Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the date of 'As Good As It Gets'?

Answer: September 20, 1997

ECW's 'As Good As It Gets' took place on September 20, 1997.
2. Which arena was the card held in?

Answer: ECW Arena

'As Good As It Gets' took place in the ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA.
3. Which tag team took on the tandem of Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten in the first match?

Answer: Little Guido and Tracey Smothers

The first match consisted of Axl Rotten and Balls Mahoney, the 'Hardcore Chair Swinging Freaks' vs. the Full Blooded Italian combo of 'the Extrme Stud' Little Guido and 'the Main Man' Tracey Smothers (with 'the Big Don' Tommy Rich). The FBI maintained the lead in the bout for a few minutes before Axl and Balls took over ending with Balls' finisher, the Nutcracker Suite, being used on Little Guido for the pin.
4. Why was the match re-started after it had finished?

Answer: Pinfall was made with the wrestler's foot on the bottom rope

After the 3 count had been made, the FBI's manager, Tommy Rich, informed referee Jeff Jones that Little Guido's foot had been on the bottom rope during the pinfall (which it had been) and told Jones to re-start the match. While Axl and Balls were celebrating their victory, Jones abruptly had the bell rung to re-start the match. Guido quickly rolled up Balls for a 3 count, this time ending the match officialy.
5. Which referee did Balls Mahoney lay out after the match had officialy ended?

Answer: Jeff Jones

Following the bout, the F.B.I. left the ring victoriously while Balls and Axl questioned Jeff Jones about re-starting the bout. Jones got on the mic and began to badmouth Axl and Balls for questioning his judgment and stated that he was the best referee in ECW. Fellow referees John Finnegan and Jim Mollineaux came to the ring to try and de-fuse the situation, but only got taunted by Jones for their effort. Finally, Finnegan and Jones got into a shoving match before Balls took a chair and whacked Jones over the head with it, much to the delight of the crowd.
6. Whom did Joey Styles interview prior to the second bout?

Answer: Jason

Before the second match was to begin, Joey Styles came to the ring and announced that he was to do an interview. To the ring came Jason, 'the World's Sexiest Man'. Joey immediately began scratching himself as Jason came near. Jason told Joey that he had an announcement to make, at which point Joey jumped to the conclusion that Jason was going to say he was leaving ECW.

He was wrong. Instead Jason announced that he had just found a new wrestler to manage. Joey asked who it was, as the wrestler made his way to the ring.
7. Who was introduced by the answer to question 6, making his ECW debut?

Answer: Justin Credible

Joey Styles: 'Who is he?', as the man entered the ring. Jason: 'He's Justin Credible.' Joey Styles: 'Yeah, he's incredible (recognizing Justin), he's been held back by the clowns in Connecticut (WWF, where Justin wrestled previously as Aldo Montoya) for years, but who is he?' Jason: 'Justin Credible.' Joey Styles: 'He's...Oh, I got it. That's his name. Justin Credible, thats his name.' Justin Credible: 'Not only is that my name, but I'm just incredible every time I step in the ring. Now get outta my face Styles!', as he shoved Joey away. Styles left the ring and headed back to the broadcast area.
8. Who does the answer of question 7 take on in the second match?

Answer: Jerry Lynn

Justin Credible, making his ECW debut took on 'Dynamic' Jerry Lynn, making his ECW debut as well. Lynn would only keep the 'Dynamic' nickname, which he used for years in the indy leagues, for a short while in ECW before dropping it. The two fought back and forth for a number of minutes before fighting out to the floor where Lynn bulldoged Justin off the barricade to the floor, and then dived from the top rope down onto Justin. Back in the ring, Justin nailed Lynn with a spinning powerbomb to regain the advantage.

They continued to do battle for a couple more minutes until Lynn set Justin up for a tombstone piledriver, which was reversed by Justin who added a spin to it to lay out Lynn. He would later name his spinning tombstone 'That's Incredible'. With Lynn just about finished, Justin added a spinning DDT in for good measure to take the 3 count in his debut appearance.
9. Who did Chris Candido face in the 3rd match?

Answer: Lance Storm

Chris Candido took on future-partner Lance Storm in the 3rd bout of the evening. After 6 mintues of back and forth action, the two fought to the floor, before Candido made it to the top rope and dove down onto Lance who was in the 1st row of the crowd. Candido then wore Lance down for a couple more minutes before Lance came back with a powerslam, handspring elbow and flying dropkick.

