" was a story of the Alaskan gold rush. Scott played the evil bad guy, 'Alexander McNamara'. The film climaxed with Wayne and Scott in a memorable fistfight.

Randolph met Grant while filming "Hot Saturday" not long after this they began sharing a beach house in Malibu, California. It was rumored, but not proven that the two actors were romantically involved. Scott was married twice and linked romantically to actresses Lupe Velez, Claire Trevor and Dorothy Lamour.

They worked so well together that Universal studios used them again in 1942's "Pittsburgh". Also appearing in the movie was Shemp Howard, later to be in the Three Stooges, in a dramatic role. The other movies starred Randolph Scott, but not the other two stars.

Scott invested his film salaries quite well when he died his estate was reported to have been worth a reputed $100 million. He died of heart and lung ailments in Beverly Hills, California. He is buried in Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte, North Carolina.
