Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A second generation wrestler, Curt was the son of the infamous Larry "The Axe" Hennig. Very early in his career Curt teamed with his father to win a tag team title. Which title was that?

Answer: The Pacific Northwest Tag Team Title

The late Curt Hennig was the second son and the second of five children born to Larry and Irene Hennig. From a very young age Curt displayed his athletic prowess as he was a standout High School star in baseball, basketball and track. Curt ultimately decided to follow in his father's footsteps and pursue a wrestling career.

When the territories were still around, Portland promoter Don Owen ran one of the most successful of them. On April 27, 1982, the father and son team of Larry and Curt Hennig defeated Matt Borne and Rip Oliver to win The Pacific Northwest Tag Team Championship.

Their reign was brief as Oliver and Borne won the titles back just four days later.
2. On January 18, 1986 Hennig and another budding star defeated Jimmy Garvin and "Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal to win the AWA Tag Team Titles. Who was his partner?

Answer: Scott Hall

On January 18, 1986, Curt teamed with Scott Hall to defeat Jimmy Garvin and Steve Regal for the AWA Tag Team Titles. Although their reign lasted just four months and they lost the titles under strange circumstances (they lost via count out which should have let them retain the belts) one could see their tremendous talents. Later Hennig created the persona of "Mr Perfect", one of the biggest WWF stars from 1988-1993.

In 1992 Hall created the character of "Razor Ramon" who had multiple runs as WWF Intercontinental Champion. Later in 1996 he and Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan founded the infamous "NWO" in WCW.
3. On May 2, 1987, Curt defeated an aging Nick Bockwinkle to win the AWA Heavyweight Title. The Title was held up supposedly due to a controversial finish for a week, what was the real reason?

Answer: The WWF offered Hennig a Contract

After making a heel turn, Curt received a significant singles push which ultimately led to his winning The AWA Heavyweight Title from Nick Bockwinkle on May 2, 1987 at "Superclash II". Immediately afterward Vince McMahon swooped in and offered Curt a very lucrative deal to join the WWF.

The match had ended under controversial means with Larry Zbyszko slipping Hennig a roll of coins which he used to knock Bockwinkle cold with. While Hennig debated his decision, the AWA Title was temporarily "held up" with Curt eventually opting to remain with The Gagnes.
4. In early 1988, AWA Heavyweight Champion Curt Hennig took on a manager for the final months of his title reign. Who was it?

Answer: Diamond Dallas Page

Curt decided that a run as AWA Heavyweight Champion was in his best interests, even though the promotion was in decline. During his 1987 - 1988 title run Curt battled Wahoo McDaniel, Greg Gagne, Tom Zenk, Jerry Blackwell and even the late Ray Stevens.

In early 1988 Hennig began going by the moniker "Cool" Curt Hennig and introduced a very young Diamond Dallas Page as his manager. Ironically a decade later Hennig and Page, now a wrestler, feuded in WCW over The United States Heavyweight Title.
5. On November 24, 1988, the second annual "Survivor Series" saw Curt Hennig, "Mr. Perfect" survive his elimination match. Which partner survived the match with him?

Answer: Dino Bravo

In the fall of 1988, Curt Hennig made his long-awaited WWF arrival and was briefly known as "Mr Perfect" Curt Hennig before his name was dropped. On November 24, 1988 Hennig teamed with Andre the Giant, Rick Rude, Harley Race and Dino Bravo to defeat Jake Roberts, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Ken Patera, Tito Santana and Scott Casey.

Hennig pinned Jake Roberts to win the match for his team with both he and Bravo surviving the contest. Sadly, all but the legendary Harley Race, have died on that five man team: Andre and Bravo within months of each other in 1993, Rude in 1999, and Hennig in 2003.
6. On January 15, 1989, Mr. Perfect wrestled in the 1989 "Royal Rumble". What number did he draw for the contest?

Answer: Four

On January 15, 1989 at The Summit in Houston, Texas the WWF presented "The Royal Rumble" for the very first time as a pay per view event. The match featured all of the companies top stars including Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Demolition, Jake Roberts, Ted Dibiase and of course Perfect. Unfortunately he did not pick himself a perfect number as he entered the fray at number four just behind Demolition and Andre the Giant.

Hennig did wrestle incredibly well in the contest as he lasted more than twenty seven minutes before being ousted by Hulk Hogan.
7. "Wrestlemania VII" took place on March 24, 1991 and saw Mr. Perfect, now managed by Bobby Heenan, defend the WWF Intercontinental Title. Who was his opponent?

Answer: Big Boss Man

In the spring of 1990, after being managed by the obnoxious "Genius" aka Lanny Poffo, for a year Hennig joined the infamous "Heenan Family" led by Bobby Heenan. On March 24, 1991 at "Wrestlemania VII" Perfect, now in his second reign as WWF Intercontinental Champion, defended the title against The Big Boss Man.

Hennig lost the match by disqualification when his stablemates The Barbarian and Haku attacked The Boss Man. This was the climax to a feud that was started months before when Heenan, as a color commentator, began hurling insults at The Boss Man's mother.

The Lawman hoped that by defeating Perfect and taking his title it would avenge his mother's pride.
8. In the fall of 1996 Mr. Perfect, now a color commentator, cost this man the WWF Intercontinental Title, who was it?

Answer: Marc Mero

For weeks Mr Perfect had been raising the ire of the snobbish Hunter Hearst Helmsley by stealing his valets on weekly telecasts of "Raw". It all seemed to be heading toward Mr Perfect's return to active competition to work an angle against Hunter. Then in October 1996 Perfect caused Marc Mero to lose the WWF Intercontinental Title to Helmlsey, revealing they had actually been in on a rouse.

In all actuality Perfect was scheduled to make his return and feud with Helmsley but his nagging back problems prevented this.

Hennig quietly departed the WWF in late 1996 and arrived healthy in WCW in the summer of 1997.
9. What former WWF star and childhood friend served as Curt Hennig's manager in WCW during 1998?

Answer: Rick Rude

In the summer of 1997 Hennig joined WCW where he quickly betrayed "The Four Horsemen" and joined the infamous "NWO". In late 1997 Curt's childhood pal Rick Rude arrived in the promotion and began serving as his manager and muscle in matches. Briefly Hennig and Rude defected to the rival "Wolfpac" faction but soon betrayed them by attacking Konnan after he dropped a match against Bill Goldberg.

In late 1998 Rude left WCW and began to train for one last full time comeback which sadly was not meant to be.

In April 1999 Rude died suddenly due to drugs at the tender age of 40, another talent lost too young.
10. In January 2002, Mr. Perfect made his surprise return to the WWF, he was terminated in May after provoking an altercation on a plane with who?

Answer: Brock Lesnar

In January 2002, Mr. Perfect made his return to the WWF as a surprise entrant in that years "Royal Rumble". Although his return was supposedly for one night only the powers that be were so impressed with the ovation he got and how he performed that he was given a contract. Four months later he was terminated when he started a physical altercation with Brock Lesnar while on a plane trip.

The two got into it because Curt, always a ribber, began to pester Lesnar that he was the better wrestler from the state of Minnesota. Just nine months later Curt left us at the age of 44, leaving behind a wife and four kids, such a shame.