They then exchanged suplexes and fought back and forth until Candido caught Lance with a piledriver to take the lead. Candido finished Lance off soon thereafter with 'the Blonde Bombshell', his top rope powerbomb, for the win.

The crowd gave both men a loud ovation for their performance.
10. Who faced Bam Bam Bigelow?

Answer: Spike Dudley

Bam Bam Bigelow's opponent for the night, Spike Dudley, had embarrased Bigelow a week before 'Hardcore Heaven' 1997 by defeating him at the ECW Arena. Bigelow evened up the feud by beating Spike at 'Hardcore Heaven'. Spike wanted another shot at Bigelow and Bigelow wanted to finish off Spike and so the rubber match was held at 'As Good As It Gets'.

The crowd was in a frenzy as they wanted Bam Bam to toss Spike to them, like he had done at 'Hardcore Heaven'. Spike ran at Bigelow early but got little offense as Bigelow used a variety of power moves to keep him down.

However, after charging one too many times into the corner where Spike was, Spike moved and finally nailed Bam Bam with a series of dropkicks. He then got in a jumping DDT and a flying clothesline before dropkicking Bigelow over the top rope, where Bigelow managed to fall through an awaiting table. Spike followed out and nailed Bigelow with a chair shot before sending Bigelow into the ring. Spike went up top and nailed Bigelow with a flying chair shot, but could only get a 2 count.

A second try missed, as Bigelow quickly went to work on Spike once more. With Spike nearly done, and with the crowd yelling at Bigelow to do so, Bam Bam lifted Spike over his head and tossed him into the first row of the crowd, where the fans caught him and began to crowd-surf Spike around for a minute before Bigelow came for Spike and tossed him back in the ring. A flying headbutt later, and Bam Bam had the win to finish his feud with Spike. Bigelow then tossed Spike back to the fans, before leaving the ring.
11. Why was Rick Rude unable to attend 'As Good As It Gets'?

Answer: He was with the WWF in London

The next match scheduled was Shane Douglas vs. a mystery opponent. Shane Douglas and Francine came to the ring, but notably absent was Douglas's 'advisor' Rick Rude. Rude had been selecting Shane's opponents for him so that Douglas could take on a 'worthy' competitor each night. On this night Rude was not at the ECW Arena however. Shane Douglas told the crowd that he told them he'd win the ECW title back at 'Hardcore Heaven' 1997 and he did.

He then told the crowd that Rick Rude could not be at the arena that night because he was with the WWF over in London for their 'One Night Only' UK PPV.

However, he said, Rude had pre-selected his opponent for the night and asked Francine to tell him who is was.
12. Who did Shane Douglas defend the ECW title against?

Answer: Phil LaFon

Francine told Shane that his opponent was...Phil LaFon, returning to ECW after a stay in the WWF. LaFon, and his partner Doug Furnas, had worked for ECW for 2 months in late 1996 before departing for the WWF, debuting at 'Survivor Series' 1996.
13. What was the stipulation on the title bout?

Answer: No Disqualification match

Furnas accompanied LaFon to the ring where Douglas immediately had second thoughts about taking on LaFon and said that he'd rather take on the injured Furnas instead. After Furnas called Douglas a coward for backing down to LaFon and challenging an injured man, Douglas agreed to the bout, but added in a no DQ rule, which was agreed to by Furnas and LaFon.

The match went back and forth for a number of minutes, with Francine interfering occasionaly until the 10 minute mark when LaFon nearly had a 3 count and Furnas complained to the ref about a slow count.

This drew in Francine who jumped on LaFon's back, before getting tossed off and tiger-bombed.
14. Which two wrestlers interfered in the Title bout?

Answer: Chris Candido and Bam Bam Bigelow

With Douglas and Francine down, fellow Triple Threat member Chris Candido hit the ring and began to fight with LaFon. Despite a shoulder injury, Furnas then entered the ring and clotheslined Douglas with his good arm before teaming with LaFon to toss Candido to the floor.

The third Threat teammate, Bam Bam Bigelow then came in and fought with Furnas to the floor. Candido came back in the ring and clipped out LaFon's knee, which Douglas took quick advantage of before rolling LaFon up for a 3 count and victory at 12:15.
15. Whom did Taz assault in the parking lot before the show had started?

