David Benioff was born in New York and held several jobs, including bouncer and English teacher, before traveling to Dublin to study Irish Literature. That's where he met D.B. Weiss, a Chicago native also studying at Trinity College. They both went on to write for Hollywood, together and separately, before presenting their pitch to Martin to develop his stories into a show.
