Judy Garland changed her name for reasons that are unknown to most, though some say she liked the name Judy from a radio show she listened to. She then found the name Garland from a man who saw one of her performances saying that she looked "as pretty as a ring of garland."

She performed this during her parents' vaudeville performance. According to legend, after she finished, she loved the applause so much she started over...and over...and over, and didn't stop until her father dragged her off. Even then, it was said that you could still hear her singing back stage. She was only two years old.

They were wanting to cut down. It got down to between Garland and Durbin. Due to Garland being more popular in the strip, they kept her and cut Durbin.

Her first husband was David Rose (1941-1945). She married him when she was very young to rebel against the studio and her mother. However, pressures from the studio led to their ultimate divorce. Next she married Vincente Minnelli (1945-1951) whom she met during the filming of "Meet Me in St. Louis" (1944).

This marriage produced one daughter, famous actress and singer, Liza Minnelli. Soon afterwards she met Sidney "Sid" Luft (1951-1964). Their marriage was frowned upon by the studio, but they lasted much longer than anyone expected. From this marriage Garland had two children, Lorna and Joey Luft. Together, Garland and Luft made the movie "A Star is Born" (1954) which led to her first Academy Award nomination.

Afterwards she married Mark Herron (1964-1967), which ended due to him being homosexual.

Afterwards she married Mickey Deans (March 1969-June 1969). The marriage ended when Garland died.