Answer: Lance Wright

Before the next segment could begin, Joey Styles told the audience that an incident had occured earlier in the day in the parking lot and footage was shown. Lance Wright, who had been an ECW interviewer before leaving for the WWF, had returned to ECW, but was bitter about doing so.

In his first interview back, with Taz, he insulted Taz until Taz had had enough and suplexed Lance and knocked him out. The footage showed Lance calling Taz out in the parking lot, saying he didn't have the guts to show up, which proved wrong as Taz showed up and beat up Lance once again, until ECW security could break it up.
16. Which tag team did Lance Wright bring with him to the ring?

Answer: The Pitbulls

Following the footage, Lance Wright was brought out to the ring in a wheelchair, by the Pitbulls. The Pitbulls had left ECW for a few months and returned at 'As Good As It Gets', now under the management of Lance Wright. Pitbull 1 began to talk about how the fans of ECW never appreciated the Pitbulls and that the only man who cared about their careers was Lance Wright. Lance had even gotten them meetings with the WWF, Pitbull 1 said. Pitbull added that ECW was full of 'paper champions' who were scared of the Pitbulls and, most of all, Taz was scared of the Pitbulls. Pitbull said that Taz was a coward for picking on Lance and for injuring him to the point where he had to be in a wheelchair. Pitbull 1 challenged Taz to come out and take on Pitbull 2, but said that Taz didn't have the guts to do it.
17. Who answered the challenge of Lance Wright's tag team?

Answer: Taz

Taz's music hit and Taz stormed out to the ring. After an initial staredown, Pitbull 2 went quick to the offense, leaving Taz laying momentarily with a powerbomb. Turning his back to Taz to get praise from Lance Wright, Taz quickly bounced back to his feet and awaited Pitbull 2. 2 turned around, swung and missed at Taz, who locked Pitbull 2 up and dropped him with a T-Bone suplex. Taz locked in the Tazmission on Pitbull 2 who passed out in short order. Taz released the hold and Pitbull 1 left the scene and his manager. Taz quickly made his way over to Lance and knocked over the wheelchair. Lance tried to run but Taz caught him and suplexed him through a table, leaving Lance laying for the second time that day. Security was sent in to hold Taz off, but Taz was up for a fight and began to beat up one of the security guys while others began to pull him off.
18. Who attacked the person who was the answer to the previous question while he was being held back by security?

Answer: Sabu

After prying Taz off of the security guy, Security and a number of wrestlers tried to get Taz out of the ring, when Sabu, Taz's long time nemesis, hit the ring and slapped Taz twice while he was being held. Taz broke free but Sabu jumped on top of him and got in a number of shots before Taz could get in any. Security got Taz again and dragged him to the back.
19. Why was the Sabu vs. the Sandman bout ruled a no-contest?

Answer: Neither man could continue

After clearing the ring of security, Sabu awaited his scheduled opponent for the show, the Sandman. They were booked to fight a month earlier at 'Hardcore Heaven' 1997, but Sabu and Rob Van Dam jumped him early in the show and Sandman was unable to fight Sabu later in the night.

After his usual lenghty entrace, the Sandman and Sabu began a wild brawl in the ring and at ringside. The Sandman at one point headed to the back and returned with a ladder, making the match an impromptu ladder match of sorts.

After several minutes of this, with Sabu dazed, the Sandman picked up his Singapore cane and nailed Sabu in the face with it, opening a gash and causing Sabu an eye injury. Sabu slumped into a corner. The Sandman then came in to finish Sabu off, when Sabu threw a fireball at the Sandman, which sent him to the mat in pain. Paramedics hit the scene to help the Sandman, as Sabu bled in the corner.

The match was ruled a no-contest because neither man could continue the bout. Paramedics helped the Sandman to the back, before helping Sabu out as well.
20. Who interfered in the mixed tag team match between Tommy Dreamer and Beulah vs. Rob Van Dam and Bill Alfonso?

Answer: Sabu

A mixed tag bout with Tommy Dreamer and Beulah vs. Rob Van Dam and Bill Alfonso was up next. Dreamer and Van Dam had feuded since 'WrestlePalooza' 1997, when Van Dam and Sabu had attacked Dreamer after his victory over Raven. Van Dam and Alfonso came to the ring first. Van Dam got on the mic and told the crowd that the mixed tag bout was the most ridiculous match of his entire career.

He had better things to do than have to fight a girl and Tommy Dreamer. He then badmouthed the two before Dreamer hit the ring and went to work on RVD.

