Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "MythBusters" co-host Jamie Hyneman owns the company at which much of the series is filmed. What is the name of the company?

Answer: M5 Industries

M5 Industries is involved directly and indirectly with visual-effects works for television commercials and major motion pictures. Among the many movies M5 has worked on are "The Right Stuff", "Top Gun" and "RoboCop". One of the more memorable special effects M5 has created is a 7-up "vending tank" robot, capable of traveling at 20 miles per hour over any terrain and shooting cans of soft drinks, for a series of 7-up commercials.
2. Co-host Adam Savage, an accomplished designer and builder who provides much of the comedy on "MythBusters", has a background in entertainment. In fact, in his younger days, he was featured as a stockboy in a commercial for which product?

Answer: Charmin toilet paper

Adam appeared with the late Dick Wilson, who played Mr. Whipple, in a Charmin commercial in the 1980s. But Savage's experience isn't just limited to commercials. He also provided voices for animated characters on the children's show "Sesame Street" and was featured as a drowning man being plucked to safety in the video for the Billy Joel song "You're Only Human (Second Wind)".

His special-effects portfolio includes work on the movies "Space Cowboys", "The Matrix Reloaded" and "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines".
3. Build Team member Kari Byron, the youngest of the regular cast of "MythBusters", once had a job doing undercover taste testing. Exactly what, though, did Kari do taste-testing on?

Answer: Martinis

Kari Byron is nearly four years younger than fellow Build Team members Tori Belleci and Grant Imahara who, themselves, were born just one week apart in October 1970 (Grant on October 23 and Tory on October 30). Kari revealed her unusual previous job during an interview on a January, 2006, episode of "The Late Show With David Letterman".

Her involvement with "MythBusters" began with the second pilot episode (originally aired January 23, 2003), in which a mold of her buttocks was used to disprove the myth of the Vacuum Plane Toilet.
4. Build Team member Grant Imahara, who worked with fellow MythBuster Jamie Hyneman and Tory Belleci on other projects before becoming a permanent fixture on the show, is a member of what professional organization?

Answer: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

In February, 2006, Grant Imahara was featured in an article in the "IEEE Spectrum", the magazine of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He also announced in one episode that he is a member of the organization. During his nine years at Industrial Light & Magic, he worked with fellow MythBuster Tory Belleci on two of the "Star Wars" prequels ("The Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones").

He also competed against Jamie Hyneman on the Comedy Central series "BattleBots". Imahara holds a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California.
5. Build Team member Tory Belleci usually takes on the more dangerous stunts, such as licking a frozen flag pole and waiting in a ring to see if a bull will charge him and his red suit. Tory is a graduate of which institution?

Answer: San Francisco State

Both Tory Belleci and fellow Build Team member Kari Byron are alumni of San Francisco State University. On more than one occasion, though, Tory has been seen on the show in a T-shirt bearing the University of Nevada's colors and logo. An expert model maker, Belleci, whose first name is really Salvatore, has worked on numerous movies, including "Galaxy Quest", "Starship Troopers" and "Van Helsing".
6. Former Build Team member Scottie Chapman, known for her many tattoos and her welding skills, was given what nickname during her time on "MythBusters"?

Answer: Mistress of Metal

An expert in welding and metal craft, Scottie Chapman was a regular on "MythBusters" for two seasons. She has also taught metal fabrication to high-school students and played bass guitar in several underground bands, including one dedicated to covering Black Sabbath songs. Chapman returned to the fold briefly for the two-hour "Supersized Myths" episode (originally aired November 14, 2007).
7. The first "MythBusters" intern, or MythTern, was Christine Chamberlain, who spent one season on the show. Which of the following statements about Christine is FALSE?

Answer: She was born in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Born in Washington, DC, and raised in Northern Virginia, Christine Chamberlain was featured during the second season of "MythBusters". Both she and Adam Savage suffered mild burns when a heated jawbreaker exploded during an experiment (the episode originally aired October 27, 2004). She assisted with a number of other myths as well, including Ming Dynasty Astronaut and Salsa Escape.
8. Jess Nelson, the second MythTern, made her first appearance on "MythBusters" as part of a competition to test what myth?

Answer: Archimedes' Death Ray

The "Myth of Archimedes' Death Ray" (originally aired January 25, 2006) was actually a retest of the Ancient Death Ray myth (originally aired September 29, 2004), in which the MythBusters thought they had busted the idea of mirrors being used as weapons of war. Nelson teamed up with fellow student Kari Lukes of the University of California, Santa Barbara, to go up against a two-man team to show off their own death rays.

She would later be introduced officially as a MythTern in the "Whirlpool of Death" episode (originally aired July 26, 2006). Nelson holds a degree in mechanical engineering from UCSB.
9. Folklorist Heather Joseph-Witham appeared in the first two seasons of "MythBusters" to provide more background on various myths. Joseph-Witham received her PhD in Folklore and Mythology from which institution?

Answer: UCLA

Heather Joseph-Witham appeared in the first 19 episodes of "MythBusters", including all three pilot episodes. In addition to her work on "MythBusters", Joseph-Witham has also lent her expertise to other television shows, including "The X-Files", "The Other Side" and "Biography", as well as commentary on the DVD release of the motion picture "Final Destination 3".

She is an associate professor in the Liberal Arts & Sciences Department at the Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.
10. Buster, the non-animated MythBuster who started life as a crash-test dummy, has appeared in numerous episodes to help test various myths. In which myth, specifically, did Buster make his debut?

Answer: Exploding Toilet

Buster made his official "MythBusters" debut on the first regular episode of the series, which aired September 23, 2003. Adam and Jamie failed to blow Buster off his perch on the potty when they tested the myth that gasoline poured down a toilet would cause an explosion.
