Angus Depool had young Selbert committed to an asylum 20 years before, and this was his revenge. Both Selbert and his aunt claim he was wrongly committed. As the story progresses, we find they are both 'looped'. (Looped is Depool spelled backwards) When Dick Tracy comes calling, Selbert finds quarters in an indoor cistern which has a hinged watertight lid that held water. Aunty's granddaughter Myrna also lives in the house.

Answer: poisoned doorbell

While the doctors found the poison in Revol's body, Myrna had kicked her grandma down the stairs and escaped. When Dick Tracy returned to the mansion he is knocked out by Selbert, who puts him in the cistern. With the poisoned doorbell on the table, Selbert pushes Aunty's hand into it, then sets the house on fire, taking a box of his uncle's money in the process.
The story may seen corny, but with Chester Gould in control it works very well.

Chester Gould was master of the 'silent panel', usually the final panel of the day in which the picture said all that needed to be said. In this case it was simply a glove floating on the surface of the water with the caption "A glove floats to the surface, a woman's glove for the right hand".
The two gloves are put together along with the asylum shoes, and Tracy discovers where Clara worked.

The drivers of the float realize Selbert is inside and open the car up as they turn under a viaduct which is too low for the float. The impact kills Selbert.
Tracy is hit in the hip and spends time in the hospital.

Constable Ferret is also a midget. Their 16 year old daughter, Ginger, comes to the hospital to see her new brothers, having ridden with a know gangster called Trigger Doom. On their way back, Trigger knocks off a gas station and then loses control of his car on a curve during a police chase. Trigger is thrown free but Ginger burns to death in his car.

Trigger has the perfect hideaway on the dairy farm, which is modeled on Chester Gould's own farm near Woodstock, Illinois. His mistake is to send one of his henchmen to the Ferret's to retrieve Ginger's diary. The man gets caught and Tracy and Constable Ferret go to the farm looking for Trigger.

Answer: a bull

Constable Ferret shoots the bull as it charges Tracy (who is still on crutches).
During the commotion, Trigger Doom escapes in a milk truck.

Czar Rennis then calls on him to find out why Trigger hasn't delivered the slot machines as ordered. (Yes, Rennis is a sinner.)

Answer: to kill him

Trigger knows what Czar has planned, and tries to hire a killer to knock off Czar first. Trigger's hotel is just across the street from Czar's, and he takes a picture of the building to show the killer. The killer declines, however, and Trigger decides to do it himself.

Answer: the snapshot

Tracy realizes the picture is of the hotel across the street, and sees Czar's head and a stain creeping down the windowsill. They realize the picture could be evidence against Trigger. They find Trigger in another room he has rented and the camera is in a drawer.

Trigger is shown sweating under the lights and confesses to the murder of Czar because he knew Czar was going to kill him at their next meeting.