After sending RVD out to the floor, Dreamer climbed to the top rope and attempted to go for a flying chair shot. He hit his mark, but wound up tearing his heel when he landed wrong. Dreamer threw Van Dam back in but his offense was slowed considerably. Dreamer went for a chair but was stopped by referee Jeff Jones, who had recovered in time to be the offical for the bout. Van Dam then inadverently hit the Van Daminator on Jones as he held the chair, knocking the ref out. Dreamer capitalized on RVD's error by DDTing him and then hitting RVD with a frog splash of his own.

However, there was no ref around, and Sabu, with a bandaged head and eye, hit the ring and quickly took Dreamer down. Sabu and RVD then made quick work of Dreamer, ending when they double team legdropped and splashed Dreamer through a table. RVD then got on the mic and told the crowd he has better things to do than finish the match and told Alfonso to finish off Beulah because he and Sabu were going to the back. They then added a few kicks to Dreamer before leaving to an ovation of boos.
21. Who scored the winning pinfall in the mixed tag match?

Answer: Beulah

With Sabu and Rob Van Dam gone and Tommy Dreamer being attended to by paramedics on the floor, Alfonso and Beulah both entered the ring for the first time in the bout. Beulah dared Alfonso to hit her, and when he turned his back to wind up for the punch, Beulah pulled out a cookie sheet from underneath her ECW shirt and Alfonso turned around and punched the cookie sheet. Beulah then smacked Alfonso in the head with the cookie sheet, opening a big cut on his face. Beulah then threw Alfonso to the floor and whipped him into the barricade a few times before returning to the ring where Alfonso took over and began to choke Beulah with the rope that held his trademark whistle around his neck.

They fought for a few mintues before Alfonso was caught on the top rope by Beulah who knocked him into position for a chair assisted baseball slide into the corner. Alfonso then tried to powerbomb Beulah, but she reversed it into a hurricanrana for the 3 count done by a second ref.

Afterwards, Dreamer limped back into the ring to celebrate with Beulah as Alfonso left the ring a bloody mess.
22. What was D-Von Dudley's announced weight for the event?

Answer: 200 lbs.

Before the Main Event could begin, the Dudley Boyz, with their entourage of manager Joel Gertner and half-brothers Sign Guy and Big Dick Dudley came to the ring. Gertner, as always, insulted the crowd and their upcoming opponents before introducing the group. D-Von was the first of the participants he introduced, saying that D-Von hailed from the Southside of Dudleyville and weighed in at 214 lbs., 3 ounces. D-Von then had words for Gertner, who told the crowd that he stood corrected. D-Von instead weighed in at an even, slim, trim and jacked, 200 lbs. Joey Styles, on commentary, laughed out loud at that statement.
23. What street in Dudleyville was Buh Buh Ray Dudley announced as hailing from?

Answer: 1000 South Industrial Blvd.

Moving on to Buh Buh Ray, Gertner announced that Buh Buh weighed in at 315 lbs. and hailed from 1000 South Industrial Blvd. in the South Park district of Dudleyville.
24. Which of the following statements was also said by Joel Gertner about Buh Buh Ray Dudley?

Answer: He's Dudleyville's Most Eligible Bachelor

Gertner than added that Buh Buh was Dudleyville's Most Eligible Bachelor before announcing his name. He then threw in a final insult about their opponents and told them to come out but that they wouldn't be winning the Tag belts from the Dudleyz.
25. Whom did the Dudley Boyz defend their ECW Tag titles against in the Main Event?

Answer: New Jack and John Kronus

The Dudley Boyz opponents, New Jack and John Kronus, formerly of the Gangstas and the Eliminators respectively, came to the ring caring trash cans with weapons. New Jack and Kronus went to town on the Dudleyz with a variety of objects. New Jack and D-Von brawled to the floor as Buh Buh took the lead on Kronus.

After a short while on the floor, New Jack placed D-Von on a table and climbed to one of the balconies in the ECW Arena and dived off, smashing D-Von and himself through the table and to the arena floor. Shortly thereafter, New Jack came to and saved Kronus from pinfall in the ring.

A few minutes later D-Von re-joined in, but got knocked down once more. Big Dick Dudley tried to interfere, but got knocked out from a guitar shot from New Jack. With all 3 Dudleyz down, Kronus climbed to the top rope and nailed D-Von with a 450 splash for the win and the Tag titles to close 'As Good As It Gets' 1997.
