Back before "Wrestlemania" came long and the WWF entered the realm of Pay Per View events, the monthly card at Madison Square Garden was where it was at. The hottest ticket in town from the 1960s right through the mid 1980s The Garden was often referred to by Gorilla Monsoon as "The Mecca" for Professional Wrestling. On February 20, 1984 Hulk Hogan fought Paul Orndorff in his very first WWF Title defense at Madison Square Garden. Orndorff would become a pesky challenger to Hogan over the next few years.

In the spring of 1984 Schultz and Hulk continued their feud in a very bloody series of bouts. Hulk Hogan and Antonio Inoki were the winners victorious over Andre The Giant. Inoki and Hogan then faced off against each other wrestling until the bell rang and brought the match to a close. Upon counting all the points, it was determined that Hogan held the most points and was thus ultimately handed the IWGP Heavyweight Title.
